Calling Upon the Divine

How Dorje Shugden helped in the time of need…

There may be many lay spiritual practitioners who are embarrassed to admit that the main reason for their practice in the first place is something personal and which can be classed as self-cherishing. If one is able to hear the silent prayers to the divine (of any religion), they are usually relating to ‘I want this, I want that, I don’t want this, I don’t want that, etc.’

My family is no exception. One summer, we were travelling and our son needed his passport renewed.  Three weeks before his passport expired, we applied to the embassy and there was a problem as the embassy needed further documentation which we were unable to get in less than four days.

In a panic, we contacted our son’s godfather who knows the embassy head quite well.  He called a few times but was unable to get through and left messages but with no reply.

So this was like two days before we had to travel and it looked like our son had to cancel his trip.  In the meantime, we did our King Protector, Dorje Shugden puja and requested the Protector to assist in this matter.

Our son’s godfather happened to drop a friend off at the airport the evening after our puja and at the check in desk, someone patted him on his back. He turned around and couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the embassy head.

The next day he took our son to see the embassy head and his passport was renewed without a hitch and he managed to join the family on our annual holiday.

This may be a coincidence, but us, we have no doubt our Protector had come to our aid.

It turns out our family trip was to be an auspicious one as we had an audience with the King Protector and his Chief Minister Karche Marpo (together with some 700 odd people) in Kechara Forest Retreat in Bentong, Pahang.

For 20 years, the Tibetan leadership attacked the integrity of the Dorje Shugden practice in a prolonged attempt to discredit it. However recent comments such as that left by ‘Suzy in Hawaii’ on Rinpoche’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl-4lIwxph4&t=11s) indicate that the public is now becoming aware of the truth about the Protector and the benefits of the practice.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

    HUM
Though unmoving from the sphere of primordial spontaneity,
With wrathful turbulent power, swifter than lightning,
Endowed with heroic courage to judge good and bad,
I invite you with faith, please come to this place!

Robes of a monk, crown adorned with rhinoceros leather hat,
Right hand holds ornate club, left holds a human heart,
Riding various mounts such as nagas and garudas,
Who subdues the mamos of the charnel grounds, praise to you!

Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!

Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!
Bring increase like the waxing moon in spiritual and temporal realms!

    Moreover, swiftly accomplishing all wishes,
According to our prayers, bestow the supreme effortlessly!
And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels!

    Dear Keng Nam,

Thank you for sharing on this real example of how Dorje Shugden will help us in the time of need when we sincerely call for His help and assistance in our Dharma and spiritual practice as well as worldly problems.

Indeed, through the compassion of our kind Guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, we were able to have an audience with the King Protector Dorje Shugden and His Chief Minister Kache Marpo together with other 700 people in Kechara Forest Retreat in Bentong, Pahang on June 21st 2015. All of us were blessed by Dorje Shugden and Kache Marpo to clear our obstacles and provide conducive environment to practise Dharma.

Thanks for being a wonderful Dharma brother.

Dorje Shudgen can help families and people overcome all their difficulties.

  5. Pastor Moh Mei on Feb 22, 2016 at 8:05 pm

We often pray, make promises, even swear to some higher beings when we are desperate. Indeed, prayers are often to request something to happen or not to happen. Even non believers do this sometimes, praying to “the power that be” or whichever gods that would listen.

I don’t consider myself a religious person but yet I too often say these prayers, calling upon higher divine beings. Mostly I prefer to think that things happen or not happen because of karma and not divine intervention. It is not because I do not believe they are higher divine beings, I’m sure they are. I know of many people who put their faith and trust 100% in divine beings answering their prayers.

We cannot escape the duality of samsara. Hope can result in disappointment and pain but give someone hope and they can achieve a better life too. Religions give hope that there is some meaning to our life, our existence. That there is something better waiting for us after death. That is also hope.

  6. Uncle Eddie on Jan 28, 2016 at 8:03 am

Heightened feelings triggered by minor changes of disappointment could seem overwhelming. Whatsoever, luckily, you have the good faith to perform the minimum; i.e. to make offerings to Dorje Shugden for a sadhana to help you, and be able to realise the good results to more than your satisfactions. It is indeed a good happy ending for you and your family, Keng Nam, for being spiritual and so faithfully believing in calling upon the “Divine” to help. Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

Thank you Keng Nam for sharing your story with us. Dorje Shugden helps us in so many varied ways, it’s almost impossible to recount. The incredible thing is that he helps us in body, speech and mind, and his advice to us is always Dharma.

