Shadow People

SP-01

Dear friends,

Have you heard of the ‘Shadow People’? I frequently hear friends share their personal experiences about spirit disturbances and one of the dark beings they will talk about is known as the Shadow People.

It is fascinating to hear these stories because from these paranormal stories, we learn that beings like that do exist and there are other forms of life besides ours. The afterlife is not just a fairy tale made up by people but it is in fact a reality. Being a Buddhist, we learn that everything that we do creates karma, which in turn determines what happens to us in the future, be it in this lifetime or future lifetimes.

I would like to thank Martin, Beatrix and Pastor Jean Ai for helping me in this article.

Best regards,
Vinnie Tan

SP-02

The presence of Shadow People may be seen or even felt. Commonly we hear how the Shadow People can be like a peripheral vision – we know it’s there but we cannot make it out clearly (usually something see from the corner of our eyes), or it can be like having a strong feeling that something or someone is watching you. It can also be like a shadow that appears vaguely and then disappears quickly from your vision. The first records of Shadow People were by the indigenous people in around 1153 BC. Today, we hear reports sightings of Shadow People all over the world, and the way they are described concurs across cultures and borders. It shows that these Shadow People are not bound to a specific place, society, country and ethnicity.

Who or what are Shadow People?

The Shadow People are believed to be neither human nor animal in nature. Their form can differ and vary in size and features. However, they are generally black or dark figures that do not have any specific definition so it is difficult to make out what they truly look like except to say they are best described as shadows, hence the name Shadow People.

The most common description of the Shadow People by people who have seen them is that they are like dark silhouettes that do not have distinctive features. What is common is that some of them appear to be wearing a hat or a coat and at other times, they are described as having yellow or red eyes. It is because of these red or yellow eyes that rumours began that the Shadow People are a form of demon. Yet nothing else apart from the colour of the eyes would indicate that they might be demonic.

SP-03

The Shadow People like to cause fear and anxiety which they then feed on, resulting in victims feeling tremendous dread. Like all beings, they can be harmless or they can harbour negative intentions. Therefore when we attempt to make contact with Shadow People without knowing their true nature, we may incur more harm than good in the long run. When harmful things like that happen, it is difficult for us to protect ourselves except to seek for spiritual intervention through the protective prayers and practices of powerful protective deities like Dorje Shugden, Sengdongma or Dukkar.

There are a few theories of who or what these Shadow People really are. For a start, people who are skeptics and do not believe in the paranormal will say that these beings are a part of our imagination. Others say that these spirits are the souls of dead people who are unaware of their death and are still living their lives as though they were alive. Some say that these are astral bodies of the living, astral-travelling while they are asleep. However, the theory that I personally think is the most plausible is that Shadow People are the mind or consciousness of the dead trying to communicate with the living for something. As these are afterlife beings, they can also be demonic entities that have made their way to us for more sinister reasons.

Shadow People are often thought to be male in appearance, although there are accounts that have described them in the form of a woman, child or an animal. These beings move quickly and they are able to disappear into walls, walk through doors, vanish into thin air, and perform other similarly unexplainable acts. Most of the time, accounts from people who have witnessed these entities say that the Shadow People will just stand and watch them from a corner. Ironically, when they are being directly looked at, the Shadow People will avoid eye contact and will shift away and eventually disappear. However, even after their disappearance, the person suffering the ‘attacks’ of the Shadow People will still have a constant feeling of being watched.

SP-04

Some of these Shadow People ‘attack’ when we are at our most vulnerable such as when we are asleep or about to fall into a state of deep sleep. ‘Attacks’ can come in the form of sleep paralysis or something else, which is scary because during the experience, victims will not be able to help themselves at all. They can struggle and try to scream or call out, but their shouts cannot be heard and their struggles cannot be seen by others around them. Those Shadow People who attack are more malevolent and they want something from the people they appear to. It is said that sometimes these Shadow People want the souls of the people that they come into contact with.

One of the very distinctive characteristics of these Shadow People is that they are able to move very fast and travel at very high speeds, which is possible. In Buddhism we learn that there are beings that can travel at the speed of thought. Thus, if we have some karmic connection to these beings, even by the mere thought of recalling them, we actually summon them to come to us. The only way to protect ourselves is through our daily sadhana practices and also our practice in our respective religious faith.

The fact that Shadow People disappear when they are looked at indicates that they are aware of their actions. They know when we are looking at them, which also means that when they show themselves to us, they intend for us to see them. The reason they fear us paying attention to them might be because they are negative in nature and want to create chaos when we are not paying attention. Thus when the living pay attention to them, they are afraid their intentions will be known to us. This may lead the potential victims to take precautionary or remedial measures, which they do not want. There are cases where people, after waking up from their sleep, experienced a Shadow Person in a hat and long trench coat saying, “I almost got you.” It shows that some of these Shadow People are very malevolent and will harm you.

SP-05

Through the many accounts of experiences that others have shared online, it seems the greatest harm Shadow People have caused is disturbance in their sleep, sleep paralysis (whereby the victim cannot move or talk but they are fully awake), and communicating to get people to do things for them. Some people suffer from depression, anxiety and even mild insanity due to pressure from others who do not believe them about the Shadow People disturbing them. This is also another way Shadow People harm their victims, by alienating them from their loved ones and close friends.

Types of Shadow People

Three of the most frightening accounts I have heard of the Shadow People are known as ‘The Hat Man’, ‘The Yellow-Eyed Being’ and ‘The Red-Eyed Being’. What the three types of Shadow People have in common is that they are extremely dark, as though there is no light that can pass through. These particular Shadow People feed on the fear that people have. Thus when some people have encounters with these beings, they always feel very drained and tired no matter how much they rest.

There are other accounts of how a man-like Shadow Person wearing something like a fedora appears at the corner of the room or even by the bedside, just staring at the person. This is why Shadow People are also called ‘Hat Man’ sometimes. Everyone who has come across this Hat Man have said that they have never seen the Hat Man remove his hat. But what is common is that he will tip his hat when he knows that his presence has been noticed. After that, he will disappear. There are no other explanations as to why he does this. However, my guess is that these Hat Men are not able to do anything to the person they approach when they are in full consciousness. They are only able to do harm when the person that they have approached is in the state of sub-consciousness.

