Dear friends,

I was on the blog chat last Friday September 21, 2012 and read about the Lamrim class taught by a Kechara pastor happening in the Gompa at the same time. I was very happy that the pastor was conducting the class as she is qualified because she walks the talk. I heard there were also a few new people in the class therefore I spontaneously decided to visit the class and to give a talk on the Lineage of the Lamrim. I gate-crashed..hehe…

My assistants and I did not inform anyone prior because I wanted it to be a surprise visit. While I was there I gave a short talk to the class on the Lineage of Lamrim which was also the topic of the class last night. I spoke about how Atisha was the founder of the Lamrim which later was compiled into easier reading by Lama Tsongkhapa who was the reincarnation of Atisha Himself.

The teaching on Friday was recorded by my assistant Pastor Loh Seng Piow. You can watch the video below this post. After the teaching, I blessed those who were present with Buddha images previously owned by my teachers, a Vajrayogini tsatsa and a small Shakyamuni Buddha statue . The Vajrayogini tsatsa was given to me by one of my teachers, Geshe Yunden Gyatso who I often visited to receive teachings from when I was in Howell, New Jersey. And the Shakyamuni Buddha was previously owned by my teacher Geshe Tsultrim Gyeltsen. So these images are very holy. I wanted to place them on the heads of everyone as they can be blessed by these holy images.

After the blessings, I gave out some Dharma gifts to the new people in class as well as a few young people who were there last night. Some of the gifts I gave out were greetings cards made and modeled in-house by our talented Kecharians, The Promise which is my pictorial biography, Lord Tsongkhapa’s tsatsas and beautiful Buddha pendants made by Kechara Discovery. Some were designed by me and some by my Liaison, Paul Yap. The nicer ones were designed by me…hehe..just kidding.

All in all, it was a great night at the Lamrim class. I was very happy to meet all those who were present and gave the teaching to them. I will make more suprise visits to classes and pujas…so I might see you there… Now that they know the lineage of the Lamrim, I hope very much everyone will study well and be great teachers of the Lamrim in the future. It is very blessed to be able to share the Lamrim teachings with our family and friends.

The floor was open for questions. There were very good questions asked that day

Over here I was blessing everyone with the two sacred Buddha images I have

Here I was blessing Mdm Lim Han Nee, a senior member of Kechara

This is Beng Kooi’s father, Mr Ooi

Both Lew and Wei Theng are very devoted to Kechara. They are the power couple working in E-division

I gave out some gifts to the new people who attended Lamrim class

I was showing everyone the greeting cards we made in house!

Dedication to end the night

  5. Wan Wai Meng on Dec 6, 2013 at 8:27 pm

As students of the Je Tsongkhapa tradition we must let everyone know about the greatness of the the Lamrim. Not act in a haughty manner that we have the best system and best literature type of attitude, but more to let people to let people know the how amazing the Lamrim truly is. That we had the top dharma scholars the peerless Lama Atisha and the Second Buddha Lama Tsongkhapa who put the Lamrim and made commentaries to it. The Lamrim is so so great because it contains all instructions necessary for us to be enlightened. If there was no Lamrim for us to have a complete path towards enlightenment we would have to read thousands of sutras and figure which sequence is which.

The Lamrim is there for us in its complete form, all we need to do is to study it, how fortunate we are in our time.

  6. Sean Wang on Dec 2, 2013 at 9:53 pm

Thank goodness Rinpoche has a blog, or else wonderful teachings like this would be unavailable for the world. Studying the Lam Rim is the path to Enlightenment. We will learn what Samsara truly is and how to leave Samsara.

Rejoice to all of the participants.

I had attended the monthly Lamrim recitation for a few times. Before i attend, i thought that Lamrim is a book that is very difficult to understand. After i attend the Lamrim recitation, i found that the content is interesting.

I have a copy of chinese Lamrim too. Hope that i can understand the whole book in the future.

    Thank Rinpoche for the sharing.

