Thank you Pastor Han Nee for this review I bought this book on the advice of Pastor Tat Meng as I was guru hopping for quite sometime not knowing what’s guru devotion. I purchased this book at KP Sunway even though it was a browsing copy.
Rinpoche indepth explanation clearly define the objectives, repercussion and advice of this important step we take in defining our religious pursuit.
Pastor Adeline also advise me on the importance of lineage when seeking a guru, this important and pretty much overlooked aspect did not crossed my mind when I requested to be a disciple with my previous master. Upon acceptance by my previous master, vows were made as it is a prerequisite to discipleship. I mentioned to Pastor Adeline that I am keen to seek refuge in Rinpoche and ask her whether I am eligible knowing my predicament she advise me to seek blessings from my previous master to offically release me.
I went through several steps and measures to seek my previous master blessings and also request a official release letter and finally after about two months they officially requested back my discipleship card and release me as a disciple.
Though I have not been granted a refuge by Rinpoche up to this moment but I remembered he says that if my devotion is from my sincere heart it can be done by just with folded palms silently wish for a refuge at the altar.
Coming from a Hinanaya background whenever I do my prayers and meditation the first salutation I do is to seek refuge in Lord Buddha followed by his dhamma and sangha. Thank you, Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu

Everyone wants to be happy. I have never come across anyone who does not want to be happy. Being happy is a state of mind free of negative emotions. Hence it is very disturbing to read the bitter, vengeful and malicious comments by haters who come to His Eminence’s blog, Fanpage or Facebook. They hurl merciless insult to a high lama; i.e. His Eminence as well as Shugden practitioners just to be seen as pro-HHDL. Seriously, how could being the follower of a world renowned lama be so provocative and barbaric? And how these negative poisons e.g. ignorance, anger and hatred would help them on their spiritual path?

I am very grateful and extremely lucky to have met with His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche, who tirelessly instill in us impeccable good Dharma practice. He taught us to return hatred and anger with love and kindness. He taught us how to be happy. He taught us Buddha Dharma from pure lineage in a simplistic and humorous manner. He showed us how to cultivate compassion and focus out. Most importantly, He walked the talk.

Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Han Nee for this sharing.

Dwelling in a developing and fast moving city like KL, more and more of my female peers are singleton. Unlike in olden days where female depended largely on their partner or their maiden family for financial support, women today are financially independent. However, it is rather apparent that most of these ladies are not singleton by choice. Many were divorcee from problematic spouse while some missed their boat due to heart-broken history.

While it is human instinct to yearn for companion-ship, we must understand that our image of a relationship / marriage could be a delusion. The temporary pleasure and happy feeling lure our deluded mind into clinging on to the perishable happiness, thinking it will last forever, but it will not. It is the unmet expectation and strong attachment on the other person that causes our suffering.

As long as we are not attached to the person or the fleeting happiness, a relationship / marriage can be a positive injection in life. Especially if both share the same interest and values in life, each can be the pillar of strength and support for the other in both good and bad times.

Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

As Buddhist practitioner, we are aware of the existence of other beings who share the same dimension as us, who can not be seen by our naked eyes. We should be respectful of the other sentient beings who share this space with us, instead of summoning them to entertain us.

Like us, unseen beings that exist in the Six Realms of Existence are temporary and imperfect; they too are bound by desire and attachment that stem from ignorance. And given the condition they are in, they are likely to be malice and with the intention to harm.

So, why take the chances to engage in activities that could potentially summon a malevolent being, for example Zozo. Zozo comes across as a cunning and malice spirit waiting to strike a deal and possess the soul of whomever he engages with. Even though this is the first time I came across Zozo, but Ouiji Board and the terrifying consequences are not unheard of and certainly cannot be dismissed as urban legend.

Thank you Rinpoche and Vinnie for this sharing about Ouiji Board and info on Zozo. This is a good reminder that we should not engage in fun activities with unseen beings.