SP-06

The Hat Man is sometimes seen with red eyes. Those who have cross paths with Red-Eyed Hat Man have described the eyes as being extremely red and unlike anything they have seen before. Just by looking at these beings, witnesses say their hearts will sink and they will suddenly feel very depressed. They immediately experience an anxiety and get sense of impending doom. There are records saying that sometimes there are people who are woken up in the night, only to see long bony hands reaching for their throats. When they look up, it is a very dark man-like shadow with brighter-than-blood red eyes looking directly at them. These Shadow People are recorded to have a long trench coat and a hat.

Or view the video on the server at:
https://video.tsemtulku.com/videos/TheHatManDocumentary.mp4

Whenever people see red or yellow-eyed beings, they usually link it to demonic activity. The main reason for this is that the experiences of Shadow People always leave a negative and disturbing feeling behind. There is nothing that is nice about it.

Both the Red-Eyed Shadow People and Yellow-Eyed Shadow People are said to have prominent eyes that shine penetratingly in the dark. Both these beings are reportedly able to speak to us directly and we can hear what they say without any technological aid. Their voices are deep and otherworldly, and the things that they say are usually something that is not pleasant.

However, there are instances where these beings will just stand in places that makes it obvious they are there and they will make their presence known to you even if it is just for a few seconds. The people who have came across these beings always say that they know these entities are malevolent and are there for a very nasty reason.

SP-07

Through my research, I came across an eyewitness who shared his experience. One time before he went into deep sleep, he saw two Shadow People at the corner of his room. One of them had yellow eyes, and the other had red eyes. The eyewitness knew that these Shadow People were nasty and negative beings. He felt that the Red-Eyed Being was more malevolent and vicious. However, he was lucky as these beings did not do anything to him and he came away unharmed.

How you can protect yourself

What you can do if you have sightings or feel like you are being watched by Shadow People or similar beings is to light some juniper incense (you can get them from VajraSecrets), then recite this prayer and request the protector Dorje Shugden for protection. At the same time, use the smoke from the juniper incense to clear the energy of the space around you. Make sure the smoke permeates every corner of your room, house or office or wherever you have experienced the Shadow People.

SP-08

If you happen to come face-to-face with these beings, you can chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden, Sengdongma or Dukkar, seven times or more. Then blow the mantra onto these Shadow People to bless them and also as protection. After doing so, if you are still freaked out over what has happened, you can continue to chant the mantra under your breath until you feel better.

The best way to protect yourself is by doing the protective prayers of deities like Dorje Shugden, Sengdongma or Dukkar daily to ask them for their blessings. These deities are known for their ability to help us with spirit disturbances and pacifying black magic spells. Through the practice it generates blessings and protection for us. Hence, through invoking these deities by chanting their mantras, we will be able to protect ourselves using the sound of the mantras. Personally what I find very useful is the practice of Dorje Shugden who has helped me get over many instances where I was in fear because I thought that there is an entity near me.

A short story

This story was told to me by a friend about how a black figure is always with him since he was young. To protect his identity, we shall call this friend of mine ‘Harry’. This figure that Harry spoke about fits the characteristics of Shadow People where the figure is intensely dark with no distinctive features. The only feature that can be worked out is that it is not in the form of a human, but an animal with yellow eyes. It is a big beastly entity that is bigger and taller than any average man.

SP-11

When Harry was a kid, he did not know better and would always play with this Shadow Entity. As he got older, the Entity would ask him to do things to hurt the people around him and also to hurt himself. When asked why he behaved in such a way, Harry would say that it was his alter-ego (the Shadow Entity) that was telling him to behave like that. In the 30 years since Harry began communicating with this being, it formed a very strong connection to him and would often ‘possess’ Harry to use his body for harmful things. Harry would have no choice but to allow this to happen as the being threatened to hurt his children.

Whenever Harry wanted to break that connection with the Entity, it made it very difficult for Harry to do so. The being would create more disturbances in his daily life which included having things flying across rooms. Harry’s family members would suddenly have very bad medical conditions that required them to be hospitalised, but the doctors would not be able to diagnose what is wrong. Harry would also keep hearing a voice that telling him that the Sengdongma practices he does are of no use. The Entity would even tell him that if he wants his family members to be alright and not die due to the unexpected illnesses, he would have to stop the Sengdongma practices. This was very scary as the Entity used Harry’s love towards his family and the fear of losing them to control him. It was trying to force Harry to give up the practice as relying on Sengdongma would break the bond between them (Harry and the Entity).

SP-09

Harry is still doing the Sengdongma practice today. He has told me that the attacks are getting more frequent now but he knows that he should persevere with the practice because of the beneficial result it will eventually have. It is only a matter of time before the being has to let go thanks to Sengdongma’s protection, and Harry feels that the Shadow Person knows it too. That is why the Shadow Person is trying so hard to discourage him from continuing with Sengdongma’s practice. Harry knows that by doing the Sengdongma practice, it will help to break that connection that he has with the Shadow Entity.

I would like to wish Harry all the best in his practice and hope that everything will be good for him and his spiritual journey.

Conclusion

Through this sharing, I hope that you now have more information about Shadow People. These beings may not appear to harm you at first, but their initial benevolence might be just a ploy to encourage you to create a connection with them before they start demanding things, and harming you and your loved ones.

SP-10

Please do not engage with any form of supernatural beings that are unenlightened and never rely on them. When we do that, we will only get hurt because such beings are not operating out of compassion and wisdom, and they do not have clairvoyance on an enlightened level to see where their advice will lead us. If we rely on them and follow their advice, by the time we see the damage, it is usually too late when we could have prevented the harm by just not engaging in matters like that.

Shadow people as they are being called have visited me four times at night while I was sleeping. No hats or outline of a body. They looked like they were wearing hooded capes. There was no discernible movement of limbs. The first few times, they were in a group of three. The last time it was one being alone. They reach the height of the ceiling and the space of the room; the larger the room, the bigger they were. In the tallest room with a ceiling about 12 feet high, the lone being was about 11 ft tall. These beings tried to suck my astral body through my feet, each time. Physically fighting them is of no use because they do not have physical forms. The only thing that is useful, at least in my case, was light and mental strength. They do not enter a lighted area. Having a nightlight on all night is protection. Having a nearby friend/partner/spouse etc. who can see the physical struggle (which will look like struggling in a bad dream) and turning on the light, will immediately disband them.

I appreciate your account on Shadow People, I have been looking for something on this scale of an explanation for so long, so I really appreciate it.