I’m grateful to know the simple fact that lamrim teachings are the basis upon which the rest is built. They also made it clear that if anything was overlooked in the lamrim teachings it may show up later if a higher endeavor falls like the proverbial ‘house of cards’. Painfully true, perhaps but very helpful to know.

We always learn something new from Rinpoche even though we have been taught the subject before from Rinpoche in the past. It is never the same because Rinpoche caters to the now at the moment of time, the audience presents’ mind set and level. Hence each time, a teaching is tailored to suite the overall people’s mind set that is receiving the teaching at that time.

I think why Rinpoche teaches so well because Rinpoche is speaking through experience or some kind of realisation, it is kinda like His Holiness Pabongkha Rinpoche who taught the Lamrim to thousands of people in the audience and many people could understand from many different levels of perception! Read more on HH Pabongka Rinpoche here http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/h-h-kyabje-pabongka-rinpoche-1878%E2%80%931941.html

We are definitely so lucky to have a qualified Guru with us to expound the teachings and explain to us so that we can understand even more… this is the beauty of Vajrayana Buddhism in having a Guru. I think it would have been much more difficult and slower for us to understand if we did not have a Guru whom we can explain to us, answer questions and speed up our practice! Thank you Rinpoche for teaching for without it we would be groping in the dark!

In order for us to fully understand the contents of the Lamrin, there is no other way thaj to incorporate the teachings into our daily lives. When we see positive results from practising dharma and how the positive change in us have help or inspire others, we would want to do more and learn more about dharma Thank you Rinpoche for the wonderful teachings on the lineages of Lamrin.

Jay Jae is akin to the modern day LamaAtisha in bringing dharma to a neighbouring country that only thrive on materialism and wealth. Jay Jae loves Rinpoche very much and he always told us how much he wanted to be with Rinpoche to serve Rinpoche instead of staying in Singapore. But due to his devotion to Rinpoche, he stepped out of his comfort zone and set up a center in Singapore. Within months, the center has shifted to a bigger premise to accomodate more people. What a surprise for so many of us that Rinpoche came to the class. Pretty sure the newbies were in awe to be in the presence and receive direct teachings from Rinpoche, the new people also receievd dharma gifts to encourage them on their way.

  20. KH Ng on Oct 1, 2012 at 2:18 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

What a pleasant surprise and I rejoice in the visit and the Dharma talk. Amazingly, Rinpoche just continued with where Pastor Susan stopped on the Day 2 of the Lamrim about Atisha a gave a very clear and profound “Lamrim Class” of this topic. I do not know if it is a coincident or not, but Day 2 of Lamrim is where the first heading “The Greatness of the Author” is. In essence, Rinpoche just blessed all of us from the first heading of the Lamrim. A very auspicious beginning. Thank You Rinpoche.

I will use the Dharma to rid myself and others of the 3 poisons as per instructed in the “The Actual way to listen to the Dharma” heading in the Lamrim.

  21. Lim Han Nee on Sep 28, 2012 at 3:08 pm

When Rinpoche was explaining how brave and compassionate Atisha was to be willing to hazard so much to go and spread the Dharma to the Tibetans who were barbarians, it made me reflect on how equally brave and compassionate Rinpoche was to accept his Guru’s advice to come and spread the Dharma in Malaysia. Like the Tibetans in Atisha’s days, we , Malaysians, do not have a propensity or inclination for Dharma. In fact, in our ‘ignorance’ and delusion, we feel that Dharma is so binding and , like a chain and a millstone around the neck, robbing us of our freedom to pursue the things we love in this life. We are so mired in our delusions and delusory pursuits and so ignorant what is real peace and happiness that we are spiritually, ‘barbarians’ too.

  22. Lim Han Nee on Sep 28, 2012 at 11:37 am

Rinpoche’s surprise visit and teaching on the Lamrim Lineage was a stupendous experience. Pastor Susan had earlier already set us on the course of trying to appreciate the greatness of Atisha, even at a young age.

