Dear students and friends,

Many may know one of my students, Wai Meng, from his online interactions. Wai Meng is a long time student of mine, and he has a strong passion towards environmental conservation… In 2010, he started an initiative within the Kechara organzation called the Kechara Earth Project (KEP).

Recently, I received news from Wai Meng that KEP made contact with ‘Clean the World‘, a non-profit organization based in Florida. Clean the World recycles soap and shampoo products discarded by the hotel industry, and redistributes them to those in need. This way they improve the quality of life of the destitute through hygiene, as well as help the environment by reusing items that would have ended up in landfills around the world.

Clean the World kindly donated 27,000 bars of recycled soap to KEP for it to be distributed to the under privileged around Malaysia.

I’m glad that KEP has arranged to receive these soaps from Clean The World, as the benefits is two folds: it saves the environment, and saves lives through improved hygiene. Hygiene is a very necessary component for keeping illness and diseases at bay. I’m sharing a message sent to me by Wai Meng below, informing me about the soaps that he has received and how it will be re-distributed to the under-privileged, old folks, orphanages, natives and disabled people around Malaysia.

It is wonderful to see the many NGOs and activists receiving these soaps to be distributed to the people they service. I hope to see more initiatives such as this, as it brings great joy to me to see many people benefiting from KEP’s dedicated efforts.

A Message From Wai Meng, founder of Kechara Earth Project (KEP)

 27,000 Recycled Soaps!

Dear Rinpoche,

Good evening, hope this finds you well. I have recently imported 27,000 bars of recycled soap from Hong Kong from this organisation called ‘Clean the World’.

‘Clean the World’ started in the USA and then started a branch in Hong Kong, what they do is they collect soap from the hotels and they recycle them into new soaps and they donate it to homeless, third world countries, poor etc etc. I have heard that Hilton Singapore they work with DHL and send all their partially used soaps to Hong Kong as part of their Community Service Responsibility.

‘Clean the World’ (CTW) is a social enterprise, that the social part of their work is to provide soap for people to keep their hygiene and hence their health, it is an enterprise as their work gets a monetary support from the corporates. So they get grants and funds to carry on their work mainly from Hotels whom they partner with, as they know what CTW is doing.

Clean the World is the world’s largest organization recycling hotel soap. They partners with the hospitality industry to recycle and redistribute soap world wide to prevent unnecessary deaths from hygiene related diseases. They are doing good to save the world and for furture generation.Wonderful idea.

We rejoice to Clean the World because of their generosity to use their resources to make this recycle soaps and subsequently donated to the NGO and activists through Kechara Earth Project. This recycling project should be continued so that there will be no waste soup and at the same time it help many unfortunate groups to improve their cleanliness and hygiene.

The effort from Kechara Earth Project, sponsors and volunteers are also highly appreciated. Because without them, the NGO and activists from Malaysia may not able to enjoy this benefit.

  3. Lin Mun on Oct 2, 2016 at 5:44 pm

Thanks for sharing Wai Meng. Glad to know that big corporation like Hilton hotel and DHL are working together with Clean The World in reproducing the recycle soap.

We should not bring more wastage that will eventually harm the environment. Hopefully this action will bring more awareness to more people and corporate world to participate in this good act.

  4. Edward Ooi on Apr 27, 2015 at 1:19 am

What an awesome way to recycle soap. Not a lot of people would thought of it but we actually waste a lot of soap especially when we are at the hotels. Why? Because normally we would only use them partially or try to use all of them during that short period of time. Why do I say that it is a waste it’s because there are a lot of people around the world who are poor, homeless and most of them can’t even afford to buy toiletries. Some people even recycle the tip of the soda can to make prosthetic legs for the ones in need. I think pretty much every on earth is recyclable, it is only up to us whether we want to or not. So start recycling and make the earth a better place!!!

  5. Phng Keng Hwa on Mar 12, 2015 at 11:09 pm

So good to see that there are people benefiting from this! 😀 May people around the world continue to donate for the betterment of others. 🙂 many thanks and congrats to everyone that was part of this project. _/|\_

Gosh that first picture clearly summarises where all our trash ends up! Unfortunately it’s ending up as a hazard to our environment. Plastic is not biodegradable and it ends up in our lakes and oceans being awkward and harming aquatic life too. There’s something called microbeads which can be found in exfoliating products / cleansers which are like plastic pellets. Since when did plastic start become a cleaning agent!? There is this great blog called trashisfortossers.com where this woman and many others in the world are following a zero waste lifestyle. This lady has cut out all unnecessary waste like plastic and over the last two years she has produced trash which can fit in a maison jar – there’s still a bit of space left!! Totally hipster lifestyle i know but if it saves damage to the planet then why not? Well done on this though Wai Meng and team.