    You see,
recently I have been researching Shadow Figures because I had a very unnerving encounter with one. It was very tall, but for some reason I was staring directly at it and it wouldn’t disappear. There was no hat, no cloak, but something I did notice was it had glowing, white eyes.

At first when I saw it I assumed that because it was dark my mind was playing tricks on me, and that there was probably something there creating the shadow of a person. It didn’t have eyes at first, and it wasn’t very vivid. But then my alarm light turned on and illuminated my room. I could see it perfectly then.

It’s figure wasn’t “misty” or an indefinite shape. I was clearly able to make out what it was. It seemed solid, or so dark that it could be. There was nothing there creating shape of a person, and when I stared right at the figure, right at its “face,” it opened its eyes.

Building up to that moment I could feel my whole body becoming numb, because I’ve seen figures like these before, and I haven’t had many pleasent experiences. I had this feeling of dread and uncertainty that I couldn’t shake, but the moment I saw it’s eyes I knew it was real, and I wasn’t seeing things, and the terror I felt was a suffocating.

The eyes were a trigger, and I was in disbelief. Sure, I liked to call myself somewhat a paranormal believer, but when it came to my own experiences I wanted more then anything for it to be just imagination.

Does anyone know about what exactly this is? Or have seen/experienced the same or a similar thing? It stayed there, hovering over me for the longest time, no matter what I did.

    Any inputs?

Thank you for the interesting sharing. I was quite insightful has I get to know more about shadow people.

I guess one should have a strong will to face challenges given by such people. However we should also have faith in God and follow our spiritual practices diligently, as it helps to protect ourselves.

This is great to finally read something regarding the shadow people. I’d like to share my experience of what happened one night I saw what I thought to be a shadowman. He looked just like the photo shown the man with the long coat and fedora…One night at my house i had my uncle n his partner over, my children were asleep in bed. My uncle, his partner and I had been working most the night setting up furniture and laying carpet as I only moved in few months earlier and was still setting up afterwards we sat down for a coffee and smoke and I felt the urge to look up so I did and that’s when i saw the shadow man I was fixated I couldn’t look away must’ve only lasted a few seconds but felt much longer, he appeared near and open end wall and walked across the wall I could see his hat and coat and side profile that’s when he turned to look at me then turned away and reached his arm out and his arm extended belong the wall so his fingers touched the curtains hanging, he pushed the curtains open then disappeared as to walk out thru the curtain. I had goosebumps n my hair were stood up on my arms I immediately looked at my uncle’s partner and she had the same look she asked if I just saw that aswell, i confirmed…my uncle didn’t believe immediately until his partner also told him then he said to us less check the time I bet ita 3.30(AM) so I pulled my phone checked the time it was exactly 3.30am I was in shock a few moments later I hear my son scream from the room and I go to investigate my uncle held me back and said NO, I’ll check. Shortly after he comes out and says everything was fine etc. A few days later he tells me when he went to the room to check on my son, that my son who was 4 at the time was standing up in the room rubbing his eyes there was no blanket or pillow on his bed so my uncle asked what happened he said my son told him that my other son had pulled him out of bed, but as my uncle recalls my other son was heavily asleep in the bed beside him. I should also mention that the same son kept complaining ONLY afterwards of a shadow hand on his door and each time he tried to show me I couldn’t see it, until one night I laid on my sons bed and turned my head a certain way I could see the shadow hand and it was very clearly am elderly frail shadow hand with long nails dropping. I scrubbed it off it was a white chalky substance then I check to make sure it was gone and it was and my son began sleeping in his room but a few weeks later the same shadow hand is back. I dont think it’s anything to be worried about could you help shed further light?

  7. Laura on Jan 17, 2019 at 9:41 am

I have had 2 encounters with shadow people . First was the hat man wearing a trench coat, it was standing at the bottom of my bed, I was petrified but it disappeared when I turned the light on. Second time I was on holiday and woke during the night to sleep paralysis but out the corner of my eye I could make out 2 shadow people who were pushing me down on the bed. I remember asking them to leave in the name of Jesus Christ and it stopped. These were both a few years ago and I truly hope it never happens again.

Thank you Vinnie for this very interesting article about Shadow People. These few days I suddenly recall back that I have encountered Shadow People many times in my Grandparents house where i grew up in. I always see these shadows at the corner of my eyes at a glimpse but it didnt disturb me and i didnt feel scared. I thought there was something wrong with my eyes and just ignored it. Now I think back and maybe it could be our family ancestors because my next door neighbour aunty had the same experience with her late mum’s soul coming back to visit her everytime.

  9. Andrea Lai on Nov 26, 2016 at 10:59 pm

Interesting article. When I’m reading this, memories flash back many years ago. I experienced myself this shadow people appeared several times at the same place but in different occasion. It happened at my close friend house where I used to hang around.

When I first encountered this black figure I thought it was my eyes problem. When I start seeing few times,I started get curious and tell my friend about it. What she told me, the existing of black figure was most probably from person who have passed away which she mean was her belated father. Since then, I will see this figure whenever I traveled with her family or have big grand dinner with them. Though it may sound scary,to me it is harmless. There is one time, he stand very close, almost 5ft away from me!From my fast glance,I could see smoke on top of his head as I knew he smokes. The last time,I saw him was my friend’s mom funeral where he stood lying stylishly on a bike..lol.

Overall what I see that shadow people appeared merely for a reason. For me, their existence is to show they care and concern of their love ones.

  10. Sarah Yap on Nov 7, 2016 at 7:27 pm

Very interesting. When I was younger, I used to see dark shadows at the corner of my eye, but when I turn to have a good look, it will disappear. I cant say for sure if it’s a shadow people incident, but the dark shadows that I used to see gradually faded as I got older.

I do not doubt that there are supernatural beings around us all the time.

  11. Wan Wai Meng on Oct 27, 2016 at 11:56 pm

I thought i had a supernatural experience when I was very young, I woke up but felt paralyzed It was dark and I could not see anything. At that age I had learnt Amitabha’s mantra, I recited it as best I could, and I kind of broke away from that paralysis.

  12. Pastor Patsy on Aug 26, 2016 at 4:41 pm

Thank you for this interesting post. There is nothing nice about the Shadow People. These beings are around due to their karma to be this realm of existence.