Rinpoche clearly elucidated the authentic Lamrim Lineage from Buddha Shakyamuni, through Atisha( and later Lama Tsongkapa, who was actually an emanation of Atisha) to Pabongka Rinpoche and then to Trijang Rinpoche, Zong Rinpoche, and Tsem Rinpoche(our Guru), and then to us.

Rinpoche explained how compassionate, brave and heroic Atisha was to decide to go to Tibet. For one thing, the journey to Tibet was most arduous and dangerous from the physical point of view and also because of wars between rival states in Tibet. Atisha chose hardship to go to Tibet (because on top of this arduous and dangerous journey, Tara told Atisha, he would have to endure great hardship to spread the Dharma in Tibet, a lawless place, whose people were barbaric) over an easy life, if he were to stay back in India. This choice was made because this great Bodhisattva was told, by Tara, that despite his life being shortened by twelve years, he would cause the Dharma teachings, including tantric teachings ,to spread widely and many Bodhisattvas, monks and great Masters would result from this.

In Tibet, Atisha composed the great classic and masterpiece, Lamp of the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, the authentic Lamrim. Later Lama Tsongkapa wrote the commentary The Lamrim Chenmo. Years later Pabongka Rinpoche gave the legendary teachings on the Lamrim, Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand.

We must have tremendous merits to be studying this authentic Lineage teachings, which contains all of Lord Buddha’s 84000 teachings!1

    Dear Rinpoche,
Thank Buddha for your blog and youtube because we get to watch your teachings at any time and any place when I just have a laptop and computer. I will never tire from listening to Rinpoche even if its the same story. Rinpoche has a way of telling stories that keeps the listener enthralled.

I think Rinpoche is so good because you have a natural way of telling stories that is meant to implant a certain blessing and impression upon us. Even the flow of the teachings has the ability to hold people’s attention span for hours on end. All in all, I enjoyed and learned quite a bit from these talks.

    • DR on Sep 29, 2012 at 11:55 pm

Yes you are so right to say that you are never tired of listening to Rinpoche even if its the same story. I read in one dharma text that even if you attend the same dharma discourse over and over again, you may not hear anything new BUT you may understand something new. And then you can apply that new knowledge.

Rinpoche made a surprise visit to Friday’s Lamrim class. We have a bonus extended teaching on Atisha travel from India to Tibet, blessing of a Lama’s mandala, and benefits of supporting and sponsoring temples, statues and the Sanghas 🙂 Rinpoche told very nice story and gave a very good explanation on learning and practicing Dharma on many levels. 🙂

  25. May Ong on Sep 27, 2012 at 3:22 pm

Studying the Lamrim gave me a number of insights:
Knowledge inside this book help us realize what ‘samsara’ or our world had always been, help us see the reality of how things work on earth for all sentient beings. After helping us identify these ‘problems’.

Then the book introduces us to ‘how we can learn to reduce these problems’ using different methods. It is like showing us the entrance to the ‘door’ of the rightful path.

Then the book will walk us through that path. At some point, it tells us we can take a rest to reflect upon our own experiences and think deeper about them. Somehow it keep on relating back to the knowledge studied inside Lamrim.

It is so mind boggling to realize that knowledge inside the Lamrim is so powerful to help us attain happiness in us for now and for our future.

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing Atisha’s Biography. Without masters like Atisha and teachers like you to teach, we will not have the opportunity to realize happiness.

***The Advantages of Propitiating Dorje Shugden: Part 1***

According to His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden is a fully enlightened Buddha who appears in the form of a worldly god so that beings in this era can access his blessings quicker and more powerfully.

Dorje Shugden is also known as the Protector of our time because, apart from guiding Buddhist practitioners on their path to Enlightenment, he also attends to our daily challenges and obstacles. Dorje Shugden does this not because he is a fulfiller of samsaric wishes but because in his omniscience, Dorje Shugden recognises that the human mind becomes distracted from Dharma practice by mundane problems. Hence alleviating our worries and fulfilling our wishes is just a means by which Dorje Shugden helps practitioners achieve the higher objective, i.e. a flourishing Dharma practice.

