Dear friends around the world,

On December 25, 2016, Kechara had the great merits and privilege to offer an official place of residence to the oracle of Dorje Shugden, His Eminence the 7th Panglung Kuten Thubten Phelgye Jigme Namgyal, affectionately known as Choje-la.

This residence is called Panglung Ritroe in commemoration of the original Panglung Ritroe in Lhasa, Tibet which was home to the Panglung Rinpoches and the lineage of the Panglung oracles. Panglung Ritroe was known to be a very sacred and holy place as the Panglung oracles took trance of numerous Dharma Protectors, such as Dorje Shugden, Setrap and Kache Marpo there.

This was also the very place that Choje-la’s father, the 6th Panglung oracle, took trance and advised that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and his entourage should leave Tibet. Just imagine, the sacred king of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, had his life saved by the oracular pronouncements of Dorje Shugden through this illustrious line of oracles, from Panglung Ritroe in 1959.

I have known of Choje-la for quite some time now and over the past 10 years, my students and I have developed a connection with him. I got to know Choje-la much better when he visited us in Kechara Forest Retreat last year and I have only deep appreciation and great respect for this saintly old monk who has selflessly spent his entire life taking trance of Protectors to help and benefit the sangha, high lamas and lay people. He has been doing this for over 40 years.

This is why, with Dorje Shugden’s blessings, I decided to create a permanent home here in Kechara Forest Retreat for Choje-la, who has devoted his life to benefiting others without thinking of himself. I wanted to offer Choje-la his own place where he has complete privacy and independence, where he can live comfortably with his assistants, where he can host friends and guests, where he can come and go as he likes, and most importantly a place where he can live out the rest of his life if he wants to.

I wish for this wonderful elderly monk to live in a beautiful place surrounded by mountains, greenery, dotted with Buddha statues and brimming with Dharma activities. I do not wish for anything in return from Choje-la and my only hope is that he is happy, healthy and comfortable in his new home. It is a great pleasure for me to be able to serve Choje-la in this manner in his older years, as I have done in the past with many other elderly lamas.

With Choje-la’s permission, I named the house Panglung Ritroe because I see it as a revival of Dorje Shugden’s lineage, a symbol of the glorious history of the Panglung oracles, and I hope it is a place that will continue to benefit and help many beings. We believe in the Tibetan tradition that by offering a place of residence to eminent monks, great teachers, and practitioners, we create the causes for the Buddhadharma to grow, stabilize and reach many more people because it is with a comfortable residence that they can maintain their bodies and health to continue their Dharma works.

I thank everyone involved in the sponsorship, planning, building, pujas and physical hard work that went into this project which took a year to complete. Without the hard work of Kecharians and friends who did all this, this would not have been possible. I also thank Choje-la for agreeing to this project, for accepting the residence and I thank Dorje Shugden for granting my request to create this residence.

By offering this residence to Choje-la on behalf of Kechara, may all things auspicious come true as in the King of Prayers! May Dorje Shugden’s lineage from here on in be revived and preserved, bringing tremendous benefit to the world, just like it did in the past. May all involved be blessed and protected by Manjushri in this and future lives.

Sarva Mangalam.

With great happiness and prayers,
Tsem Rinpoche

About Panglung Ritroe

Panglung Ritroe is the name given to a hermitage that belonged to the 1st Panglung Rinpoche, who had served the Tibetan government in Tibet. For his services subsidising a war between Tibet and a small country in Mongolia, named Sengba, he was given the hermitage and it was named after him. It was located near Sera Mey Monastery in Lhasa. This hermitage included the official ladrang of the Panglung Rinpoche, a chapel where the Panglung oracle could take trance, and quarters for the Panglung oracle.

Since then, Panglung Ritroe became a place where the Buddha’s teachings were preserved and spread. This is especially true of the lineage of Dorje Shugden. Panglung Rinpoche had a personal oracle that he had trained, who came to live with the Panglung Rinpoche at the hermitage. Over time this oracle became known as the Panglung Kuten, or the Panglung Oracle, because he lived there. The oracular lineage belonging to this hermitage has been passed down for seven generations and is the most renowned line of Dorje Shugden oracles from Tibet.

6thPanglung

Choje-la’s father, the 6th Panglung Kuten

The current 7th Panglung Kuten Thubten Phelgye Jigme Namgyal, affectionately known as Choje-la was trained and authorised by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and the 2nd Kyabje Domo Geshe Rinpoche. Born in Panglung Ritroe in Tibet, he lived there with his mother and father. Choje-la’s father was the previous 6th Panglung Kuten, and was famed for his trances of Dorje Shugden, Setrap and Kache Marpo. In fact it was in Panglung Ritroe that the 6th Panglung Kuten took trance of Dorje Shugden to give advice that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama should leave Tibet in 1959. Unfortunately the Panglung Ritroe was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution in Tibet. Despite this, it is still considered a very important and sacred place, as Dorje Shugden took trance of the oracle so many times there. Pilgrims can still be seen going to the ruins to make offerings, prayers, sangsol (incense offerings), to hang prayer flags and circumambulate the holy site.

Choje-la did not have an official ladrang or residence up until now. As the oracle of Dorje Shugden, this ladrang can also be seen as the ladrang of Dorje Shugden himself. Since its destruction after 1959, around 100 people within certain associations did their utmost best to procure certificates from the current authorities in Tibet in order to rebuild. However since Panglung Ritroe was not registered previously with the authorities, certificates could not be obtained. Therefore reconstruction in Tibet has not been possible, and Choje-la has been left without a ladrang. If Choje-la was in Tibet, Panglung Ritroe would be his home as he was born there, and is where both his parents worked and served the Dharma community.

