Scheduled Chat Sessions

We will be having a Kechara Chat Time this Wednesday July 23rd 10-11pm (GMT+8) with the title The 8 Worldly Dharmas. Please come and join in the chat for a fun time and support. Thanks all see you all there.

Blog Chat Etiquette

These are some simple guidelines to make the blog chat room a positive, enjoyable and enlightening experience for everyone. Please note that as this is a chat room, we chat! Do not flood the chat room, or post without interacting with others.

Be friendly

Remember that these are real people you are chatting with. They may have different opinions to you and come from different cultures. Treat them as you would face to face, and respect their opinions, and they will treat you the same.

Be Patient

Give the room a chance to answer you. Patience is a virtue. And if after awhile, people don't respond, perhaps they don't know the answer or they did not see your question. Do ask again or address someone directly. Do not be offended if people do not or are unable to respond to you.

Be Relevant

This is the blog of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche. Please respect this space. We request that all participants here are respectful of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and his organisation, Kechara.

Be polite

Avoid the use of language or attitudes which may be offensive to others. If someone is disrespectful to you, ignore them instead of arguing with them.

Please be advised that anyone who contravenes these guidelines may be banned from the chatroom. Banning is at the complete discretion of the administrator of this blog. Should anyone wish to make an appeal or complaint about the behaviour of someone in the chatroom, please copy paste the relevant chat in an email to us at care@kechara.com and state the date and time of the respective conversation.

Please let this be a conducive space for discussions, both light and profound.

When I do my ‘duty’ and teach dharma to people and the illusions of samsara, they find it hard to let go. I am accused of not letting them live their lives and have fun. They insist they cannot, will not or not ready to let go. When I don’t teach dharma, they say I am not doing my duty and they are waiting to hear the dharma. When I try to train their mind, they say I have no right to interfere in their lives and it’s too hard. When I point out what is being done wrong according to dharma, they say I am judgmental. When I mention the effects of their actions on others and their future, they say I am condemning them and I am laying a guilt trip. When I remind them of their practice they avoid me and say they have no freedom. When I push more out of great concern for them to learn dharma, apply what they have learned and transform for the better, they run, escape and curse me. They form hate groups and criticize me on social media and try to influence other students away saying I am some sort of tyrant..Please continue reading here: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=51965

If we find excuses to not pursue our spiritual works and practice in favour of ‘fun’, romping in samsara and hoping for a good end, we are highly misled by our delusions. Tsem Rinpoche

From the moment of birth may I never
Be lured by the pleasures of existence,
But, guided by renunciation intent on freedom,
Be resolute in seeking the pure life.
May there be no hindrance to becoming a monk,
    From friends, family or possessions,
    And for every conducive circumstance,
By mere thought may it appear.
Once a monk, may I be untainted as long as I live,
By breech of vow or natural fault,
As promised in the presence of my preceptor.

Gift Team from Tsem Ladrang is now doing our very first Tsongkhapa Retreat as a team. We have set up a very beautiful altar and requested some teachings from Pastor JJ. Pastor JJ gave us a very clear explanation on the purpose of doing the retreat and the do’s and dont’s. Everyone should engage in Tsongkhapa Retreat at least once a year.

    Druchuma:
Kalarupa, a wrathful emanation of Wisdom Buddha Manjushri, is a universal protector for all Vajrayana Buddhist lineages and is the traditional Protector for the small Lamrim scope.

Literally meaning “64 Offerings”, this puja calls upon the fierce energies of Kalarupa for protection and smooth flowing in one’s life journey, both secular and spiritual. This puja is one of the few that are regularly done for protection and smoothness for spiritual practice in general.

Dukkar puja: The highly powerful female Buddha Dukkar manifested from the crown of Buddha Shakyamuni, as a personification of Buddha’s victory umbrella, and is commonly regarded as the female counterpart to Avalokiteshvara (Kuan Yin), the Buddha of Compassion.

    http://www.kechara.com/kechara-house/pujas/dukkar-puja/

The protective and all-encompassing energies of Dukkar are harnessed in this puja to eliminate harmful energies and paranormal disturbances. Particularly effective for legal problems and the unfairly accused, this puja also brings better health if done regularly.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

I agree with what Martin T. Bosnev says about Pastor David. Martin is a very intelligent person, so when he compliments, he has thought it through. I appreciate Martin's input. Pastor David always teaches Dharma from his heart and with enthusiasm. He truly believes in what he shares. He has been blessed by Tsongkapa to speak because he is sincere. Many enjoy listening to the Dharma from him very much. Please see what Martin is talking about: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=4197

When on the hospital bed nearing our last breath, nothing matters except for the practice and transformation we have done in dharma in our lifetime. Our money, wishes, houses, clothes, jewelry, reputation, spouses, desires, dreams, greed, anger, possessions, explanations will be of no use at all. It will in fact even be a hindrance scratching at our mind's energy to let go and we cannot. Since they are no use at that momentous event, we should continue that thought now and understand what we should truly cultivate now. This thought must translate into action not just scholastic thoughts and meanderings of the mind for self deception or imitation spiritual satisfaction. This is what I think daily and everyday as part of my meditations on death and impermanence according to first chapter of Lam Rim. Tsem Rinpoche