I am single so I love this article so much .Many people think that married is MUST in our life but I don’t think so. After I joined Kechara, dharma is higher priority than others. Single is more freedom to practice dharma rather than married or relationship with others.
Many single lady especially 40 year old above will get a title “leftover women” from society. This so rude and unfair to them.So called “Left over women” “is nothing wrong , they ability earn money and stay single and independent .
Single or married is just a label. Most important is we must practice more dharma work in this life to benefit others and get a liberation.
    Thanks Rinpoche for sharing this.

    With folded hands,

Interesting article on single and staying alone. They are more people who prefer to live alone now. We have seen more of this happening in developed and developing country. Some do it because they move from small town to big city to work. But generally I think people now prefer to have their own space, freedom and independence.

Our Guru, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Tulku Rinpoche received threats, insults and defamation daily from ignorant followers of the anti-Shugden movement. The ban on Dorje Shugden by the Tibetan leadership had caused harm and sufferings on Shugden practitioners. Here’s proof that shows without a doubt, despite continued denials by Tibetan authorities, that there is a ban on the practice. Violence, segregation and discrimination are used onto peaceful Shugden practitioners.

Funds, which are donated by Dalai Lama’s kind sponsor around the world without knowing the truth on how their money is being spent, are actively used by the Tibetan leadership to :
    1. Inflict fear on Shugden practitioners by confining of their own homes.
    2. The CTA permits violent and bloody invasions of private residences of Dorje Shugden practitioners e.g. the Thubten family and also private residences of erudite lama e.g. the 84 year old Gen. Chonze.
    3. Prohibit Dorje Shugden practitioners from entering Sera Monastery, South India.
    4. Dorje Shugden practitioners are prohibited from attending Dharma teachings by Dalai Lama.
    5. Publish a hit list of Shugden practitioners on the CTA’s website, inciting active persecution since the details of Shugden practitioners was made available publicly.
    6. Expel hundreds of Dorje Shugden monks from their monasteries for upholding the lineage passed on to them by their Gurus.
    7. Expose Shugden monks out in the open at the monastery; i.e. The Yellow Vote Stick policy.
    8. Force every member of monasteries within their jurisdiction to swear an oath to abandon all practices related to Dorje Shugden. If they do not, they must leave the monastery for good.
    9. Eradicate all Dorje Shugden images from temples, monasteries, Dharma centers and even private spaces. Statues, thangkas, tsatsas, prints and scripture… nothing was spared.
    10. Put up signs at public places i.e. monasteries and hospitals as well as private spaces like retail and grocery stores to disallow Dorje Shugden practitioners from entering.
    11. Deny Dorje Shugden practitioners access to medical assistance in public hospital.
    12. Revoke all legal documents of Tibetan Dorje Shugden practitioners i.e. their identity card, driver’s license or passport. This is akin of losing one’s identity and freedom.
    13. Allow physical attacks on Shugden’s practitioners, destroy their properties and loot their homes.

The voices of Tibetan people, especially the Shugden practitioners are muffled and ignored, while the CTA actively promotes unsubstantiated ranting of individuals and opinions of those who degrade Dorje Shugden. There is no religious freedom nor freedom of expression in the Tibetan community. CTA is committing blue murder as the fate of those who would go against the authorities would be faced with dangerous consequences. Yet the world stand tolerance because CTA operates all these fouls in the guise of Dalai Lama and his supremacy position within the Tibetan community.

This is inhumane and injustice. Please help to lift Dorje Shugden ban and end the sufferings and harms.

Thank you Rinpoche and Li Kheng for this article that provides a multitude of info on the unfair ban. I hope everyone who read it will do something to lift the ban.

I get shock with this articles about cannibalism. This James Jameson only think about own benefit (fascination on cannibalism and want experience in firsthand )and sacrifice a 10year old girl.
I can realize that how important of dharma for us to be compassion and benefit to every sentient beings.Jameson’s action is really created a bad karma to himself. This also can be applied to kill animals and serve it as our foods. We shall change our daily meals to vege meals.
Thanks Rimpoche for sharing this article which can inspire many people to become vegetarian.(myself not vegetarian yet but I’m eating much less meat compared with previous time).