In 2015 Choji-la visited Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR) to perform a series of prayers for the stability and growth of KFR, and the growth of the Dharma. It was during this visit that Choji-la took trance of Dorje Shugden and Kache Marpo, blessing those present and the land. Following this visit, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche decided that Panglung Ritroe would be reconstructed here in Kechara Forest Retreat, and then offered up to Choji-la in thanks for his years of service to the Dharma through his work as an oracle and as the re-establishment of a powerful ladrang.

Before construction began, traditional procedures were followed and pujas were performed to bless the land and environment. Prayers are performed to generate the necessary merits needed to build temples or other structures. In this case it is the reconstruction of Panglung Ritroe, the ladrang of the Panglung Kuten. This post highlights the months of construction that went into this building and most importantly, the historic moment that Panglung Ritroe was offered up to the Panglung Kuten himself.

Prior to Panglung Ritroe being offered to him, the Panglung Kuten realised that behind the residence was a hill with a sacred statue of Manjushri and in front, off to one-side, is the stunning statue of Tara. This matches perfectly the layout of Panglung Ritroe in Tibet, which had a hill behind it with a chapel of Dorje Shugden, who is none other than Manjushri, and also a nearby place where Machig Labdron meditated. Machig Labdron is considered to be an emanation of Tara. Therefore what existed around Panglung Ritroe in Tibet has been mirrored in Kechara Forest Retreat. This matching layout was not intentional. However it is a strong, potent and auspicious sign that Panglung Ritroe has once again been established, and the holy lineage of Dorje Shugden has been revived for the world to benefit from. Please watch the video below and see the pictures of its construction to witness this holy event in preserving the Dorje Shugden lineage and reviving the great power of Panglung Ritroe.

Mr. JP Thong, a student of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche shares in such a beautiful and inspiring way, his spiritual journey in building this holy Panglung Ritroe. JP skilfully infuses the work with dharma and inner transformation. In fact, the whole project for JP was a spiritual practice and meditation in action. Please listen to this short and inspiring video of the meaning behind Panglung Ritroe and why it was built in Kechara Forest Retreat, Malaysia.

H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche and H.E. the 7th Panglung Kuten at the opening ceremony of Panglung Ritroe.

The current Panglung Kuten Thubten Phelgye Jigme Namgyal, is the 7th oracle from the renowned lineage of Panglung oracles, hailing from Sera Monastery. He was personally trained and his psychic energy channels were blessed by the previous Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and the 2nd Domo Geshe Rinpoche. For more than 40 years, he has been taking trance for the monasteries, high lamas, sangha and lay practitioners from all around the world. The 7th Panglung oracle takes trance of Dorje Shugden, Setrap, Kache Marpo, Shiptak Gyene and several other Dharma protectors.

PRChojela-01He is a gentle, humble and virtuous monk who holds his vows very well and he has never expected any form of reward in return for the assistance that he has rendered to so many. Although he is learned, the Panglung oracle is modest, unassuming and a very private person who engages in his meditation practices quietly.

Many devoted practitioners from around the world request him to travel all over, in order to take trance of Dorje Shugden to give prophecies and dispense advice for all kinds of problems. It is without a doubt that he has benefited innumerable people through the accurate prophecies and incredible blessings of the protector. This goes to show the incredible compassion and full omniscience of the great Dharma protector Dorje Shugden, who interacts with practitioners through the Panglung Kuten.

The location of Panglung Ritroe was selected in accordance with Dorje Shugden’s advice for the hermitage to be on Kechara Forest Retreat, but in a place away from the main hub of activity so that Choje-la would have some privacy. After personally inspecting various sites throughout KFR, Tsem Rinpoche selected the current location for its seclusion. Before construction began, the land was blessed and consecrated by the Kechara House Puja Team.

To ensure the house would remain cool even in the hottest weather, materials were selected to provide optimum insulation from the heat. This included the roof and the walls. The best materials were selected for Choje-la’s house, to ensure that the building would be long-lasting and require as little maintenance as possible. Throughout the construction of Panglung Ritroe, many auspicious signs were witnessed and experienced by the construction team. Most notably, there were no obstacles throughout the project. Materials were delivered on time, no one was injured and the work went very smoothly.

A few days before construction began, a beehive appeared in a tree on the Panglung Ritroe property. In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, beehives are considered highly auspicious. Similar beehives have appeared at other sacred sites before, for example in Dungkar Monastery belonging to His Eminence Domo Geshe Rinpoche. In 2010, just before the construction of Dungkar Monastery was about to begin, a beehive in the shape of a white conch shell appeared in the rafters.

Amongst other auspicious signs to appear at Panglung Ritroe include a toad which was spotted at the entrance of the house when Tsem Rinpoche visited Panglung Ritroe after construction was finished. On the day Choje-la himself arrived at Panglung Ritroe, there was a light rain just before his arrival while the first lotus in a recently made pond suddenly went into bloom.

As Choje-la toured Panglung Ritroe, he remarked with great happiness that its location was extremely auspicious. Choje-la explained that its location was exactly like the original Panglung Ritroe in Tibet. The original Panglung Ritroe had a Dorje Shugden shrine on the hill behind the hermitage, and nearby was a cave where Machig Labdron herself had meditated. At the current Panglung Ritroe here in Malaysia, on the hill behind the house is a statue of Manjushri and next to the house is a statue of Tara. Choje-la said it was auspicious because Dorje Shugden is an emanation of Manjushri, while Machig Labdron is considered an emanation of Tara.