I have a friend who had these experiences with the Shadow People for some time and his health was also deteriorating. Not many people believe what he was experiencing and he even had to visit a psychiatrist but to no avail. He started taking refuge in The Three Jewels and also started on Dorje Shugden’s practice. Recently he told me that the “voices” and disturbances became less, he can sleep better and his body ache has lessened. He told me that occasionally when he is disturbed during his sleep and the body ache becomes intense, he will recite Dorje Shugden mantras and blow onto his body and the pain will subside. Hopefully with faith and devotion in his practice, my friend will be able to break off his karmic affinity with these entities.

  13. Edward Ooi on Jul 6, 2016 at 6:26 pm

I am very glad that Harry knows that Sengdongma’s practice will definitely get rid of the negative entity and I hope that he will have supreme faith in Sengdongma and that he will not give up. I simply cannot imagine how much fear Harry is feeling when he’s being threatened by the entity. The worst part is that the entity has been with him for more than 30 years which definitely is terrifying.

Just like Vinnie has mentioned, spirits are just like people where some of them are good and some of them are bad. I have heard many stories of people having a “Guardian Angel” by their side ever since they were kids, not only that the “Guardian Angel” would also protect those people whenever they are in danger. The “Guardian Angel” would act like a parent and they would sometimes also communicate with those people. Some of the people said that their Guardian Angel are their deceased parents or someone who hold them close from previous lifetimes or even in this current lifetime. It may actually sound sweet but it is actually very sad because the dead cannot let go of their attachments and move on to the afterlife and take a good rebirth. They are basically stuck in this realm, unwilling to let go.

There was a part of the Hat Man documentary where they shared a story where a person woke up in the middle of the night and saw a Hat Man near to his bed and he said: “I almost got you. That specific part really petrified me. Imagine if we were in the person’s shoes. Thank you Vinnie for sharing this awesome article with us.

Thanks Vinnie for sharing this article on Shadow People, it’s informative, with well done research and real story sharing; most importantly sharing on effective ways to protect oneself when one is face to face/facing the Shadow People. Having the correct information about things we fear of, is the first step for one to get help and apply any method might help them.

I find the information about the Shadow People is quite complete and helpful for one to learn more about the being. I observe the similarity of Shadow People and people with negative energy, or bad intention. All could instil fear and not good feeling being around them; and they are not helpful…Even we might not be able to help many, but we can always try hard to not leave negative feeling to those come near us…

  15. Pavara Lam on Jul 4, 2016 at 11:39 pm

There is really no lie that the shadow people exist.
It is kind of scary to know that these beings can harm even though they can’t be seen. When they are visible there really isn’t much one can do to get rid of the shadow people. Therefore it is really important to practice Dorje Shugden, we may never know when these beings are around and when they will strike us thus it is better to be prepared.

Thank you Vinnie for sharing this post.

I have never stumbled upon these things, am thankful for that. It would be a nice post to share with those who has interest on this. Instead of being afraid of them, we should gathered up our courage to have compassion for them. One will never know if we can actually do that unless…. we are in it!

Thanks Vinnie for this post on Shadow Man.

  17. HelenaC on Jun 28, 2016 at 1:33 pm

Its very interesting article. thanks for sharing Vinnie. Shadow people might be harmful or might not be but it is best for us to not connect with them. Whenever i feel uneasy and feel some negative feelings wherever i am i will chant DS mantra and dedicate to them for their better rebirth and as well as protection for me. Hope they will suffer less.

  18. pammie yap on Jun 24, 2016 at 9:56 pm

Thank you Vinnie for this interesting post. This is actually the first time I hear about the shadow people. And the scary part was that I was reading it alone in my cabin at night… And listening/watching the videos was not helping either… lol. But I am not scared because I have Dorje Shugden by my side…

I believe that the shadow people are not good people. From what I have read and heard above, I have not gotten any thing positive on them. Whether or not they are positive or negative beings, we should not even make contact with them.
As Buddhists, we are lucky that there are practices for someone encountering such problems. But like Harry, perseverance is the key for the practice no matter what happens because in the long run, the practices can only benefit and help.

  19. Sock Wan on Jun 20, 2016 at 2:48 pm

Thank you Vinnie for the interesting article, when I was young I used to see dark shadow at the corner of my eyes when I was in my grandparents’ house. I thought it was just my imagination, but I think they must have been the shadow people. They did not do anything harmful, maybe they were just passing through the house. In any case, even if we can see the normally unseen beings, we should not establish a connection with them, some of them are evil, they will try ways to hurt us or try to take over our body like the friend Vinnie. When we deal with the unseen, we should not have fear, but with compassion. Recite mantra with the motivation that they maybe liberated from their sufferings, not trying to chase them away with anger. We do hope they can take a better rebirth so they do have not to suffer anymore.