  7. Low KHJB on Mar 1, 2015 at 1:55 am

Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing.Wai Meng commitment towards environmental preservation and helping the needy should be applauded.
To many a simple bar of soap is a simple thing to acquire. For some,a simple bar of soap could be deemed as a luxury item.
For Wai Meng and his team to make it available to those in need at those far to reach places are truly remarkable.
May Wai Meng activities succeed in planting a positive seed in the society mind in order to gain public awareness and react in a positive manner to save mother earth. At the same time built a caring society.
Keep it up Wai Meng and your team….

This “Clean the World” truly does clean the world. It is amazing how far people are willing to go to help others. It is lovely to hear that all this soap is recycled and going to help people. Many people will be benefitted from this project. I am really happy for Wai Meng as he is able and does carry out so many selfless activities.

I think that this idea is a really effective means of helping others as it doesn’t only help people get cleaner and less susceptible to disease, it also helps planet Earth as there isn’t a whole load of soapy waste being dumped in the ocean.

  9. Cynthia Lee on Feb 26, 2015 at 1:05 am

Thank you Wai Meng and team for the wondrous effort and initiative. I can now rest in peace knowing that unused/leftover soaps can be recycled and distributed to those who can’t even afford basic necessities. We humans takes things for granted while the trash in the world is piling up and a single waste takes decades to decompose.

  10. Edward Ooi on Feb 25, 2015 at 11:48 pm

After reading this article, I now wonder what actually happen to all the bar soaps and bottle shampoos that the customer doesn’t finished using them? It is a very very smart thing to do, recycle the bar soaps and shampoos can save money, lessen the soap bars and shampoos that are supposed to be thrown away, it is very hygienic and we can put it into a good cost. There are a lots people suffering because they have no money to buy anything that they really need, and just water is not enough to clean your body properly. We need soaps and shampoos to kill the germs that we have on our body, and because some people don’t have enough money to buy these things, they ended up having rashes and disease on their body. I believe that these 27,000 bar soaps and shampoos are able to help the poor people who are in need.

Oh wooooooooow. What unexpected, pleasant, happy news to hear! Wai Meng, I’m completely and utterly stunned by this, and the creativity of the help you can provide. Amazing job!!!

    • Wan Wai Meng on Feb 25, 2015 at 9:41 pm

What I thought was so clever by you PJA, was that you came up with the idea of distributing masks during the haze and got young people and Rinpoche involved. So I have been looking for a clever idea ever since, anyways I’m happy this action reached the ‘crever’ stage. I never forgot that and aspired to be as clever as PJA 🙂 . Anyhow I do hope i can bring in 90,000 bars of recycled soap next round to distribute, this time no sponsor for shipping from HK.

Anyways if u can think of something else to do in tandem with the distribution of recycled soaps let me know you always have very good ideas, would always be good to let Malaysians know that Kecharians do care a lot about other Malaysians :).

  13. Judy Chen on Feb 25, 2015 at 6:00 am

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful news on the blog. Rejoice and thank you for brother Wai Meng and his team for successfully coordinating and distributing the 27000 recycled soaps to many less fortunate people who needs more help in order to keep themselves hygienic. Through this meritorious activity, the unfinished soaps can be recycled to save the environment from getting unnecessary pollution. This is another good cause to save the environment besides carrying out the conventional way of recycling activities.

It is such fabulous news for the under privileged people in Malaysia. Just over the years we’ve lost an incredible variety of species, like these amazing creatures
animals that have recently become extinct. I have not seen all these animals before till I read this article. Some of them looks odd in features. Animal extinctions may be caused by natural occurrences such as climatic heating or cooling or changes in sea levels. In more modern times, however, human activity has been to blame. The main cause of modern extinctions could also be like clearing forest , expanding of farming land and so forth.
The authority concerned must do some thing before the situation getting worse. In no time there will be any of these animals left and seen.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing and to create awareness of protecting life and the living environment of those extinct animals.