It is indeed wonderful to see that Kechara Forest Retreat now has a Ladrang to house the venerable 7th Panglung Kuten oracle.
I have seen KFR almost from the start until now, back then everywhere was mud, clay and trees. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that such a place would be able to become a place that would house the world’s most renowned and most highly attained Dorje Shugden oracle.

Due to the kindness of His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche , we are fortunate to have Choje La here in Kechara Forest retreat. This signifies that Dorje Shugden is is here to stay and benefit the people who come to Kechara.

I really rejoice at the news that the Kechara Forest retreat has built a home for the great 7th Panglung Kuten to bless countless sentient beings, all these would not be possible if not for the sponsors who made the right choice to donate to the building of Panglung Ritroe.

Dorje Shugden oracles have been benefitting sentient beings for the past 400 years, the impact they have made in spiritual growth and the countless advice they have bestowed on people in power and influence has changed the face of history.

The oracles contribution cannot be underestimated, not only that, the time and effort and endurance an oracle has to bear to become an oracle for the protectors is a feat in itself. One can’t help but feel rejoicing that the oracle for Dorje Shugden has a home in Malaysia. Tsem Rinpoche making this offering on behalf of Kechara is another step to preserve the Gaden tradition for many more generations to come.

Thank you, Tsem Rinpoche and team.
May H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche and H.E. the 7th Panglung Kuten live long & healthy to continue serve BuddhaDharma.

Seeing Panglung Ritroe from start building until completed. It took a lot of hard work and care. All the effort had put in by sponsors, students of H.E.Tsem Tulku Rinpoche will be last for hundred of years from now to revive the history of Panglung Ritroe at the in Tibet. It’s matter because Dorje Shugden through Panglung oracle has benefited thousand of people over few century ,including saving H.H. Dalai Lama life escape from Tibet to India .

  5. Pastor Albert on Jan 25, 2017 at 2:09 am

Again, this Panglung Ritroe has proved how much H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche show his respect to the other Sangha members, especially the respected Sangha like the 7th Panglung Kuten who has been tirelessly benefiting so many people in the past years, Rinpoche built a permanent house for him to stay whenever he comes to Malaysia.

Every part of the house, Rinpoche has put a lot of care when building it, all the facilities inside the house has been made convenient and easy to reach.

example, kitchen, washroom and bedroom is nearby so Chojila doesn’t need to walk to far, all the rooms are downstairs cause climbing the stairs can be tiring for him, all these are done with great care.

For the past 20 years in Malaysia, Rinpoche has shown great care towards everyone who walk into his life, many of his students who work closely to him witness his compassion almost daily, read here for more about how Rinpoche help and benefit others: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/category/personal-attendant

Rejoice ! It is important of the revival of the Panglung Ritroe. It is a sign that the great Panglung lineage will continue and grow. The rebuilt of this Panglung Ritroe at Kechara Forest Retreat and was approved by Dorje Shugden showing that our lama’s Samaya is clean. Furthermore, Dorje Shugden arose as the principal Protector of Lama Tsongkhapa’s doctrine especially to protect Nagarjuna’s Middle View, showing that Kechara Forest Retreat has important role to keep Lama Tsongkhapa’s lineage well.

Thank you Rinpoche for having Panglung Ritroe here in KFR and thanks to JP Thong and the team who made this happened. So many will be blessed and benefit from Dorje Shugden’s blessings

That’s a GOOD qualities ( Love, Compassion, Generosity and care of others in equal ) i should practice more and more from Rinpoche.

Watching the house being built everyday, I was full of anticipation and excitement. How blessed to have Panglung Ritroe revived right here in our very own Kechara Forest Retreat! And to also know that Choje-la will have a place of His own, a home and well taken care of. He served so many people, tirelessly and He is still doing it despite the ban. His faith and trust in Dorje Shugden since birth, show a lot. This also shows that Dorje Shugden is indeed an Enlightened protector, preserving the Dharma and always full of wisdom helping others through trances.

JP and team did a very good job, as always. The house was built and decorated with much care and love. Kudos to the team.
But most of all, thank you Rinpoche for having Panglung Ritroe here in KFR. So many will be blessed and benefit from Dorje Shugden’s blessings.

25 December 2016, many people were celebrate Christmas but for Kecharian this xmas is really special because we are offering Panglung Ritroe to The 7th Panglung Kuten, Choje-la. As we know that, Chose-la is very famous oracle with Dorje Shugden trance.

By offering a ritroe to Choje-la , so Choje-la can stay in Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR) forever and can concentrate on his trance especially in Dorje Shugden’s trance which can guide on sangha , lama or layman on spiritual issues.

My Guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche did show us an good example on how he devoted to high lama by offering a very comfort accommodation place to Choje-la.

May all sentient beings blessed by Dorje Shugden in spiritual path. May Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s Dharma flourish and benefit more and more people.
Thanks everyone for the contributions in any means.

It is such an honour for Kecharians to be able to offer a house to Panglung Kuten, by making offering to a monk who serves Dorje Shugden his whole life, we collect tremendous amount of merits. Apart from this, we are also very fortunate that Panglung Kuten lineage is revived here in Kechara Forest Retreat, Malaysia.

