VVIP Thank You from the President

In March, Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) received an appreciation letter from President Ma’s office in Taipei for sharing the wisdom of Buddhism & the spiritual journey of young Asian writers though KMP books such as Call Me Paris and There’s No Way But Up . With deep respects and heartfelt thanks to the President of Taiwan and his office for his gracious letter. I am very proud of this as I was born in Taiwan.

Recently, we have received an email from His Excellency Ma Ying-Jeou’s office for the Tsongkhapa box set which I would like to share with you below:

Here is a picture of the Tsongkhapa box set that was produced by Kechara Media & Publications. I am very proud of the KMP team whom together with Kechara Discovery’s Liaison Paul Yap have created Buddha box sets that serve to give good information about the practice of various deities.

Of course, what is more supreme than the core practice of  our lineage, the Guru Yoga of Tsongkhapa  – easy to understand, and very simple meditation that you can do anywhere and at anytime.

The Tsongkhapa box set is the second in the series after the Setrap box set.

Please support us so that we can continue to bring you more Dharma:

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for sharing Dr Berzin’s article.

As a Buddhist it is very important to believe the existance of rebirth. Without rebirth then there will be no beginingless, endingless and karma which is being stressed in Buddhism. It is by believing rebirth that we will improve our self, practise dharma and follow the path that leads to enlightenment.

The existance of Dharma-Lite and The Real Thing attitude is due to different level of understanding in Buddhism. Since Dharma-Lite group may not have full understanding of Buddhism hence they practise Dharma with a limit for their ‘convenience’. Their motivation is driven for the benefit of themselves rather that focusing outside to all sentient beings.

While The Real Thing attitude will practise dharma for the benefit of others as this is the way that lead to liberation. We here are very fortunate to be given this opportunity to practice the Real Thing with proper guidance in Kechara.

Again thank you Rinpoche for creating this opportunity for us.

    With folded hands,
    Lin Mun

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.

It serves as a very good reminder to parents and adults on how we want to perceive the importance and usage of money. I would think that money is not evil but the motivation of how we wanting the money and using it that determine the effect.

Most of the time we will chase for more and more money as it is our perception that it will bring happiness to our life. Not realising that it will only bring temporary happiness and more harm if we use it on wrong intention.

I hope this article will bring awareness not only to parents but everyone so we can change our preception and most importantly the motivation in using/sharing money and wealth.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing HRH Tengku Ismail’s advice to all Malaysian recently.

I totally agree with the Crown Prince’s advice. All religion is about peace and love. We have our right to choose whatever religion which suites us.

“The quality of your life depends on the quality of your thought” from the Crown Prince had widen my thought because the quality of our thought always determine our action. If our thought is bad, no matter how well we cover it, one-day it will explode and the sufferings begin. Therefore set up a good motivation is a good start to transform our mind to be a better person and stop create more bad karma.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thanks for your sharing and teaching. You make this write up easy to understand and explained the definition of karma and merits very well.

Previously, I thought positive karma and merits are similar. It is true that most of the time the reason I practise dharma is for a few person and not for the benefit pof everyone. I will now remind myself of the motivation and apply it into my daily practise.

Also thanks for the clarification on samaya and Guru Devotion. It is very important to understand this point that will help to lead us to Enlightenment path.

    Thank you again.

Dear Dorje Shugden practitioner and Dorje Shugden protester ( CTA and HH the Dalai Lama )

    1) The action of CTA and HH The Dalai Lama contradictory against human right base on the evidence that show in video http://video.tsemtulku.com/videos/HHDLBansDorjeShugden.flv

If u guy still remember back to 10 December 1989 in University Aula, Oslo, HH the Dalai Lama giving the Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech, His Holiness did mention ” No matter what part of the world we come from, we are all basically the same human beings. We all seek happiness and try to avoid suffering. We have the same basic human needs and is concerns. All of us human beings want freedom and the right to determine our own destiny as individuals and as peoples. That is human nature. The great changes that are taking place everywhere in the world, from Eastern Europe to Africa are a clear indication of this.” the quote extract from http://www.dalailama.com/messages/acceptance-speeches/nobel-peace-prize

Is very clear that the ban and the action is discriminate against same race ” Tibetan who practice Dorje Shugden ” What His Holiness the Dalai Lama said during Nobel Peace Price Acceptance ceremony totally not matching his ideology on world peace. i personally feel doubt and confuse on the speech of His Holiness the Dalai Lama . My statement is fair because i’m not Tibetan from both side. I personally feel as a leader, he/she must beware on his speech and statement, if the statement that deliver in the public are not accordance or hiding the facts, unnecessary misunderstanding will arise from different party.

i wish to take this opportunity requesting CTA and His Holiness the Dalai Lama lift the Dorje Shugden practice Ban base on the solid evident and proof that Dorje Shugden no Harm to people who practice it and give back the freedom to Tibetan people who practice Dorje Shugden