This is the first time I come across a place called Prince Edward Island. With a populace of less than 200,000 people, it is a big deal to have such huge and beautiful Buddhist Retreat Centre built for the people there. I am even more impressed that so many people registered for the open day of the Retreat Centre. It is a clear sign that Buddhism is gaining popularity in the west. Rejoice for the people in Prince Edward Island. I hope that more people in Malaysia can come to appreciate Buddhsim and learn to make connections with the Buddha through the facilities in Kechara Forest Retreat.

Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this post.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing thing article. I agree that a lot of people mixed up secular and spiritual for each convenience.

Should a person choose a spiritual path then he or she should act in accordance to it. The ban and segregation in Tibet to those people who practice Dorje Shugden is not right. Every human has religious freedom and choice of practice. Dorje Shugden practitioners will continue their practice because it is given by their Guru. In Tibetan Buddhism it is very important not to break the samaya with Guru. So for those who do not agree with it then it is fine but they cannot harm the Shugden practitioners and even critised or discriminate them. I hope the ban on Shugden will be lifted soon and stop the sufferings of the practitioners.

What Am I Writing Now

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Such a wondrous place to be with such a view that heals the soul. Why live in a city where it is unnatural and polluted. Everyday in the city is a day away from where we belong. We belong among the greens, forest, mountains and clean air. We belong in such a place and doing our retreats, sadhanas and mantras to find the ultimate place of belonging and peace....the ultimate place is within us with a developed spiritual mind. Hard to achieve among distractions in the city.

When we see others who behave not according to our expectations and just to ‘get them back’ we throw all caution to the wind and we get angry, retaliate, fight back, scream, yell and then quit, it shows our mind. Everything is about our own mind. That is not to say they are not at fault. But if we want the world to act perfectly in our presence and then we don’t get angry, that is SO INCREDIBLE IDEALISTIC AND WE ARE DOOMED FROM THE START in anything we do. We have to keep our equilibrium always. Remember our vows, promises and our own state of mind. Be kind to ourselves and not let the other person throw us off because we have to be in control of our own minds. Remember, our mind and how it reacts is the key.--- H.E Tsem Rinpoche

All beings have feelings and do not want pain, to be hurt or harmed. Therefore we must respect this and not harm animals. See this video how this man has made good friends with a special fish who comes when he rings for the fish. Touching. Tsem Rinpoche

HH the Dalai Lama prays with HH Trijang Rinpoche and HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Such a beautiful video of His Holiness Dalai Lama, His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and His Holiness Dilgo Kyentse Rinpoche (Very exalted high Nyingma lama) are all praying together. In the background you see a young Kyabje Lati Rinpoche too. So beautiful. This is how it was before the ban. All the sects and high lamas were superbly harmonious. After the Dorje Shugden ban things changed for the worse. May the ban be released soon. Tsem Rinpoche