May many more people can be blessed by Dorje Shugden, may the pure lineage of Tsongkhapa and Dorje Shugden continues to flourish.

  16. Sharon Ong on Jan 3, 2017 at 10:00 am

It was indeed an extraordinary Christmas as it marked an auspicious beginning of something exciting in Kechara. With this offering to Choiji-la, it would mean that Kechara is home to not just one extraordinary lamas but two! I can’t help but feel that we are most fortunate to be in such close proximity of 2 great lamas and hope that this is just the start of many more to come.

Since the trance last year, my kids have been asking when will Choji-la come again for a visit. I keep telling them that I don’t know. Imagine their thrill when they found out that the house that we use to pass belongs to Choji-la and that he is staying there now. I share their happiness as this would not only mean that we have the Panglung Oracle himself breathing the same air as us but also knowing that Choji-la has a comfortable home to call his own makes me glad. It is only fitting for us to take care for someone who has used his entire life for others, to repay Choji-la’s great kindness. This offering is a wonderful teaching on care and gratitude, as what Tsem Rinpoche has taught us and shown examples of himself.

Kudos to JP, sponsors and the team who made this happen. Truly a beautiful and meaningful offering indeed.

    Dear Rinpoche,

First of all, thank you Rinpoche for proposing the plan, getting the approval from Dorje Shugden and Choje-la, and providing the precious opportunity to our Kechara team, especially JP, to build an official place of residence to the oracle of Dorje Shugden, Panglung Ritroe.
This historical event marks the beginning of the growth of Buddhadharma in Malaysia significantly through Dorje Shugden’s lineage as Choje-la will stay in Panglung Ritroe for a very long time. This will be a great blessing and fortune for all Malaysians and many new generations to come. Many new visitors, Kechara members and friends in Kechara Forest Retreat will be blessed through the presence of Choje-la.

I sincerely want to thank JP for his hard work, effort, time and diligence to plan, organize, discuss and oversee the entire Panglung Ritroe’s construction until the final completion of the house. JP’s good explanation of constructing this house is a retreat on spiritual level can serve as motivations and aspirations to many of us for more constructions to be manifested in Kechara Forest Retreat in order to serve many people for their spiritual practice as well as strengthening the continuous growth of Buddhadharma to the 10 directions, reaching to every corner of the world.

Thank you Rinpoche for coming to Malaysia and spread the lineage of Dorje Shugden to help us in learning and practising the Buddhadharma. May Rinpoche and Choje-la live long and stay in good health to continue to turn the wheel of Dharma.

Thank You Rinpoche for making this auspicious event happened in Kechara Forest Retreat in Bentong in Malaysia. It was unbelievable to me when I heard of this news. In other words, it showed to me that Choje-la will be retiring in Malaysia and Dorje Shugden oracles lineage will begin in Kechara Forest Retreat for many life times to benefit others. Kehcara Forest Retreat indeed is Dorje Shugden land. I was so excited and happy to learn this news, the excitement goes on till this moment when I am writing this comment.

Thank You Rinpoche for requesting this Power House from Dorje Shugden. Thank You JP for coordinating and designing the house so carefully to ensure Choje-la feel comfortably staying in there and less maintaince required for His busy life.

I am looking forward to visit Kechara Forest Retreat (my spiritual home or my retiring home in future) and Pangung Ritroe in my next home trip.

    With folded hands to Rinpoche,

    Dear Rinpoche,

This is a very very auspicious and good news!

The success of building Panglung Ritroe significant the Rising House of Dorje Shugden’s power and the continuity of the lineage. It is so auspicious when Choji-la pointed out that the Panglung Ritroe have matching layout with Panglung Ritroe in Tibet and it is strong significant that once again the Panglung Ritroe have been established here in Malaysia, and the holy lineage of Dorje Shugden has been revived for the world to benefit !

I am so touch when i listened to how Mr. JP build the house. He build with very good motivation and he have strong Guru devotion. He was very detail in building the house to ensure the house is really comfortable and long lasting. Yet he is so humble. He is truly inspirational

I thanks Rinpoche for bringing the lineage of Dorje Shugden to Malaysia. Give us the true lineage of Gelug. May Rinpoche be happy and healthy.

  21. Joy Kam on Dec 31, 2016 at 3:19 am

This is truly such a historical event that I would have never in my wildest dreams expected to witness in this lifetime. A great rejoicing event to witness and even to be able to participate in very small way is already a great rejoicing opportunity, as we invite the revival of our great Dharma Protector’s line of trusted authentic oracles – the Panglung Kuten through the offering of this historical residence called Panglung Ritroe!

It may look like a simple house, but this house signifies the great continuity and indestructible powerful lineage of Dorje Shugden oracles who will rise again and again, ever more powerful each time to be of great benefit to many people, to the world in fact, now and into the future. How powerful and great merits for Kechara to create and make such an offering to our Dharma Protector, as Rinpoche advised us to visualise Dorje Shugden and Chojila as one. And this is due to ingenious kindness of Rinpoche whose trust, faith and devotion to Dorje Shugden has never ever once waver due to pressure or politics. And to request and get permission to built Panglung Ritroe from Dorje Shugden himself – wow only Rinpoche can think of something like that. And it goes to show, if Dorje Shugden approves of us to built his oracle’s residence, we must be on the right track, we must be doing something right, nd it must mean Kechara will only grow further and last. Also it made it all even more special and precious because Chojila is such a pure, humble, gentle, no ego, selfless, highly attained monk, he embodies the holiness of pure/real sangha.

