Blog Chat Etiquette

These are some simple guidelines to make the blog chat room a positive, enjoyable and enlightening experience for everyone. Please note that as this is a chat room, we chat! Do not flood the chat room, or post without interacting with others.

Be friendly

Remember that these are real people you are chatting with. They may have different opinions to you and come from different cultures. Treat them as you would face to face, and respect their opinions, and they will treat you the same.

Be Patient

Give the room a chance to answer you. Patience is a virtue. And if after awhile, people don't respond, perhaps they don't know the answer or they did not see your question. Do ask again or address someone directly. Do not be offended if people do not or are unable to respond to you.

Be Relevant

This is the blog of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche. Please respect this space. We request that all participants here are respectful of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and his organisation, Kechara.

Be polite

Avoid the use of language or attitudes which may be offensive to others. If someone is disrespectful to you, ignore them instead of arguing with them.

Please be advised that anyone who contravenes these guidelines may be banned from the chatroom. Banning is at the complete discretion of the administrator of this blog. Should anyone wish to make an appeal or complaint about the behaviour of someone in the chatroom, please copy paste the relevant chat in an email to us at care@kechara.com and state the date and time of the respective conversation.

Please let this be a conducive space for discussions, both light and profound.

Let say the person that helped you practiced Shugden. Just because of that would you cut all communications with that person and all friendship? Why or why not? If you cut friendship and ties with someone just because of a religious belief, who is perhaps at fault? The person who does their religious belief freely or the person who cuts off? Why?

If someone has benefitted you very much, would it matter what practice they do? I mean wouldn’t you be appreciative of the help they have given you and be forever their friends or be loyal to them or you would just jump ship?

Protectors are not our main point of worship. Protectors function is not as important as the Buddhas. If we wish to have a altar, in the centre should be our Guru, Buddha or Tsongkapa. Then on the left and right are any Buddhas. Then besides that is the Protectors. We must focus on Lord Tsongkapa for our practice daily or Manjushri, and last practice we do is protector. More important than that is the practice of Lam Rim and Lojong teachings.

: Some people say if they are practicing Shugden we should cut all ties with them, not eat with them, not talk with them and not associate with them even if they are family. Since they practice Shugden they are defiled and dirty so we must remain clean and pure by not associating with them? Does associating with so and so because of their religious beliefs defile us or we can be friends with everyone and see them for who they are and not their religion? Does that sound right to you all? Because in Buddhism we are to be kind to everyone and all beings. Why would you look at that one aspect of that person and nothing else. Why is it that just because they practice Shugden, we cannot be kind or nice to them or be friendly. Why do we have to cut all ties? Is that religious tolerance, acceptance and compassion or segregation of some sorts? What kind of compassion and love do we practice? I am just wondering what is the opinion out there. Tsem Rinpoche

Abinav Thakuri: Dear Rinpoche, I wanted to post here to thank you for all of your teachings! They have helped me tremendously! :) I have been learning from the blog and video teachings for some time now and the lessons have changed my life. Especially, death meditation. I have been following your teaching on death meditation and have been doing it for more than 8 months now. I didn’t feel anything at first, but now I feel like i can accept negative things that happen in life in a totally positive way! I also want to do any good I can now! Instead of just waiting. I used to be lazy and had negative thoughts about life all the time before. But now it’s gone! :) I also feel that death meditation can be a good counter to depression. Thank you so much Rinpoche! :)

I use think people have to be this way or that way and according to my views, but I realize, they have to be their way and we accept them. Sometimes they can improve the way they think and operate as we all need to ‘upgrade’, but the way to do it is by example, patience and explaining kindly. Tsem Rinpoche

    Dear master rinpoche

Firstly i would like to express my gratitude to you for your existence and sharing of knowledge to those like us. I have yet physically there to listen to your dharma only via youtube.

I have first come to know about you 2 years ago by recommendation of a friend to your youtube vid. Your humour and examples using the model of the current society explains the teaching which easily understandable by us.

Today I have watched your 3 hrs youtube video on tendencies and I have this unexplained feeling that urge me to write to you. I been wanting to write to you ever since I know about you but I do not have the courage or reason to write since I always feel helpless and all sort of depressive thoughts flooding through my mind and I don’t know what others will response to my disability. I learned about your kechara and shop in the mall and I have always wanted to go and take a look and seek guidance but I always hold back. There is one time I pass by your shop in Sunway pyramid mall but too afraid to go in. I wandered outside for very long time and at the end I left.

I have always wanted to throw away everything and find myself such as going for a retreat and learn dharma but there are always things that pulled me back like parents objection, fear and criticism.

I battled depression for the past ten years and I never know the reason why. I seek therapy and medication but none seems to work and I can only find peace in the mantra and I want to know more abt buddha teaching. Nothing else seems ‘right’ to me except to know more about living. My mom always wanted me to find someone to get married and have kids. But deep inside me I know there are something else which I can hardly explain.

I had to remove a tumour from my body, battling depression, infected with dengue and getting sick all the time. All these seems like a sign for me to do something about my life.

I made a decision to leave my stable job in singapore to come back to malaysia to start my life.

Please master rinpoche I need your assistance and guidance to pull me out from the darkness that I been through.
Please enlighten me what should I do?

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche said to me a few years back that in order to practice or teach dharma these days, it's like being a white crow among the black. That means we will stand out and look unusual. But no matter what we must persevere. I miss this great teacher so much since his passing. He was gentle, scholarly, erudite, accomplished in sutra and tantra and had a very loving demeanor. He treated everyone equally and his vows of a monk were spotless. He was like a bright sun in the night sky. Even the first time I met him, he impacted me very strongly. I have received many teachings from him. He was a student of H.H. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and H. H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. I brought 60 students with me from various countries to have audience with Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche the last time I had a chance to gaze upon his golden face. His perfect incarnation has returned. May he manifest in this incarnation as the previous. Tsem Rinpoche

The Girl Who Couldn't Cry - Water is Life
It's really hard to educate a generation of people born in conditions where they take things for granted. A simple slogan campaign that says, "Save water, It's precious" isn't sticky enough to make inroads. That's exactly where this video steps in: to make people realize how precious water actually is. A brilliant video that follows the heartbreaking story of a young girl that cannot cry. Sounds like fiction? Sadly, it is not.