I totally agree with this. Some vent out their anger, get attention or want to send messages to people and justify by saying it's their space their posting on and they can post what they want. Be it so, your space is seen my hundreds and it's public domain and you know that. So if others post otherwise to your views, why get upset? You invited it. Maybe that is what you wanted? Attention? It's really hard to educate a generation of people born in conditions where they take things for granted. A simple slogan campaign that says, "Save water, It's precious" isn't sticky enough to make inroads. That's exactly where this video steps in: to make people realize how precious water actually is. A brilliant video that follows the heartbreaking story of a young girl that cannot cry. Sounds like fiction? Sadly, it is not.

Dear everyone, All sentient beings deserve to live, be happy and not hurt, including animals. We should never hurt them or eat them. Look how much this chicken welcomes a hug and love. Observe carefully. Don't eat beings who can feel pain because the karma comes back. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear friends, See this incredible video. This chimp was found in captivity for many years. Dr Jane Goodall released him into the wild. Look how he comes back to thank her with deep apprecition. It's amazing. Animals have such strong feelings of pain and happiness just like us. We should never hurt them and share with others to not hurt them. Tsem Rinpoche http://www.tsemrinpoche.com

Now he is with us and assimilating in his cage within the aviary for a few weeks then released into aviary. Look at how much he wants attention from the other birds. Cute. Tsem Rinpoche

Very touching video...Buddha said it was very important to visit the four holy places associated with Him before our deaths. Remembering this, I had instructed Paul to take this senior group to Bodhgaya and make sure they are able to plant imprints. When this life of 'fun', money, parties and socials are over, we cannot leave empty handed. Tsem Rinpoche

Aki is the old African Grey that was abandoned by his owner. Because he is old, no one wanted him. Well we wanted him and we took him and in and love him. He is in a big aviary and he likes his cage. We leave his cage open at all times so he can go in and out as he likes. His cage is his security blanket. Cute. He gets nice food and sunshine daily and also we play monks chanting for him to be blessed. We love you Aki. Tsem Rinpoche

This little birdie was at a pet shop. He has maimed leg, permanent damage to his wing and cannot fly and also one eye blind. I don't think anyone would want the poor thing, so I adopted him and keep him safe, fed and with lots of fresh air. He's also in a large aviary so he can be with other birds and not be alone. He is alert, active, and has a good appetite. I like him very much and will make sure he is safe, happy and has a good life. I name him Lucky. Lucky will always be safe now. Tsem Rinpoche

~Question asked by Andrew James Boon~ When, if ever, do we draw the line between letting go of our attachments and having enough to 'sustain' a so called human existence? Perhaps this in itself is THE ultimate attachment? If we create the karma for the causes of the consequences and delusions we face, how do we then realize and stop our mind from such a deluded existence? Am I truly deluded and thus I cannot see the delusion or do I merely think I am and thus believe I am? René Descartes did say: I think therefore I am! I wonder! ~Response by tsemtulku~ Dear Andrew, once we get into a situation like a tiger who has to kill, it is hard to get out at that rebirth. Hence it is important to grasp the moment and go ALL THE WAY WITH DHARMA and take our attachments/delusions with us. As we progress, they will drop along the way naturally. http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/questions/page/26 From: June Tang (Khjb)

~Question asked by Martin Chow~ Dear Rinpoche, What are the preparations for one with a wish to serve as a lay monk? Is there a particular mantra or exercise that could help one gain the attainment to train as a lay monk? ~Response by tsemtulku~ One can do the 5 preliminary practices of a minimum 100,000 each. Hold one’s refuge vows as perfectly as possible. Good luck. http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/questions/page/26 From: June Tang (Khjb)

~Response by tsemtulku~ We move ahead a few steps, then we go back a few steps…we find it hard to battle the ‘inner demons’ within ourselves fighting all the time…we find the secret struggles never end…it almost seems futile… we find transformation so difficult. Does it get any easier? It doesn’t get easier. The battle never stops. It gets worse and the struggles will bring us down. THAT IS GOOD. If there was no battle, then we know we are on the wrong path. The battle is actually our own efforts….efforts long overdue and weak at this point. Sometimes we fall because most of the time we were down, and now we are starting to get up, as we get up we fall. The fact that we fall, means we are getting up again and again. Remember Buddha under the Bodhi Tree in the last watch of the night, the maras attacked Him full force…even one so close to Buddhahood was attacked…so imagine for us? Never give up..because there is nothing to give up for….Tsem Rinpoche http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/questio

~Question asked by Shirley Maya Tan~ Dear Rinpoche, As I understand transformation is an on-going process. Sometimes we seem to be making progress of leaps and bounds. But at other times, we seem to fall a few paces backwards. How do we minimize this unstable phases? I find that with every phase of trying to break through another level, there is much 'chaos' going inside. Sometimes it seems like the battle never ends and it gets harder. Is this a good or bad sign? From: June Tang (Khjb)