When Rinpoche made the speech that this house is for Chojila and because he has been serving the Dharma, benefiting so many for so many years and never once ask for anything… and that we, Kechara would like to offer this house to Chojila and we would take care of Chojila, really moved hearts. I saw Chojila’s assistant Sumei cried and it felt like she was deeply moved and appreciative, it was like “finally now dear Chojila has a place to call home and be safe” (my gosh she made me wanna cry too! Lol) But that was the energy she gave out and it was really beyond words the beauty, kindness, and power of this great offering. Something worth rejoicing billion times over. Thank you Rinpoche for doing this and for allowing us to witness this very special historical occasion.

It seems that Rinpoche and Kechara keep creating history. Keep reviving whatever that was forgotten, suppressed or degenerated. It seems like Rinpoche is reviving the lineage and the Buddha Dharma again like Rinpoche’s previous life, but this time from Malaysia to the world, as this was the same wish Rinpoche made many years back when we were going to built KWPC. It seems like the same prayers Rinpoche had made since day one, “whenever there is a misunderstanding of the Dharma, may I (Tsem Rinpoche) make it clear… and wherever there is no Dharma, may I (Tsem Rinpoche) bring the Dharma” sorry for any mistakes but it is something along these lines.

Thank you again Rinpoche for allowing me to witness this and to be able to contribute a little bit through painting etc to collect some merits. I am glad, lucky, blessed that I have a bit of merit to still be alive and around to experience this great rejoicing manifestation.

  22. Echeah on Dec 30, 2016 at 11:59 pm

How lucky we are that H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche chose to establish a ladrang on this land within our midst. Then now, the ladrang of H.E. the 7th Panglung Kuten is also established on our land and in our midst! It is doubly auspicious and a real privilege for us. How much closer can we get to the dharma, Dorje Shugden, Manjushri, Lama Tsongkhapa, Vajrayogini, the entire lineage? What have we done in our previous lives to warrant such honour? It is just incredible. _/\_

We cannot let this window of opportunity pass. Now what we do with this is entirely up to us. _/\_

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this beautiful article and the beautiful video. Rejoice to Choje-la and rejoice to Kechara! It is very meritorious to make offering to high Lama like Choje-la. What more he is the oracle of Dorje Shugden. With all the auspicious signs, KFR is truly an auspicious place for Choje-la and Dorje Shugden. When watching the video, my reaction was “Wow….. Wow….. Wow…..!” I really feel happy and rejoice for Choje-la from the bottom of my heart. And, when I see Shu Mei wiping her tears, I can feel her joy came from her heart and she was very touched. Thanks to the kindness of Rinpoche, Rinpoche’s love is immeasurable. May Choje-la long life and live happily there. _/\_

Auspicious news indeed. It was a touching scene too to see the great King of Dorje Shugden having His Ladrang back. Thank you to Tsem Rinpoche for making this happen for Choje-la and Su Mei. The fact that this Panglung Ritroe set up was accidentally similar to the one in Tibet wows many. I felt this sign is very strong and very auspicious that Panglung Ritroe has once again been established, and the holy lineage of Dorje Shugden will continue to prosper. Rejoicing news indeed! May Choje-La live long and continue the great work benefitting many many more people!

    Wow wow wow!

This is such a wonderful news for all of us, as this indicates that the lineage of the great Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden is coming back up fast now from the destroyed home for the oracles and the illogical ban on practicing Dorje Shugden.

So much efforts, determinations, faiths, loves, cares, considerations, respects, and humbles to make all these happened, a home, a lineage of the Buddha teachings and a relationship.

This great event is a great cause for many who are suffering from the ban to be relieved and for all sentient beings to be benefited.

Thank you, Tsem Rinpoche and everyone who worked hard and tirelessly to make these happened. Thank you!

Finally! Panglung Ritroe, the now defunct abode for the Panglung oracles in Tibet has been built in KFR. The 7th Panglung oracle, fondly referred to as Chojela, can really call this abode his domain. Chojela has been serving the dharma and Dorje Shugden for several decades to benefit all beings and it is befitting for an elderly monk, who asks nothing for himself, to continue his work in the beautiful natural surroundings in KFR. All Kecharians look forward to seeing more of Chojela when he visits KFR to stay in his home.

    May Chojela live very long.
May Chojela’s work continue to benefit all sentient beings.

It’s a remarkle show of great compassion for one whose religious practise many who follow His Holiness The Dalai Lama despise.

This is testimony to genuine buddhist practice and Tsem Rinpoche is truly a compassionate lama.

If you ask me who I’d choose to learn from I’d say Tsem only because of the love and compassion he and his students shown towards people including the hate-mongers.

Kudos to Tsem Rinpoche and Kechara!!!

Its indeed wonderful to watched the video too and those beautiful pictures shared.

  39. Pastor Han Nee on Dec 28, 2016 at 2:47 pm

The Panglung Ritroe is the name of the original home of the Panglung Rinpoches and the lineage of the Panglung oracles in Lhasa, Tibet. It is a very sacred and holy place as the Panglung oracles took trance of numerous Dharma Protectors, such as Dorje Shugden, Setrap and Kache Marpo there. The building of the Panglung Ritroe in Kechara Forest Retreat is to commemorate this original home. The Panglung Ritore in Lhasa holds sacred memories : it was there that Choji Lah’s father, the previous Panglung Kuten took trance of Dorje Shugden and advised Trijang Rinpoche that the Dalai Lama must escape immediately and Dorje Shugden would ensure His safety in the escape, which he did.