I have so many stories I don’t know where to start since I was a baby my mother would tell me that I will always talk to things that she couldn’t see I grew up that way I’m 46 this June 20th and all of my kids would always tell me that they saw Shadows shape people and when they would get real scared white light will shoot out from the light bulb and all the shadow people go away in to the corners ,this is before we even had internet so I knew they weren’t lying. My kids grew up very honest there are already all pretty much adults. I told them and I showed them how not to fear them because they do feed from our fears . I would tell them to grab a Bible and keep reading until their stomach doesn’t feel upset anymore as I grew up I taught them how to do the incense and how to pray around the house in the area Exedra . Sadly it got pretty violent scratching growling noises voices . One of the Dark Shadows kept appearing in my closet with red eyes, one of my boys went to dump the trash outside it was hiding hunched over behind the trash can grabbed his leg , he threw the trash and ran inside. when it got that bad we just blessed house the whole house from head to toe every cabinet every entry everywhere. We did not do it right the first time and what i mean by that my childern wete not being serious things.Things got worse the second time we did it my kids were very tough very brave With Tears in their eyes with strength in their heart we blessed the house again. I put holy water on their forehead and bless them to make sure nothing will try to go into us after we finished blessed the house there was a smell of roses, one of my kids said I smell roses the other one said no it smells like vanilla, The other one said do we have cookies in the oven. Then one of my boys said my friend his mom they go and bless people houses they volunteer and they said when they do it right they get the smell of vanilla cookies are roses. He said we did it right . So things were quiet for a very long time but WE STILL see them in the yard. Coming home from work late at night heavy fog driving very slowly in my neighborhood a block away before I got to my house. I saw heavy black shadow.I look up at it,it looked like a black caped prehistoric bird . It glided of a low hanging tree to the front of my car lights then slide it back off the street on to the tree across . It just slid softy into the tree it could see the branches move it was huge it looks like humongous bird .I prayed a lot before I got out of the car so I could go into the house with no fear so it won’t follow mme in .I believe it was the one my son saw behind the trash can .Of course you have to continue to do the ritual of blessing your house because if not they’ll start coming back in again. My kids and I have always been pretty clairvoyant it runs in my side of the family my mother tould me it’s from generations ago not a fun gift. My dreams are very intense forget about deep sleeping. Myself I could have episodes of the lifetime in less than 12 minutes of closing my eyes justs minutes and sleep traveling into bodies that were already had passed away realizing that I was in that bodies that was never me in different countries recently jumping into a actually spirit and I walked around in my dream and people couldn’t see me they could feel me and they would creep out
I bumped into another spirit that had passed and he was talking to me about Spirit transformation a triangle and something about Prophets I was too busy trying to ask him questions about how did I jump into a spirit not a body of spirit.Of course I did research once I woke up and found out information about triangles and transformation that I wasn’t aware of that all whatsoever . Thats the kind of information I get from my dreams and other Spirits trying to talk to me in my dreams. I could tell which Spirit feel they’re ok and then which ones or the bad ones but.to those I do exercise and I do I exercise them in they turn into ashes just disappear, Sometimes butterflies. the ones that are trapped and need to descend usually are the ones that turn to ashes then fade Away into the air and they turn into butterflies .In my dream I have learned to be able to pull my spirit out of my body while I’m sleeping and travel . I learned how to do that slowly from my horrible experiences of being pinned down in bed by my attackers. Any who I have alot to share if you want to contact me that’s OK. Something tould me to share it’s good that everyone is coming out of the fear and sharing. It’s the only way we can protect each other time to on pass the word if not you be manipulated into a corner. that’s why I would let my kids be openly to me always and not shut them away and tell them that it was there imagination. I didn’t tell him anything about myself until they started coming out with all their stories and then I started teaching them how to take care of their spirit. I’m dyslexic so sorry if this is hard to read .That’s why I don’t like to post too much it’s a pain LOL !!! Peace 🙂

What an interesting article. This reminds me of a story that I was told by a friend of mine. She moved into a house out in the countryside and the first night she was there, she experienced sightings of Shadow People. There were two of them, one male and one female standing in the hallway near her bathroom. She told me that they must have been the previous owners of the house who had become ghosts, and they really didn’t want her in their house.

Actually, from a Buddhist point of view this can really be the case. When people take rebirth in the Hungry Ghost realm, they are usually governed by the affliction of jealous that comes from their attachment to something. That is why you often here of places or objects being haunted, as the ghost or spirit it attached to a place or object. It is when we go to those places, or touch those objects, the ghost can get angry and come after us if we have the karma.

In cases like these we need to break the karmic link between ourselves and the ghost who harm us. This is done through generating compassion for these beings are they are suffering under the influence of their attachment, jealousy and the form that they are in. Another most effective method would be to engage in the daily practices of Dorje Shugden, especially in the form of Trakze. This practice is extremely effective in protecting oneself from the negative effects of such afflictions but also of other obstacles in our life.

  23. CindyH on Jun 17, 2016 at 8:25 am

Basically if the Shadow Spirits are in that form, it is safe to conclude that it didn’t arise from positive karma. As explained by Rinpoche and even in the Lamrim, such spirits/beings suffer through attempting to fulfil their samsaric/worldly desires yet it is an exercise in futility, because they lack the physical bodies to be able to act out such lusts. Thus, any dealings with them logically will not be generally positive.

It is one thing if one happens to have the karma for such being to harm/attempt to harm you (in which case there are many protective mantras and rituals which can be done to exhaust such karma between the spirit/being and you. To name but a few; Dorje Shugden Trakze to Dispel Black Magic & Spirits = https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/trakze-to-dispel-black-magic-spirits.html and Protection from Black Magic and Spirits = https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/protection-from-black-magic-and-spirits.html ), it is just extremely risky if you are actively seeking /continue contact with such beings for your own reasons. It is always going to be a question of time as to when you need to pay the “high price” in exchange for such “favours”. Harry’s experience (although quite unfortunate for him) where the spirit threatened Harry with his family and proceed to wreak havoc in their lives (when Harry refuse to allow such spirit who suffer from earthly lusts and addictions from seeking to fulfill those desires or “highs” through Harry’s physical body) serves as cautionary tale of such high price to pay.

Rinpoche has always stressed that such beings have to be treated with compassion and not feared. Technically, we are in the same boat as them too, as we allow our attachments/desire to govern most of our thoughts. And the only difference between us is that now we have a physical body. Also read before that when we chant mantras and recite Buddhist texts such as Lamrim out loud, all beings round us, including such spirits, will benefit from such exposure to Dharma and it is also an act of compassion.

I believe Shadow people exists since young. They can be harmful or unharmful. Thank you Vinnie for sharing this article as this has further proven that “they” do exist. This is something that scientists can’t explain till today. Scientists and psychologists will define and diagnose patients as having hallucination or mental problem or psychic when they tell them they were being bothered by the dark shadows. From young, I believe only the high lamas or monks can only help these people to be free from the “dark shadows”.

My son was disturbed by “something” once in the middle of the night where he woke up and cried very badly claiming that his leg was in pain and something disturbing his leg and something crawling on his leg. I examined and found no injuries nor any mosquitos or insects bite marks. He hugged me and said he was scared. Being a devotee of Goddess of Mercy for 25 years and then a Kecharian since Aug 2015, I immediately started to chant The Great Compassion mantra and OM Benza Wiki Bintana Soha to ask for protection. Upon finishing my mantra reciting, I blew the mantras onto my son’s leg. My son thereafter stopped crying and he told me he was ok and ready to go back to his room and sleep. The following night, my two children and I were sitting around the bed and started to recite OM Benza Wiki Bitana Soha and Migtsema mantras to ask for protection before they went to sleep. My son even put his Tsongkapha tsa tsa that been blessed during the Wesak Day beside his bed. Since then, the incident has never happened again. For this, I am very grateful to Kechara Sunday Dharma School as the teachers and pastors have taught my children how to recite Migtsema mantra and Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha. This is really important as mantras can always protect us from being “harmed” by the spirit.