Wonderful and powerful quotes for us to ponder ,to choose to be a vegetarian.Wow….what a huge difference between those vegetarian childhood having IQ of 109.1, and meat eaters childhood having IQ of 100.9. It show that those people on vegetarian are smarter then.
Being a vegetarian makes it easier for us to increase our loving kindness and compassion. Do it for the animals. Do it for the environment, and do it for our health.

Wow …..there is such a city in India ,which was a eye opening for me. This Indian city Palitana becomes world’s first vegetarian city . This city a major pilgrimage centre for Jains religion and is known for being the largest cluster of Jain temples. They have take an approached to protect all sentient beings to go on vegetarian lifestyle. More or less a vegan as no eggs. The government has even made illegal of the buying and selling of meat, fish and eggs, and also related jobs or work, such as fishing. And has declared Palitana a meat-free zone prohibiting animal slaughter within the town’s limits.
Jainism is one of the oldest religions in the world and preaches a path of non-violence towards all living beings. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.

Choose to go on vegetarian ,it’s a healthy and worthy way to live.Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try . I have always been health conscious, I saw sick people with medical problems my whole life and naturally wanted to avoid going down the same path. I try my best to go meatless and have more vege since then. The simple act of becoming a vegetarian will make a difference in the health of our planet. By eating meat we share the responsibility of climate change, the destruction of our forests, and the poisoning of our air and water. We can save many lives by going on vegetarian. Through reasearher has found that those on vegetarian had a better complexion, healthy, better digestive system and many more benefits to our body in long term.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a informative article , to create awareness so as more and more people will be on vegetarian or at least meatless.

It’s a holocaust ….killing millions of dogs. Such a horrible scene looking at the pictures of those dead bodies of our dear friend. Could not have imagine there is a death squad roaming in the streets of Baghdad, hunting for dogs either shooting them or poisoned them. To those team culling stray dogs was a nightly routine for them as they expect to get the number down. The huge number of dogs in the capital that has cause a nuisance ,health problems and unhealthy environment .
They are in an attempt to wipe out the estimated one million stray dogs that roam the capital. That’s the reason given but really feeling sad for the lives of stray dogs in war-ravaged Baghdad. Hope the authority concerned can do some thing to help those strayed dogs instead killing them. May those killed had a good rebirth.

Bigger sea animals are not as powerful as what we predict after all. Could you imagined a octopus eats a shark. Well it happens. Never underestimate smaller animals or something small. They are more powerful and fierce too. Amazing …seeing how , the octopus attacked and killed the shark just a moment. So powerful. If I did not watched this video ,i never had thought that octopus could actually eat a shark.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing . Anything is possible if we think positive and think what we can do it.

So touching….Sasha Pejčić..such a kind soul helping all those dogs who is man best friend. Sasha has witnessed so much suffering of the streets dogs and it has affected him deeply. It seems that the dog catchers has been killing the streets dogs to be taken off .Its to much for Sasha and he decided to helped those abandoned dogs.
For the past 5 years he has recused many doggies and started a sheltered home for them. Most of the dogs have been found and helped from the streets . Some of them are injured and he was so kind to nurse them back . Jovana Ivastanin the reporter described the animal shelter as breathtaking. Amazing the dogs all followed Sasha around and their interaction with each other. This sheltered Home for the 400 rescued dogs are running out of funds to feed them. May Sasha be helped by people to continue sheltering those dogs. May more people donates to this harmony fund to the homeless dogs.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this .

This is always interesting to read about the holy places for pilgrimage. What attracted me the most in Wu Tai Shan is the Five Peaks. In record, these five main peaks, located in the four cardinal directions and at the central point of the mountain represent the five wisdoms of Manjushri, includes Wanghai Feng, Jinxiu Feng, Guayue Feng, Yedou Feng and Cuiyan Feng. The Five Peaks are very beautiful and I personally think it would be nice if can do contemplation and meditation on these holy and highest places in Wu Tai Shan.

Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Adeline shared this detailed information about the places must visit in Wu Tai Shan.