In deep appreciation and respect for Choji Lah who has selflessly spent his entire life taking trance of Protectors to help and benefit the sangha, high lamas and lay people, and with the blessings of Dorje Shugden, Rinpoche decided to build this home for Choji Lah , where he could stay for the rest of his life. Rinpoche decided to name the home the Panglung Ritroe because Rinpoche sees it “as a revival of Dorje Shugden’s lineage, a symbol of the glorious history of the Panglung oracles, and a place that will continue to benefit and help many beings”.

The Panglung Ritroe in Kechara Forest Retreat is a beautiful dwelling, set amidst very serene and holy surroundings. Choji Lah even mentioned that this Panglung Ritroe truly reflects the original Panglung Ritroe in having Manjushri to the left in the background (where the original had a Manjushri Dorje Shugden Chapel), and a Tara to the right in the background just as with the original Panglung Ritroe)

It is most touching to see Rinpoche showing and guiding Choji Lah around the house, with such loving care and affectionate regard. Rinpoche thus teaches us how we should show respect to an elderly person, especially this pure and holy monk, who has spent his entire life benefiting people and beings with the Dharma.May Choji Lah stay well and healthy and continue to benefit countless beings for years and years to come.

Thank you Rinpoche for conceiving the creation of the lovely Panglung Ritroe as home for Choji Lah. Thank you JP for painstakingly designing Panglung Ritroe to be the lovely. sacred and serene place that it is now. Thank you sponsors, the puja team and everyone who has contributed to the completion of such an auspicious and sacred dwelling place.

Rejoice for what this portents and what it signifies – the growth of the Buddhadharma in Malaysia and the world; the clean samaya for the pure lineage and teachings to continue and flourish.

Thank you, Rinpoche and all involved in this offering to Choje-la.

  41. Stella Cheang on Dec 28, 2016 at 12:04 pm

It is the utmost privilege to offer a permanent residence to Choji-la right here at Kechara Forest Retreat. This is so significant in many levels. The Panglung Ritroe is significant because now, the authentic oracular lineage of the Panglung Kuten resides here in Kechara Forest Retreat; it represents a place where the Panglung oracle would take trance, and quarters for the Panglung oracle. It also means the strengthening of the friendship between Kecharians and the enlightened Dharmapala, Dorje Shugden, through the blessing of our precious Guru, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. This certainly make way for greater Dharma work to take place here with the blessings of two holy beings! Thank you so much to Rinpoche, all Kecharians and kind sponsors for making this meritorious offering possible. May the pure lineage of Dorje Shugden spread to the ten directions from Kechara Forest Retreat!

  42. sweekeong on Dec 28, 2016 at 11:54 am

This is such an auspicious news for everyone. It is such a priviledge for Kechara especially the team to build and offer a permanent house for Chojela, a senior monk, who have tirelessly served others as a Dorje Shugden oracle all these years.

When we serve the Guru, the Dharma, and the Sangha by providing for them to live and stay not only the Dharma will grow we develop all the good qualities like them. Rejoice for Rinpoche and the team’s accomplishment of another great milestone of the lineage to grow and spread from here.

  43. Lew on Dec 28, 2016 at 10:32 am

I passed by this “house” almost everyday when I am in KFR and really rejoice that Panglung Ritroe is finally officially opened. I have always been fascinated by oracles when I grow up, and I am glad that in Gelug school of Buddhism, we have our own lineage of oracle who took trance to benefit many people, be it secular and spiritual.

From what I learnt, the current Panglung oracle, Chojela has been tirelessly taking trance of various protector such as Dorje Shugden and Setrap. He does not ask anything for return as He is a very pure monk. He also doesn’t simply take other people’s offering. Therefore, it is with great privilege we Kechara has the honour to offer Him an official residence.

May the lineage of Dorje Shugden, Lama Tsongkhapa and Vajrayogini spread far and wide from Kechara, from Malaysia to reach especially this part of the world and eventually internationally.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing a very great news of Panglung Ritroe opening in Kechara Forest Retreat. We are so meritorious to have Choje-La and home to benefits and spread the Dharma.

Thank you Rinpoche and all sponsorships, planning, pujas and physical hard work to make the project happen and manifest.

  45. MartinC on Dec 28, 2016 at 6:02 am

This is such joyful news for a number of reasons.

Firstly, Choje-la the 7th Panglung Kuten is such an amazing monk who has served the Dharma and helped countless people his entire life. Even as an elderly sangha, Choje-la keeps a very busy schedule and travels from country to country to take trance of the King Protector to heal the sick, give important advice, help monasteries and keep Lama Tsongkhapa’s lineage alive and well. And Choje-la is well known for not asking for anything for himself.

It is very comforting to see Choje-la having now a safe and adequate home in Kechara Forest Retreat where it will be an honor for Kecharians to serve him.

Secondly, I personally see the revival of the Panglung Ritroe as a sign that the great Panglung lineage will continue. This is important as the Panglung line of oracles have performed magnificent feats including helping His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama leave Tibet and arrive in India safely. In safeguarding the Dalai Lama the [6th] Panglung Kuten secured the Buddhadharma according to the Vajrayana tradition. I think this is important to remember. These days, some unhappy people accuse Dorje Shugden falsely but the fact that Dorje Shugden saved His Holiness says a lot about the Protector’s good intentions towards the Dalai Lama and the Dharma.