His advice to us is never for us to worship him more or to make more offerings to him, or anything like that. His advice to us is always Dharma in nature and for me, I love and trust him for that because:

    1) when we practise and apply the Dharma we have learned, our secular problems are automatically resolved, not just because of ‘miraculous’ interventions but because our perspective and attitude to these challenges has changed

    2) Dharma is the ultimate protection for us. When we understand the Dharma, we learn how to create less negative karma for ourselves by acting in ways in accordance to the Dharma. So to me, Dorje Shugden’s advice becomes very complete because following his advice doesn’t just resolve our problems in this life, but also creates the causes for us to have fewer problems in our future lives!

When we are about to meet a holy being (as you were), or we intend to engage in Dharmic activities, our negative karma manifests as obstacles to try and prevent us from engaging in such virtuous activities. That is why purification practices are so important, because we have accumulated immeasurable negative karma for countless lifetimes. I always think of it this way – if purification practices are good enough for the high lamas who are one with their yidams, who am I, a lowly practitioner to not engage in them myself? Ultimately, the only person who benefits is me, when fewer obstacles in my practice manifest to stop me.

  8. freon on Jan 20, 2016 at 11:01 pm

Hi, Keng Nam for sharing this wonderful story.

To me, it is not a coincident. Dorje Shugden will manifest fast action to help those who are in needs.

I like the 1st paragraph on if we can hear what normally peoples are praying to Buddha it is all about ourself and the desire we needed Buddha to fulfilled for us. But, we never think of how we can be Buddha to helps those in needs. Or, if we hear peoples asking for helps or needs helps we would just run away. Is ironic to think that during prayer we take refuge to Three Jewels and generate Bodhichitta.
If I remember clearly that Rinpoche once said before, when we take refuge to 3 Jewels is actually telling Three Jewels that we are ready to helps others. This paragraph by Keng Nam has reminded me on my refuge purpose.

    Thank you Keng Nam

You are right, Keng Nam, no doubt about all our secretly hidden agendas when we propitiate any form of divine beings, it is all for our silly mundane wishes. When we are granted such wishes then our faith builds to the level that we just pray with thanksgiving.

How much the Buddhas have to tolerate our ignorance. How compassionate and merciful.

  10. KB Thapa on Jan 16, 2016 at 9:50 pm

These days, however, we do not have such karma, and so Buddha appears to us in the form of our Spiritual Guide and helps us by giving teachings and leading us on spiritual paths. thanks to Rinpoche who has kindly introduced us to pwowefull protector Dorje Shugden and we are able to do his practice..

Thank you uncle Keng Nam for sharing your story with us, Lord Dorje Shugden is certainly no other than a compassionate Buddha. He has helped my family and myself during the times when we needed assistance the most.

I almost lost my mother when I was about 7 or 8 years old, she had an ectopic pregnancy and by the time she was admitted into the hospital, she had severe internal bleeding and even the doctor had said she might not make it. Before her operation, she described that she had already started having some hallucinations, the vision was getting blurry and as like the people were floating in the air. Her hearing started to deteriorate and couldn’t listen clearly, then her tongue had become numb where she could no longer speak. It was my first time knowing the process of dying, I can imagine that it’s quite terrifying. But due to Dorje Shugden and H.E Tsem Rinpoche’s blessings, my mother’s operation was a successful one and even the doctors were amazed.

I am very certain that if it wasn’t because of H.E Tsem Rinpoche and the protector, my mom wouldn’t have made it. This is just one of the blessings that have been bestowed upon us, there are many more miracle stories like this. I’m forever grateful of my guru and protector, Dorje Shugden.

  13. Pastor Shin on Jan 13, 2016 at 5:13 pm

Thank you Keng Nam for sharing your experience. Through the years, I have seen and heard from many how Dharmapala Dorje Shugden had helped them, from cancer recovery to being protected while being involved in a major accident.