By practicing the religion of my choice I had to learn to accept to be hated, not to be loved, to be the butt of jokes on social media, to be alienated from friends, attacked, threats, to be avoided, called names, to have people go away whom I’ve known for years, accused of things I didn’t do, judged, expelled, ostracized, segregated and to have pure hate directed at me. This is just because I practice a religion not endorsed by the Tibetan leadership. The irony is the Tibetan leadership always calls for unity of mankind, interfaith gatherings, compassion and tolerance. So much hatred directed at me from people I don’t even know just because of my choice of religion. I’ve never hurt anyone because of my religion and I never will but I must continue my practice of my religion. It is right for me and many others. It is my reason to continue, because it’s right for me. No one should say any religion is bad because that creates segregation and isolation and hatred. If we allow that, then people can extend that discrimination and find excuses to say your color, race, background, culture, gender, sexual orientation and so on are not right. Discrimination is bad in any form. Don’t be a part of it. It is impossible for everyone to be all the same. Allow diversity for the sake of peace, understanding and happiness. When we allow this discrimination, it opens the doors to so much more variety of discrimination. We cannot allow more discrimination but we must find commonality and unity as human beings.~Tsem Rinpoche

Shocking to read so called civilised society allow cruelty towards animals based on a folklore that has no scientific, no medical nor logical foundation. I hope the villagers who reinitiated this cruelty will face the music of the law. Thank you for this sharing.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

A gorgeous Dorje Shugden painted in traditional art style of China. Chinese art has flourished for over 5,000 years and highly sought after. This form of Dorje Shugden is sitting on a seat as you see painted in his chapel (Trode Khangsar) in Lhasa, Tibet. Dorje Shugden can be on a seat or Lion. Dear friends, The Dorje Shugden oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery was authorized and blessed by both Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. He was a favorite among high lamas for his smooth trances and clear prophecies. This video is a one-of-a-kind where you see the Choyang Dulzin Kuten oracle take trance of the peaceful form of Dorje Shugden wearing the robes of a high lama giving teachings, blessings and transmissions. Very sacred and rare video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pawS1TMOe8k

The Huffington Post extensively covers the Dorje Shugden issue. I had no idea that this article was being written. I was not contacted, not asked for an interview or asked for any comments, and then it was published and my students alerted me to it. So it was a very, very pleasant and encouraging surprise to read such balanced coverage from such a reputable news website. You can read it here: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=149806

Recently Beng Kooi and Martin on behalf of myself and Kechara was lucky to have audience with His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He lives in around Paris, France. His Holiness is 91 years old and very healthy and alert. He was the 101st throne holder for Tsongkapa and was the head of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism and was very successful during his tenure. He is a strong practitioner of both Sutra and Tantra of Je Tsongkapa\'s tradition and a master of all Buddhist knowledge. He holds steadfast to his protector Dorje Shugden very strongly. So we can see even the highest throneholders who are masters of Sutra and Tantra also practices Dorje Shugden knowing the benefits.

Beng Kooi and Martin brought photo albums of Kechara Forest Retreat/Kechara and updates on Kechara and our works. His Holiness was very pleased to listen and offered some gifts back.

This is a beautiful picture and the great blessings bestowed on us from His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal.

I always like my rooms to smell clean, fresh, woodsy and a bit like the forest. my favorite types of essential oils to burn daily or as an offering to the Buddhas are Juniper, Cypress, Black Spruce, Peppermint and sometimes Rosemary. I like the smell of the forest, woods and wooded areas very much. I\'ve been using essential oils in my rooms for years. I don\'t necessarily purchase the brand you see in the picture as I buy any brand as long as it\'s made naturally. Tsem Rinpoche

In the bitter coldness of Yachen Gar, Tibet, several nuns are practicing meditation. You can see many small single \'huts\' in the background. They do this yearly and throughout the year. It is very inspiring to see people practice even under extreme conditions because they realize how samsara is so full of deceptions. Praise to the Dharma that liberates us with truth and practice. The King of Nagas knows this great being Siddhartha will soon become the Buddha. By offering his own body as shelter to the Buddha to be, he honours the state of enlightenment which will be won and gains merit for himself for his future lives although he is a naga now. The pre-eminent Buddha is an object of perfect offering gaining great merits for all beings. Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

    Norma Jean
These are the heartbreaking scenes we see over and over again, that we share in the hopes of telling the stories of those who otherwise would have suffered and vanished from this earth without a trace. This is Norma Jean. Free for a little over five months, she knew more happiness than millions of her sisters ever will. But she couldn’t escape the fate genetically programmed into her as an egg producing machine. She seemed more lethargic than usual this morning, so we brought her inside to administer fluids and antibiotics in the hopes of pulling her through until we could get her in to see our vet. She couldn’t hang on. She died this evening shortly after this video was taken, severely infected from the rotting egg yolk adhered to various organs throughout her abdominal cavity. Like virtually every single one of her sisters, caged or free range, rescued or not, she paid the ultimate price for eggs (from FB)