Thirdly, Dorje Shugden in approving for the Panglung Ritroe to be rebuilt on Kechara Forest Retreat says that as a family of Dharma practitioners, we are on the right track and our Lama’s samaya with the Great Dorje Shugden is clean and untainted. This is fantastic news for all Kecharians because that would mean that the teachings given by our Lama, Tsem Rinpoche is rich in potency and carry the blessings of the lineage lamas.

Kechara these days is so different compared to a few short years prior. We have monks and Kechara Pastors in maroon and Sangha-to-be in white gracing the grounds of KFR today. More and more people are coming to know Dorje Shugden and from this association, they are led to the holy Dharma. Before our eyes, we see everything Tsem Rinpoche prophesy coming true.

According to the Buddhist teachings, we all have a unique blend of karma that determines where we are born, the circumstances of our birth and the quality of our life. Naturally, this is due to the actions that we performed in previous lives. Karma also dictates our characteristics and traits that determine how we act throughout our lives, which in turn leads to certain outcomes in this life and a determination of where we will take rebirth in the future.

Karma, however, is not set in stone. We can change our circumstances through our own efforts – purification of karma and accumulation of merit. Tibetan astrology, based on these Buddhist principles, provides us the methods to ensure success in this life and a good rebirth in the future. Tibetan astrology can also predict what will happen to us in this life and our next rebirth based on the time of our birth.

Discover your traits according to the Mewa, or Magical Square system of Tibetan astrology below, and find out how to purify your negative karma to improve your life!

    Very interesting:

Radin explained in his book: “For a Western-trained academic, the mere existence of, say, telepathy would be considered supernormal and thus wildly extraordinary. But for an experienced yogi, it’s just a boringly normal minor siddhi [a Sanskrit term for a meditation attainment, or power]. A skeptical scientist, not having the benefit of thousands of hours of practice in yoga and meditation, would require repeatable, rigorously obtained experimental data showing odds against chance of a gazillion to one. The yogi merely requires his own experience.”

This Mahasiddha is Kukkuripa (the dog lover). He loved dogs so much. When he meditated in the cave he had his doggie with him. She had kept him company for years in his cave. They shared bedding, food, water and company. When he gained high attainments, the Dakinis came to take him to Kechara Paradise. He was hesitant to go but the Dakinis insisted and he went with them.

He arrived at Kechara (Paradise/Buddha abode of Heruka and Vajra Yogini) and enjoyed teachings and feasts up there and they asked him to stay longer if not forever…. But he kept thinking about his doggie left alone in the cave. He felt guilty and missed her. Kukkuripa would use his psychic powers to see his poor doggie alone and hungry waiting for him at the cave while enjoying the attention of the Dakinis and feasts. The cave was dark and had no food. The doggie had to go out and find small tiny scraps of food and was getting skinny. Kukkuripa saw this and it pained him. Worried she was not getting enough food. He use to share the offerings of food he would get from people with her. Doggie and him would delightfully eat the food together. Kukkuripa had no attachments to ‘clean’ or ‘dirty’ in regards to sharing food with his dog. He had overcome this in his meditations. In ancient India, people would not co-habitate with a dog. It was considered unclean and filthy, but Kukkuripa had cast away those notions and loved his dog as she loved him. But he felt guilty to leave her alone while he was ‘enjoying’ himself in Kechara and could not stop thinking about his beloved dirty smelly dog in his cave alone…so he left Kechara Paradise and all it’s ‘delights’ for his doggie. He couldn’t abandon her. The Dakinis implored him to stay, but he was firm to return. The Dakinis said you will give up this paradise here for a mere dog???!! You can advance further in your meditations if you stay in Kechara and then help the dog later they attempted to persuade him. But Kukkuripa would not stay, he was loyal to his little dog as she had kept him company for many years in the lonely dark cave. She was loyal to him and how can he abandon her now. He couldn’t and he wouldn’t listen to the Dakinis. He left to join doggie. He never forget her companionship and loyalty. All the wonderful things in Kechara could not tempt him against his loyal friend the little doggie. He left everything for her.

So he finally left Kechara to the Dakinis dismay and went back to his cave to be with his dog so she won’t be alone. Doggie was delighted to see her master and wagged her tail so much!! She licked him and he hugged her! She was skinnier for not eating well these few days he noticed. He fed her and hugged her and loved his doggie…He went back to his routine of meditation, receiving food offerings and sharing his food with doggie. They were happy together. One day, when he was scratching her in her favorite place and she licked him so his eyes were closed, when he opened his eyes she had suddenly turned into a Dakini shimmering with lights! The brilliance of the lights lit up the whole cave in front of Kukkuripa!! Kukkuripa was astonished to behold the splendourous lady in front of him! Of course this Dakini must be the Queen Herself he realized, as Vajra Yogini which was Kukkuripa’s main Yidam he had meditated on her for years in the cave. And She said to Kukkuripa, “Well done, you gave up paradise to be with just a dog..it shows you have given up attachements and projections of pleasant and unpleasant, now your Dakini will give you the final paradise (enlightenment)!”

Kukkuripa attained full enlightenment blessed by Vajra Yogini by releasing the final subtle attachment to the non-existent self! After enlightenment his fame and name grew and many came to see him and he gave teachings to countless and benefitted many before he finally ascended to Kechara the second and final time. He was forever known as Kukkuripa the dog lover.