From Vinnie’s write up, I feel thankful to her as I learn something new tonight ie to use Juniper incense to clear the energy then recite this prayer and request the protector Dorje Shugden for protection. Thank you to my Guru Tsem Rinpoche for setting up this blog to benefit so many people like myself.

Thank you vinnie for the great sharing, and it shows people that they do “exist”, I have this experience too in Singapore. We might felt nervous when we met , after practicing dharma, it turn to be calm and know the way to handle it. The only way to protect ourselves is through our daily sadhana practices and the faith.

  27. Cynthia Lee on Jun 14, 2016 at 3:20 am

In honesty, I have great fear for the unseen. I understand it’s due to my self-cherishing mind. Hence, what I find most interesting about this article is to chant and blow mantras onto these entities to bless them! Shadow people are sentient beings after all and nothing can harm me unless I have done harm to them.

Since I wouldn’t know for sure. Doing my daily sadhana for protection, clearing my negative karma and dedicating merits to them is the best thing I can do. Compassion is the way to go.

  28. Sharon Ong on Jun 13, 2016 at 3:16 pm

Never knew the name to these shadowy entities until I read your post, Vinnie. Before meeting Rinpoche, I used to get spooked by stuff like this. But thankfully after learning about spirits and such in Dharma class, I am not longer as fearful. Since having a Guru and Dharma protector in my life, I feel safe and protected. These days, whenever I get uneasy feelings or sense unwanted presence, I will chant any of the mantras as mentioned in the post. I also carry Protector Rice with me so that I can burn one grain in case of stronger presence.

This post is also a good reminder not to communicate with the supernatural as we do not know what their intentions are or if they are harmful. Some powerful and malevolent ones will even manipulate our thoughts to do harmful actions.

    Thanks for another great read!

Thank you Vinnie Tan for sharing this panaromal story with us. It is indeed very scary if anyone ever encounter such a being because a lot of us a helpless most people do not know where to seek for help and they have to suffer from fear and constant attack by this being in worst case some of them even lost their life, we are lucky because we have Rinpoche guidance and blessing to help us if any of us encounter these being .

  30. Edwin Tan on Jun 13, 2016 at 12:35 pm

    Dear Vinnie,

    Thank you for the article.

Many of us have the feelings of being watched, yet we do not know who or what is watching us. That itself creates a lot of anxiety and fear.. and I believe it is another feeding source for these shadow beings.

I thought on occasions I catch glimpse of them.. however, I will dismiss it as tired eyes.. of course, when I get really scared, I will chant Dorje Shugden’s mantra to bless and protect me. Sometimes Ducker’s mantra.

Just like what Beatrix mentioned, what we usually hear of are people in white or long hair.. might be more typical in this region.. maybe adaptive appearances? Worth more research… however, my encounters are usually with long-haired females in white.. sometimes with a child.. female too…

With Rinpoche’s blessings and protection, and with Rinpoche’s advice on daily saddhanas.. my sleep paralysis and disturbances stopped for many years.. and I wish it to be that way.

Nowadays, I always feel a glow of white light protecting me and my family, and whenever I feel “threatened” by sudden “odd” feelings, I will think of Rinpoche and Dorje Shugden and chant Protector’s mantra to keep calm and feel protected.

    Thank you.

  31. Beatrix Ooi on Jun 13, 2016 at 7:55 am

This is a very interesting article as it describes something I don’t normally hear people talk about, it’s not like any other long-haired or white-dressed spirit encounter. It’s scary how these beings would latch onto a person and use him/ her to perform negative actions to harm others. Now we see the importance of not engaging with spirits because if the karmic affinity is there, they can take over our body anytime.

  32. Doreen Teoh on Jun 12, 2016 at 11:59 pm

it is out of ignorance or not knowing that about this form of supernatural beings like “Shadow People” are fine for us to rely on them. When this forms appears or harms us, it is also own-self karma that causes this incident. So, if ones do encounter this experiences or is making contacts, building a relationship with this beings, it is very important to seek help, and family members that have anyone that tells you this kind of issue, please do listen to them, and help them to get out of this issue.

  33. Fong on Jun 12, 2016 at 5:54 pm

We get a lot of stories of different kind of supernatural beings in smaller towns which is assumed to be idle chatter to pass the evenings – a source of entertainment watching the frightened faces of kids.

Then there is the then famous Haw Par villa in Singapore with its graphic statues depicting Hell. That gave me another glimpse into the scary world. It’s when I started learning about Buddhism that I realized where these stories and depiction comes from.

Now, from the various articles by pastor David and Vinnie I see the different types of beings. There really is a lot to learn. It is good to know but better still if we know the precaution we can take. Knowing the remedies available is even better.

Most times, whenever I feel uneasy at any place I just chant Dorje SHugden mantra OM BENZA WIKI BITTANA SOHA. It helps a lot to calm my nerves. But then again I use the same mantra for a lot situations.

I guess, these stories are brought to us not just for a good night’s laugh. It is real, and we can take precaution and even apply remedies. Thanks, Pastor Shin for the links to the articles about Trakze and Sengdongma.

This is an interesting read as many of us have one way or another encountered these Shadow people before. I am not sure if they can be class as “spirits”? Because I’ve heard these being could be entities from a different realm coming into our world to cause harm. Their nature is harmful that is for sure.

My experience with a shadow entity was the one with glowing eyes, can’t be sure of the colour but definitely looked like the picture Vinnie posted up of a long haired figure with long limbs, glowing eyes and squatting. I saw this entity when I went camping with some friends in KKB. It can move extremely fast and it seem to have appeared from the dark depth of the forest and came crawling over to see us.

Another encounter of this similar being was with my late husband Justin who told me someone was trying to grab him from his leg to throw him out of the window and this was when he was conscious he said. The very next day we went to volunteer at Kechara Paradise (KP) SS2 outlet and suddenly Rinpoche decided to pay KP a visit and as if Rinpoche knew exactly what had happened to Justin, without anyone saying anything to Rinpoche, Rinpoche asked Justin if he had just recently experienced something negative and describe the being exactly like how the picture above looked like. A figure with long wavy like hair, all black and squatting trying to cause harm. I remembered Rinpoche said something like this was not a “spirit” but an entity from another realm/dimension. Then Rinpoche proceeded to do a “gako” or Vajrayogini protection ritual on Justin and those of us who was there. Rinpoche basically closed Justin’s chakras to prevent negative energies from entering and placed Vajrayogini’s wrathful protectress (dakinis) at all our chakras to protect each chakra which is a door way for these negative entity to enter us. After that Justin never experienced anything negative again. Thank goodness!