T asked: Is there a teaching to deal with insomnia and fatigue?
pastor answered: Dear T, Both insomnia and fatigue can be caused by a worried or stressed mind, if not from physical exhaustion. In this case, one needs to calm the mind and relax the body in order to ease insomnia and fatigue. There are many techniques that can help with this. I’ll mention two here. The first is mental quiescence meditation or single pointed concentration meditation. Even with this there are many methods you can use, but to make it simple, you can use the breath as your focus. This is known as breathing meditation. To practice this, sit in a quiet place either cross legged or in a chair if you prefer. And simply become aware of your breathing, concentrating on the space between your upper lip and your nose. Gently become aware of breathing in and out. If any thought comes into your mind, do not get carried away with the thought, but simply bring your focus back to your breathing and let the thought disappear by itself. There are other more advanced methods once you are familiar with breathing meditation, which can be found in texts such as Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand by Pabongka Rinpoche (Day 21), which concentrates on a visualised image of Buddha Shakyamuni instead of the breath. But one things to remember is that meditation can be difficult for people, so it is better to start with short sessions, not longer than 5-10 minutes at first. Gradually over time you will be able to increase this time frame. The key to meditation is to consistently engage in it every day. This shouldn’t be difficult because it is only 5-10 minutes long. The second is to engage in the Guru Yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa, concentrating on the recitation of the Mig Tse Ma mantra. This is an extremely beneficial practice as it invokes upon the energies and blessings of Lama Tsongkhapa, and helps to significantly calm the mind, even if we are not consciously aware how troubled our mind is. Concentrating on the mantra recitation also acts as focus for single pointed concentration as well. You can watch a commentary to this practice by His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche here: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/me/tsongkapas-daily-practice-video-commentary.html. If you are interested in this practice, there is a box set which can help you start the practice available here: http://www.vajrasecrets.com/tsongkhapa-boxset-english and a written commentary available here: http://www.vajrasecrets.com/tsongkhapa-a-simple-guide-to-a-powerful-practice. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Thori asked: Thanks for your answer. But when you say "This can be coupled with various visualisations during the mantra recitations as well."what visualisations should I do, for example for the sadhana "DISSOLVING JE RINPOCHE INTO OURSELVES"? Other question, can the Sadhana be recitated in english? Andn we must recite them with high voice or can it be recitated simply in the mind? Thanks!
pastor answered: Dear Thorim, For the visualisations of the Guru Yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa, during which you recite the Mig Tse Ma mantra, His Eminence 25th Tsem Rinpoche has given a very good commentary on the practice, available to watch here: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/me/tsongkapas-daily-practice-video-commentary.html The most common forms of visualisations for this practice can be found in the book ‘TSONGKHAPA – A Simple Guide to a Powerful Practice’ which is available at any Kechara Paradise outlet in Malaysia, or can be invited only here: http://www.vajrasecrets.com/tsongkhapa-a-simple-guide-to-a-powerful-practice. This includes the visualisations on gaining the Seven Wisdoms, as well as other visualisations. These visualisations are excellent, as they not only help a person achieve meditative stabilisation, but invoke the blessings and energy of Lama Tsongkhapa. As for the Sadhana, it does not need to be recited in Tibetan. It can be recited in English or any other language. In fact, I would suggest, as you start your practice that you recite in the language you are familiar with, as you will be able to understand the words and meaning of each verse clearer. Later on, if you want, you can start reciting in Tibetan. Sadhanas and especially mantras should be recited out aloud, but softly. Sadhanas and mantras are not recited in the mind, but spoken. For mantras as they are the form of the Buddhas in sound, they should be softly vocalised. I hope this helps.

Ming asked: Can we mix Han style vajrayana and tibetian vajrayana
pastor answered: Dear Ming, Thank you for your question. Traditionally it is advised that we do not mix traditions or even lineages. There is a very valid reason for this, if we mix traditions or lineages then we are in the danger of becoming confused in our practice. This occurs because each lineage or tradition explains the path of practice in different ways, suited to the practitioners of that particular tradition. For example, think of both as separate paths to the same destination. It would be better that we follow one and get to our destination, rather than keep switching between the two paths and perhaps get lost or take a very long time to reach the destination. Both paths have been tried and tested in their efficiency to achieve enlightenment. This is not to say that there is only one correct lineage, on the contrary, it is said that Buddha Shakyamuni taught 84,000 different methods to achieve enlightenment, as such both the Han style Vajrayana and Tibetan Vajrayana are both valid paths to enlightenment. However if we practice one of these methods and achieve results which is enlightened attainments it is better and more effective than practicing two or more and run the risk of confusing ourselves or our practices. I hope this helps.

pastor answered: Dear Chan, Thank you for informing us that the number for Venerable Chow is not in service. I have searched online and have not found a new number to contact Venerable Chow. I will make some inquiries and update here if I find a new contact number. Thank you for your offering to donate to her cause. http://www.tsemrinpoche.com http://www.dorjeshugden.org ~Cynthia Ng