The problems that people of our time encounter are common everywhere we go and they include:

    1) Financial problems
    2) Illnesses and diseases
    3) Natural disasters and epidemics
    4) Stres and depression
    5) Violent crimes and wars
    6) Loss of purpose and direction

***The Advantages of Propitiating Dorje Shugden: Part 2***

The Dharma Protector’s role is to ensure that practitioners have uninhibited access to the teachings, the clarity to understand the principles and meanings, and suitable conditions to apply what they have learned. And so, for the practitioner, the Dharma Protector functions to avert inner and outer obstacles the practitioner may encounter, and where necessary, provide conditions and resources for the practitioner’s Dharma journey to be smooth and unobstructed.

Scary to know what exactly happened to Angel during her waking from sleep.Watched the video, wondering its sleep paralysis or the unseen beings pressing on her. This weird phenomenon as explained by Rinpoche is that she was karmically connected with the unseen beings.I do believe the unseen beings do exists after all, I am glad Angel is back to her own self , its over now.

Sleep paralysis whether is science or paranormal. From what i read and hear to me its more paranormal as i do believe in unseen beings do exist after all. Sleep paralysis is more likely to be caused by paranormal distinct existence. I have not experience one before but at least i know now what i can do if it happen to me after reading this post. There are many other methods to protect ourselves just in case, like reciting our powerful mantra of Dorje Shugden( OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA ) .

    Interesting read from Tsemrinpoche.com

    Energy Channels
This vital life force or chi, is composed of two kinds of forces, yin and yang, and flows along a sophisticated network of energy pathways, or highways, circuiting the body. Over 2000 years ago ancient cultures knew of the existence of these energy channels. They were called ‘sen’ in Thailand, ‘nadis’ in India, ‘meridians’, ‘channels’ or ‘vessels’ in China and Japan, and ‘channels’ in Tibet. In India, where many eastern healing arts developed, there were said to be 72,000 nadis or energy pathways. Disease is believed to be a blockage in the energy flow of these channels. A range of healing traditions, including acupuncture, acupressure, massage and yoga, are founded on the principle of the existence of energy channels or pathways, known as meridians, or nadis, running around the body in an expansive network.

    (REPLY FOR BEN)
For Pastor Shin – Are pujas more effective than prayers?

Pujas are more comprehensive as they involve rituals and prayers. In other words, prayers are part of a puja. Each puja is done based on scriptural texts and methods passed down by the lineage masters, which invokes the blessings of Buddhas/ meditational deities. Apart from recitation of mantras and meditation, ritual cakes (tormas) and other offerings are also done for pujas.

You can read more about pujas here:

Fully enlightened beings can manifest in whatever form they so choose in order to benefit sentient beings. Buddhas can manifest in the form of a Lama, a spiritual friend and even in the form of sound, which are called mantras. In essence mantras are the holy energies of the Buddhas in the form of sound. Reciting mantras of the Buddhas, meditational deities (Yidams) and Dharma Protectors therefore invokes their blessings to bring about a beneficial impact in our lives.

Very touching……. i do enjoyed watching those videos.
So courage of John Byrne the homeless man to jump into the ice cold water to safe his pet rabbit. What he did was indeed incredible .His love and compassion for his pet rabbit and dog is an example, inspiration to us .
Even though he is homeless yet he care and love his pet rabbit and dog so much giving food by begging.
The man Gary Kearney who threw the pet rabbit was sentenced to four months detention. It show that the law do not tolerate cruelty to animals. A lesson to learn from here is to love.care and compassion to all sentient beings whatever happen to them.Never abused them.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing and i have shared with my friends too.