I guess at the end of the day if we have the karma to connect with them and experience them, we will surely cross path with them but most importantly is knowing how we can protect ourselves and not create anymore karma with these beings. Thank you Vinnie for yet another interesting creepy paranormal post that helps us understand the paranormal world more and how we can protect or prevent ourselves from experiencing their negative energies.

  35. Eddie Yee on Jun 12, 2016 at 12:32 am

Even today, there are many classes of spirits or pretas existing, as said in the teachings of our Rinpoche. By reciting the mantra of Mitgsema, Ganden Lha Gyema, Dorje Shugden etc., these spirits, though powerful as they are, cannot afflict us, bother us or harm us. Yes, unnecessarily we should not meddle or engage ourselves with any class of such spirits, as always cautioned by our Guru. As further advised, these spirits can trick people, pretend to be other dieties by saying good things, but actually trying to trick us in believing in them. Then they take advantage to possesing people, enter their bodies, make them say crazy things to harm themselves, and finally to make one to do harmful acts causing him or her to die. Yes, I too have seen such happening in the past! As fortunate practitioners of Kechara House and doing Dharma work everyday, and practising and doing pujas for others, and many other spiritual practices too, these lower realm beings will not like to get near to us if we do not encourage them. Best of all prevention is to keep ourselves away from them, have full faith in our spiritual practices and do our spiritual work well devotedly and have nothing to fear! Om Mani Padme Hung.

  36. JP on Jun 12, 2016 at 12:27 am

Thanks for the interesting research on Shadow People. I have had experiences with entities that are “shadow” like but they don’t wear a hat nor have red or yellow eyes. They are a black silhouette of a person. Some I can see clearly and some I can only see at the corner of my eye.

The one I could see clearly was climbing on the wall up to the ceiling. Similar to Spiderman. It didn’t do anything to me. Perhaps it was just trying to get my attention.

The ones that could only be seen at the corner of the eye are exactly what Vinnie wrote. Somehow they will never let us see them clearly.

  37. Stella Cheang on Jun 11, 2016 at 3:50 pm

Before reading this article by Vinnie, I always thought the dark shadow that I caught at the corner of my eyes during late nights or sometimes during twilight hours are just the effect of bad lightings. Little do I know these are actual beings that lurk in the dark, stand and watch their human victim from a corner. When they are being directly looked at, the Shadow People will avoid eye contact and will shift away and eventually disappear.

I find interesting the fact that Shadow People disappear when they are being looked at directly. As pointed out by Vinnie, it could indicate that the Shadow People are aware of their actions, which is negative in nature and want to create chaos when we are not paying attention. Thus when we pay attention to them, they are afraid their intentions will be known to us.

Since these beings could be sinister in nature, we should always be prepared to protect ourselves against their attack. One way is to use Juniper incense (we can get them from VajraSecrets), then recite this prayer and request the protector Dorje Shugden for protection. At the same time, use the smoke from the Juniper incense to clear the energy of the space around us. In the worst case if we come face-to-face with them, we can chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden (Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha), Sengdongma or Dukkar, seven times or more. Then blow the mantra onto these Shadow People to bless them and also as protection.

Thank you Rinpoche and Vinnie for this interesting article.

    Humbly, bowing down,
    Stella Cheang

I knew this topic would show up eventually. lol. They are very interesting paranormal entities to know about. They have been known to follow people from location to location. I’ve seen shows where people tell their experience with them, generally it’s never good in nature. Most paranormal groups and people who claim to be real psychics don’t even know how to get rid of them. They usually tell the family to move as there is a good chance they will remain at the location. There is still on going research. They are described to be the next closest thing to a demon here in the west, without them being an actual demon.

Still for something paranormal of this nature it’s best not to get involved with them on any level if possible. Thank you Vinnie Tan for sharing this topic :). It’s nice to be informed about different kinds of paranormal entities/different classifications. I know here in the West we only have three catagories for things like this, Spirits/ghosts,demons or angels. I fear we are far behind compared to the East because I know you have many more different classes of spirits and supernatural/paranormal entities etc (tsen,Gyalpo, rakshasa, yakshas, dakas/dakinies).

  39. Sofi on Jun 10, 2016 at 11:30 pm

An interesting article on Shadow People. I guess they may be those that you glimpse from the corner of your eyes and when you face it, there is nothing there. Usually we will think its our mind playings tricks. I had always thought them to be spirits of deceased people and was interesting to learn that they are not.

Being a Buddhist, we accept them as being a sentient beings within the realm of hungry ghost but I still find it amazing to learn the differences of the beings that exist there. This applies to the other realms too. So many new beings are being discovered now.

I do hope that your friend will swiftly be able to detach himself from his Shadow Person with his continued faith in Sengdongma pujas. I guess the increase attacks show that his practices are working as the entity is giving its all to hang on and knows that the time is coming when he has to go.

Thank you Vinnie for this informative article. Now I may just be more conscious to keep an eye out for the shadows. Its time for more OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA.

Momo is a dumpling made of all-purpose flour and filled with either meat or vegetables. Inspired by Tibetan dumplings, the dish is a very popular Nepali street food. It is one of my favourite foods. Last year while in Kathmandu I am fortunate given the opportunity to learn and made vegetarian Momos.

Bouddha, also known as Boudhanath, is a stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal which is located about 11 km from outskirts of Kathmandu. Its massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal and the world. The Boudhanath Stupa pyramid is coated with over 60 pounds of gold, is one of the largest and one of the most significant Buddhist monuments in the world. This great Stupa is home to precious relics and this semi-circular structure stands out with its majestic mandala, recognized by UNESCO in 1979 as a World Heritage Site. The Boudhanath is the most sacred sites in Tibetan Buddhism outside of Tibet, reflecting the cosmological tenets of Buddhism. Was there last year June joining thousands of pilgrims circumambulate the stupa.
The aerial view of this Boudhanath Stupa is magnificent indeed. Looking merely at the pictures is a blessing.