Nice write up !!! and the title is also catchy
Guru is fundamental and crucial in our spiritual path, without Guru we cant learn the Dharma effectively, for instance when we first time facing Add Math in secondary school if we don’t have guidance from add math Teacher, we sure will surrender and lose faith in add math subject.end up we will failed the subject, same thing apply in spiritual path
Some people may always depending on Guru ( Guru Syndrome ) because Guru always can answer his/her requests and needs, this kind of students can perceive as ( Using Guru ) as a tool. if long term no benefits in spiritual path.
i like the Serum analogy that describe by Li kheng, Serum is kind of antidote for our bad habits, habituation, and etc. If we get the serum from our Guru and we apply immediately, we can transform to better person. In most case, students know the power of serum but don’t really apply 100%, including me
In our Prayer always do prostration to our Guru first ( Namo Guru Beh ) then follow by Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. From the sequence we can realize that the role of Guru is important in spreading the Dharma

Thanks Li Kheng for this good write up

    Much Love

Thx Rinpoche for sharing . I really agreed that money is just a piece of paper if we don’t make use if it. We should spend the money wisely like doing more charity and help those needed.Dont be “money slave” .Nowadays ,mostly younger generation really depends on parents to support everything.(especially those family with low birth rate).Parents should create more cause for their children like using their pocket money for charity.
When we passed away, money can’t bring along so we must know how to make use of money to help those needed and make this world better.

Buddhism is truly an omniscient religion, where it can be applied by people of various level of understanding and acceptance. If Buddhism is being practiced accordingly, practitioners will benefit no matter which level one dwells in. At the minimum level, which Dr Alexander Berzin had graciously called it Dharma-lite, one can improve the condition of this life even though one has little or no understanding of Buddhist teachings especially on rebirth. Of course, Dharma-lite cannot represent the true essence of Buddhism because without the understanding or acceptance of rebirth, one will have no belief on the existence of the six realms, hence, unable to apprehend the concept of mind that transcend time. If one has no belief in rebirth, one may not be motivated to be liberated, consequently severely crippled the drive to be a Boddhisattva.

On the other hand, we are really fortunate and I am very thankful that Rinpoche had always emphasizes and teaches us the “Real Thing”. Rinpoche had given profound teachings on Karma, and our Mind on Youtube since many years ago. As a result we are not unfamiliar with the “Real Thing” and able to appreciate the importance of rebirth, karma and the working of our mind. Some of Rinpoche’s teaching on Karma and Mind e.g.

Looking through the photos and reading the caption underneath each photo are sheer joy because we get to witness Rinpoche’s loving kindness and generosity towards the Lamas and Sanghas in India. All the gift items are both practical and meaningful; for example: the supplements to the elderly and juniors, and the handphones to the secretariat and driver, and the English books and sutra for the community, as well as children book for the young monks. I hope more of us will be inspired to contribute to the Sangha community.

Thank You very much, Rinpoche, for sharing these wonderful photos. They are very inspiring.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Although he only became celebrated following his death, Paul Gaugin was regarded as an influential figure to many of modernism's biggest names, including Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin painted this piece during his first trip to Tahiti, where he had hoped to create "primitive" art. He then found a fondness for Tahitian women, painting many pictures of them. This particular painting, which had been on loan to the Kunstmuseum in Basel, was privately sold for a whopping $300 million in February last year. Happy discovery of the day: Khedrup Je was vegetarian! ---- "In Khedrup Je's commentary on The Three Vows, it is said that, on the whole, only the Bodhisattvas are required to abstain from meat. Therefore, all who have taken the vow of bodhichitta, whether they be monks, nuns, or lay people, must abstain from meat. For if Bodhisattvas, who have thus become an object of praise, eat meat, a strong desire for the taste of it will grow in them. As a result, their compassion will wane. Therefore the fully ordained, the shramaneras, kings, ministers, leaders, and lay people who practice the Mahayana should refrain from eating meat." (This was found and posted by Pastor Jean Ai)

Mr. Jamyang Norbu is a powerful Tibetan writer and blogger. He is one of the few people who tell the truth about the Tibetan Leadership and what happens within the Tibetan communities. It is a fact that if you disagree with Tibetan Leadership in Dharamsala on any issue, they get you ostracized and then perhaps the crowd against you. That could be dangerous. This is not pleasant but true. Recently with the Tibetan in exiled 'election' of the new Prime Minister, they did everything they can to get rid of Lukar Jam who wants corruption to end in Tibetan leadership and unite Tibetans regardless of their spiritual orientation. Indeed a rare breed. This is a excellent article to read..Again I am not interested in politics but this shows clearly how the CTA or Tibetan leadership accepts no opposition in their secular and religious decisons right or wrong..and how my choice of spirituality has brought me problems which should not happen in a real democracy. Since it's related I post here. So by all means take a look at how unethical Tibetan Leadership is through the eyes of a well known Tibetan writer: http://www.jamyangnorbu.com/blog/2015/11/13/election-by-divine-intervention/