The main function of a Dharma Protector is to help avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent spiritual practitioners from attaining spiritual realisations, as well as to foster the necessary conditions for their practice. In this case, I rejoice that your family, especially your son had an an audience with the King Protector and his Chief Minister Karche Marpo in Wisdom Hall after the obstacle of the passport renewal was settled.

The 7th Panglung Oracle (or Chojela, as we affectionately call him) underwent training from His Holiness Trijang Rinpoche and His Holiness Domo Geshe Rinpoche for years in meditations, practice, retreats, prostrations, purifications and many rituals to prepare his body. We are indeed very fortunate to have been in his and the Protectors’ presence.

His father, the previous Panglung Kuten was also a very famous oracle and was the very oracle that was consulted by the representatives/ Gurus of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama who gave His Holiness the answer and guaranteed protection for Him to leave Tibet.

The current Panglung Kuten has all the hallmarks of a great practitioner and humble too. It is revealed in this oracle’s previous life, he was a great Geshe of the highest caliber serving the Buddha-dharma and these great protectors also.

I rejoice in reading Mr. Tan’s story of how our Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden, had assisted him and his family. It may seemed mundane and worldly in the eyes of many. Yet it is good to think that as normal human beings, we are bound to face many troubles that not only hinder us from our spiritual practice but could be a distraction for us to be in touch with enlightened beings . Therefore, we must have faith in our Dharma Protector, and pray consistently to Him. He will assist us in times of need in ways that we could not imagine.

Thank You Rinpoche for sharing Dorje Shugden’s practice and teaching with us so that we can benefit from this benevolent enlightened being.

    Humbly, bowing down,
    Stella Cheang

Rejoice Mitra in his endeavours to use his own language to give dharma teachings and introduce Dorje Shugden to his Nepali friends, helped to install a Dorje Shugden statue in their work hall. This is wonderful and may his good aspirations come true i.e. to spread the dharma with his own language by doing more and serving the Nepali communities.

Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing and I shall be more compassion to everyone and keep this in mind:
We need to take the time to teach everyone dharma, prayers and give them hope at their level.
No one who wishes to learn dharma should be left out.

Thats it nothing more.

Looking at those few photos i could imagine ,those chickens had suffered
so much pain,is the consumption of battery farmed eggs. Its good to be on vegetarian so as to less killing of live stocks and eggs onto our plates The egg industry hides its practices, no one knows about the cruelty till they saw it with own eyes and that many people might think twice of eating farmed eggs. The hens were crammed in small dirty cages… so sick and exhausted.

Thank you for this wonderful write up about communal living with the Dharma family members. It makes complete sense to get to know the people whom we work closely with both during and after working hours. It is essential to understand their thinking process and mannerism to cut down any unnecessary misunderstanding; and better still, capitalize on each others’ strength for better results. It also makes “work” less stressful. This is totally THE thing for the people who has no huge family commitments. This article also gives me a glimpse into Rinpoche’s vision of creating a community living. Fast forward 7 years, Rinpoche’s vision is manifesting as Kechara Forest Retreat! Rejoice!

    ***Tashi Lhunpo Monastery***

Located in Shigatse, the 2nd largest city of Tibet, Tashi Lunpo is a beautiful Tibetan Buddhist Gelugpa lineage monastery that continues to practice Dorje Shugden without discrimination!
Founded by the 1st Dalai Lama Gyalwa Gendun Drup in 1447. It is one of the six big monasteries of the Gelugpa lineage, it covers almost 300,000 square meters (3,229,279 sq. ft.). Since the 4th Panchen Lama took over as the head of the monastery, Tashi Lhunpo has been the seat of all Panchen Lamas up until this day… http://www.dorjeshugden.org/temples/tashi-lhunpo-monastery

How Tibetan leadership treats a sponsor (jindak)

As a kid, all of us (both Rinpoche and my family) had very little personal funds. We didn’t even have enough to have a Dharma centre, so Rinpoche would give Dharma teachings in various people’s houses. A portion of the funds raised would always be redirected to the monasteries for whatever requests they had made. So much pain and torturing inflicted on the poor animals to satisfy our demand for eggs. I hope this article creates the awareness for all of us to rethink our diet and find alternatives to replace eggs. Getting free range eggs or “kampung” eggs is a slightly better idea as long as we are assured that the farm that produces these eggs provide the free range / “kampung” condition for the chicken. The best idea is to omit egg from our diet completely. Thank you, Rinpoche for this sharing.