Shanti Stupa in Pokhara was built by Nipponzan-Myōhōji monk Morioka Sonin with local supporters under the guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii, a Buddhist monk and the founder of Nipponzan-Myōhōji
A famous site where locals as well as foreign tourists will go there throughout the year. One have to climb 400 steep steps to get to the Pagoda, it was worth the climb, as its situated on the Anadu Hill at the height of 1100 meters.
Shanti Stupa shrine was built as a symbol of peace designed to provide a focus for people of all races and creeds, and to help unite them in their search for world peace. It has also become a tourist attraction as it provides a panoramic view of the Annapurna range, Pokhara city and Fewa Lake. The white pagoda has two tiers for tourists and religious visitors to circumambulate. Its location on the hilltop provides a splendid view of sunrise and sunset for visitors. Hopefully I could visit this amazing Holy site soon.

Buddhist Pilgrimage in Nepal is the best trip that takes us to the spiritual centers where Buddhism’s practices and meditations emerged. Nepal is popular for its Buddhism practices and itself is the birthplace of the originator Gautam Buddha. This beautiful Himalayan nation hosts the amazing Buddhist trails, monuments and stupas. It’s the place where the Buddha meditated and the Buddha enlightened the people with wisdom. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, boasts many caves, stupas, and monasteries that are associated with Bodhisattvas, Buddha and Siddhas. The cave of Naropa and his guru Tilopa is beside Pashupatinath temple, bank of the holy Bagmati River. All these caves is considered as the holy site and Buddhist pilgrimage sites as the caves is the place where Naropa received training, teachings and had visions of Vajrayogini.
I am fortunate to have visited this Holy caves while at Kathmandu last year.

The Lord Buddha was born in 623 BC in the sacred area of Lumbini, southern Nepal.Lumbini is one of the world’s most important spiritual sites for the Buddhist pilgrims from around the world. The site is a popular place of Buddhist pilgrimage for many yearly. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. The tranquility, aura and peace that we would experience in Lumbini makes it among the most holy places to visit in the world. I am fortunate going to this holiest place of Buddha birthplace last year with my Dharma brothers and sisters .It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, worth visiting

Very interesting and informative article. In most cultures, women is consider as lower in status compared with men. Ancient times in India, man took the lead while women is seconded. But times has changed for the better where women are not degraded in society. They receive equal recognition, appreciation, and stature, yet in countries and places around the world, women are still viewed as inferior and treated accordingly. But in Buddhism women have been increasing in number and has proven that many of them have gained full enlightenment in a female body. In Buddhism is concerned there’s no discrimination toward women ,both men and women are equal. There‘s many female Mahasiddhas and Yoginis as in this blog. May it inspired many more to come. Interesting article and its great sharing knowledge.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands,

Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions, one may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Some people may also feel pressure or a sense of choking. Sleep paralysis is a temporary inability to move or speak. It’s not harmful and should pass quickly, but at times can be frightening. It can affect anyone but is most common in young adults and they might have hallucination. The scary facts about sleep paralysis is those who suffer from it have said it felt like someone was choking them on their chest so they could not breathe.
As for me I have not experience as such before as least i know now what i can to do.
Thank you Vinnie Tan for sharing. Interesting read of these stories related to sleep paralysis.

nteresting as this texts been composed after being inspired to do so . That’s interesting as this nature are traditionally considered exceptionally potent in their blessings if the claim of divine inspiration is authentic. According to the account in the introduction, the author composed this text after being divinely inspired to do so. It’s a very rare kind and its acceptance been recognised and received praise by very high lamas of our tradition. Reading this article tell us all of how powerful Dorje Shugden when we invoke in our prayers.
Interesting read of the short biography of Ven. Geshe Kunchok Gyaltsen, the author of Mass of Vajra Fire.

That’s wonderful Rinpoche has composed prayers in English so as everyone could recite and practice. For beginners is such a meaningful insights and perspectives without commitments and initiation. Moreover each prayers is for a specific blessing that helps practitioners to gain attainments and overcome obstacles. Easy and simple for everyone to start off.
We are fortunate that everything Rinpoche did brought tremendous benefit to all sentient beings. Whatever prayers Rinpoche has composed are especially potent with blessings.
Thank you Rinpoche and writers for this sharing.

A great article , revisit this again of Tibetan Lamas and their dogs. As now I have a pet doggie with me, I came to understand more of them . Dogs are the most amazing creatures, they give us unconditional love. For me, they are the role model for being alive. Buddhists believe dogs also have the potential to become enlightened and can teach us about responsibility, love, and other Buddhist principles. The Q & A by Sandra Klein’s interview with the Venerable Gonsar Rinpoche gave us a better understanding and very informative of Tibetan dogs under Lamas care. ccording to the Buddha Dharma, all sentient beings have Buddha nature — from ants to humans. Though we often look at dogs as wonderful companions an teach us to embrace Buddhist principles. They, themselves, embody many of these principles.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Living with my wife, whose world is meticulously painted with the hues of OCD, is a journey that intertwines the essence of love with the complexities of the human mind. Her relentless pursuit of cleanliness and order, transforming even the most negligible corner into a testament of organization, often dances on the fine line between admiration and frustration. The sight of her steering clear from trash bins as if they were labyrinths of chaos, serves as a poignant reminder of the battles she fights within. Yet, it’s through these very battles that I’ve learned the profound language of patience and the unspoken strength of support. Therapy, in its gentle embrace, has been a beacon of light for her, guiding her through the stormy seas of OCD. It has not only offered her solace but has also unveiled the strength of her spirit, teaching us both the beauty of resilience. As she journeys through the pathways of healing, I stand by her, a testament to the power of love and the enduring promise of hope. Together, we navigate the complexities of her world, discovering that within the challenges lie opportunities for growth, understanding, and an unbreakable bond. https://www.mindfullyaliveonline.com/obsessive-compulsive-disorder-ocd/

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. The legacy of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings and legacy continues into the modern age.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Antionette for this detailed sharing,

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Billions of terrestrial animals die annually. Billions. You can’t even imagine it. And all that because people don’t want to give up meat, even though there are so many alternatives. ~ Gabriel Azimov

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

He shared that he truly believes that Dorje Shugden and Rinpoche always there guiding him. He shared how sometimes DS will give him hints to avert troubles ahead or to alert him when he 'misbehaved'. Hope many will come to know more about this powerful Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden aka DS. Having Dorje Shugden is like having a powerful ally that will protect us day and night.