**The Three Bodies of a Buddha**

The primary manifestation of a fully enlightened being is called the Dharmakaya. “Dharma” means phenomenon, while “kaya” means body. Therefore, Dharmakaya refers to the primordial or true nature of phenomena which is beyond conceptual and dualistic thought. This manifestation is essentially the mind of a fully enlightened being, beyond appearance and sensory perception. This mind knows no limits or boundaries… more: http://www.dorjeshugden.org/blog/the-three-bodies-of-a-buddha

By understanding Dorje Shugden’s enlightened nature, we realise that relying on him cannot lead us anywhere except for Enlightenment. Reciting any praise of Dorje Shugden on a daily basis reminds us of his attainments, and the type of being we are propitiating. It also serves as a reminder of the qualities we can attain as a result of relying on him, that his practice will help us to attain common and uncommon siddhis.

Incense has been used as a traditional substance for offering since the birth of Buddhism. The first recorded instance of incense being used occurs in the story of Magadha Sangmo, whose impact can be seen across the ancient Buddhist world. The daughter of Suddatta, a layman and the Buddha’s primary patron, she herself was an ardent student of Buddha Shakyamuni. After marrying, she longed to see her Guru, the Buddha and offer dana. Climbing to the roof of her in-law’s house, she offered incense and a verse of invocation. The omniscient Buddha heard her prayers and arrived with his entire entourage, descending from the sky on a lion to fulfil her request.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Pick the practice, devotion and precepts of Vajra Yogini\'s path over everything and anything in samsara. Samsara has nothing of value and nothing lasting to offer. You are born in suffering, live in suffering, die in suffering and enter bardo and future lives expecting more sufferings. This is not a negative way of looking at things but the truth. If the truth is negative, so it is the truth. Devote oneself to the guru, dharma work, dharma practice and bringing dharma to others compassionately. Choose to practice Vajra Yogini now with the preliminaries. You can start right now: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/inspiration-worthy-words/starting-on-vajra-yogini-now.html Much care, Tsem Rinpoche

Wow this meditator in his cave in front of a painting of Yamantaka draped with a white khata of respect. He sits among bones to remind him of impermanence and our future. The bones inspire him strongly to let go of all attachments in this life and focus on dharma, meditation and liberation and he is doing so. Very beautiful and inspirational. Tsem Rinpoche

Previous lives do resemble current lives especially if they are a recognized incarnation. If notice how similar the previous and current Trijang Rinpoche looks. The eyes, bone structure, expression, long neck, thin and overall look. Beautiful. I\'ve seen this phenomena over and over in many Rinpoche incarnations. Especially when you compare them with pictures of previous and current lives at around the same ages. Something powerfully karmic about this. Tsem Rinpoche

Beautiful! His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang has always been good friends with His Holiness Karmapa. No wonder H.H. Karmapa never spoke against Dorje Shugden. Two reasons perhaps: One is he knows the qualities of Trijang Rinpoche who is a attained being. And Karmapa himself has clairvoyance to perceive the true nature of Dorje Shugden directly. I love to see great beings like this manifesting closeness. When I see, I just want to prostrate to them and thank them for sharing such good examples to someone like me. Praise to the ego-less mind! All Dorje Shugden prophesizes will come to pass,
Those who generate refuge and merits will trust,
By trusting one will see the good results of his pronouncements,
By seeing the good results, one\'s path becomes more clear,
The path of practice, purification and siddhic results,
This would eliminate the samsara within our minds.

It use to be that way in the great monasteries. We should not create problems and schisms. If we want to practice a protector, then do so, if not it's okay, but don't make trouble. One should just practice the Buddha Dharma well. To do good practice. If you have faith in Dorje Shugden and trust all the way, he will definitely help you. But most important is to practice the dharma. This is his advice in short here. It's good to let more Tibetans hear this holy speech and appeal by this very senior Rinpoche. TR

This was on FB and I came across it. His Holiness said in Tibetan institutions there is a lot of propitiating protector/oracles and this is not what Buddhism is about. So they are putting Nechung/Tema oracles within the video to say what is he talking about when he does it himself. This is confusing is the message to his people. TR