The importance of Fasting Buddha is to remind us that there will be much difficulties in the process to enlightenment and we must overcome them before we can finally achieve success. Fortitude and diligence are the accessories to overcoming the difficulties. It took Buddha six years of hardship and extreme fasting to gain realization on the “Middle Way”, what more for clowns like us? Thank you, Rinpoche for this teaching.

    ***The Blessings of the Guru***

Guru devotion and clean samaya with one’s Guru are commonly recognised and emphasised as the foundation of Dharma study and practice in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. From the legendary Padmasambhava of the Nyingma lineage to the revered mahasiddhas Milarepa and Naropa of the Kagyu tradition, to the great Pabongka Rinpoche of the Gelugpa lineage of practitioners; Guru devotion is undisputedly the common and fundamental element for any Dharma realisation, attainment and ultimately Enlightenment… more>> http://www.dorjeshugden.org/blog/the-blessings-of-the-guru

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

I am in the process of creating beautiful Dorje Shugden and Kechara Forest Retreat watches at this time. So we can take precious protector and Kechara Forest Retreat wherever we go and be blessed everytime we see what time it is.
I am perfecting the designs with a great team and will update when done but these are just some samples that arrived.

Pick the practice, devotion and precepts of Vajra Yogini\'s path over everything and anything in samsara. Samsara has nothing of value and nothing lasting to offer. You are born in suffering, live in suffering, die in suffering and enter bardo and future lives expecting more sufferings. This is not a negative way of looking at things but the truth. If the truth is negative, so it is the truth. Devote oneself to the guru, dharma work, dharma practice and bringing dharma to others compassionately. Choose to practice Vajra Yogini now with the preliminaries. You can start right now: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/inspiration-worthy-words/starting-on-vajra-yogini-now.html Much care, Tsem Rinpoche

Wow this meditator in his cave in front of a painting of Yamantaka draped with a white khata of respect. He sits among bones to remind him of impermanence and our future. The bones inspire him strongly to let go of all attachments in this life and focus on dharma, meditation and liberation and he is doing so. Very beautiful and inspirational. Tsem Rinpoche

Previous lives do resemble current lives especially if they are a recognized incarnation. If notice how similar the previous and current Trijang Rinpoche looks. The eyes, bone structure, expression, long neck, thin and overall look. Beautiful. I\'ve seen this phenomena over and over in many Rinpoche incarnations. Especially when you compare them with pictures of previous and current lives at around the same ages. Something powerfully karmic about this. Tsem Rinpoche

Beautiful! His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang has always been good friends with His Holiness Karmapa. No wonder H.H. Karmapa never spoke against Dorje Shugden. Two reasons perhaps: One is he knows the qualities of Trijang Rinpoche who is a attained being. And Karmapa himself has clairvoyance to perceive the true nature of Dorje Shugden directly. I love to see great beings like this manifesting closeness. When I see, I just want to prostrate to them and thank them for sharing such good examples to someone like me. Praise to the ego-less mind! All Dorje Shugden prophesizes will come to pass,
Those who generate refuge and merits will trust,
By trusting one will see the good results of his pronouncements,
By seeing the good results, one\'s path becomes more clear,
The path of practice, purification and siddhic results,
This would eliminate the samsara within our minds.

Kyabje Denma Gonsa Rinpoche telling people that it is important to have guru samaya. It use to be that way in the great monasteries. We should not create problems and schisms. If we want to practice a protector, then do so, if not it's okay, but don't make trouble. One should just practice the Buddha Dharma well. To do good practice. If you have faith in Dorje Shugden and trust all the way, he will definitely help you. But most important is to practice the dharma. This is his advice in short here. It's good to let more Tibetans hear this holy speech and appeal by this very senior Rinpoche. TR

This was on FB and I came across it. His Holiness said in Tibetan institutions there is a lot of propitiating protector/oracles and this is not what Buddhism is about. So they are putting Nechung/Tema oracles within the video to say what is he talking about when he does it himself. This is confusing is the message to his people. TR