I love him so much!!! This is one of my favorite Mahasiddhas along with Badrapa, Shantideva, Ghantapa and a few others. I wanted to share this story with you. I wanted you to know that there are many great true stories like this one about Kukkuripa that are true and can be applied to our lives. To inspire us.

The great and illustrious master Sonam Tsemo at the end of his life was described by an old woman who witnessed Sonam Tsemo depart. Standing on a rock at the holy spring near Sakya area known as Chumik Dzingka, his body ascended gracefully into the sky, still holding his dog. He loved his dog very much. Even today the footprints of Loppon Sonam Tsemo and the dog can be clearly seen in the rock, left for the benefit of living beings as a field from which to accumulate merit. It is a sign of a holy being when they can leave their footprints in stone for future generations to witness and make offerings on that spot to collect merits. This holy site was decorated by the great master Mantradhara Ngawang Kunga Rinchen later on. Other accounts say that he ascended from Gorum Library near Chumik Dzingka spring. A stupa containing his holy relics was erected there. Sonam Tsemo was a powerful practitioner of the Lady Buddha Vajra Yogini and at the end of his short life he ascended with his very body to Kechara paradise. He was 40 years old. Kechara is the sanksrit name of the special abode of Vajra Yogini. Those who practice Vajra Yogini to the highest level can ascend her paradise with their very bodies. Sonam Tsemo the great master of sutra and tantra was seen by an old woman flying off holding his beloved dog to ascend Kechara paradise. No one every found his body and his room was empty.

Congratulations to Mitra for his first dharma teaching in Nepali to the expats. So glad that Dorje Shugden practise can reach out to many in various languages and to different people. Mitra has done a good job in introducing Lama Tsongkhapa lineage and guided them on the benefit and iconography of Dorje Shugden.

May Lama Tsongkhapa lineage and Dorje Shugden practise continue to grow and benefit more people.

Very clear explanation of what is Vajrayogini’s left foot stepping on. Each time when i have a look at the beautiful statue of Vajrayogini this question will comes back to me. i am glad came across these blog by chance, i saw and read to understand better.A clear explanation ..stampling left and right foot significant of desire ,hatred and ignorance that cause us to be in samsara and she she able to control.Vajrayogni’s practices is so powerful in heliping us and that is the reason Rinpoche always ask us to start now.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these short explanation in the video and the interesting story of Mahadeva.

Rejoice to all the families who had setup a Buddhist altar at home and conducted a house blessing puja. There are diverse benefits of conducting the house blessing puja, which ranges from bringing well-being on all levels – in one’s health, relationships, business, and family – to purifying the home. The puja ceremonies will purify the environment which helps the people who live there and people who are visiting there to experience general well-being. The puja can be personalised based on the request or need of the individual. Thank you for sharing with us the many photos of the beautiful altar of these families, it is very heartwarming to know that they will always be blessed by the Three Jewels.

Thank you for sharing this mindfully planned itinerary for everyone who is interested in visiting Kechara Forest Retreat. Kechara Forest Retreat has different facets that showcase different elements of spirituality and Tibetan Buddhism in this wholesale venue. One can enjoy the flora and fauna of Mother Nature, or embrace the contemporary architectures that feature many magnificent Buddha statues and authentic Himalayan decorations. Not forgetting to mention, in Kechara Forest Retreat sits the largest Dorje Shugden statue in the world! This is a holy place we must never miss to pay homage for blessings from the Three Jewels.

Can’t imagine that a priest actually stabbed Pope John Paul. How can he do this when he as a priest is suppose to be compassion and love everyone but kill the religion leader. he should remember that he carries the name priest and hence must show good example and behaviour to others but instead took another person’s life.

I respected Pope John who continued his trip even though he was injured. That shows the determination he had to teach so it can benefit others. Always put others first more than our own needs.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.

It is admirable for Sine Lindholm & Mads Ulrik Husum to place their design as open source for everyone to download and copy to manufacture. This shows how farsighted they are in propelling self-sustainability. The first step is always the hardest, and I believe what Sine and Mads had done is towards the right direction. In this way, people from all the around the world who genuinely are passionate and interested in growing own vegetables will be able to start on their own. Without needing to rely on middleman or manufacturer who might end up making the brilliant idea a commercial white elephant. Thank you, Rinpoche for this sharing.

Many companies especially in overseas are very considerate and allow their employees to bring their dogs to work. I personally think that this is a very good practice where the employees no longer have to worry about leaving pets at home alone. The work environments that cultivate loving kindness, caring and compassion create a much more positive and productive place to work. Besides, it may influence everyone especially those who do not have pet to be more kind to the animals.

Nevertheless, the employer and employees may have to work together to maintain the safe and cleanliness work place such as reduce odour, provide clean air and many others.

Thank you for this interesting article as a reminder to us to love and be kind to animals no matter where we are.

Superb idea and very creative. Home farming in the cities ! Appreciate all the hardwork and ideas to produce Growroom. It’s just like putting a big puzzle and making the whole process so much easier to plant in cities where we always have limited spaces.

We should support more people to come up with such ideas so we can eat our own food and cultivate self sustainability.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Pick the practice, devotion and precepts of Vajra Yogini\'s path over everything and anything in samsara. Samsara has nothing of value and nothing lasting to offer. You are born in suffering, live in suffering, die in suffering and enter bardo and future lives expecting more sufferings. This is not a negative way of looking at things but the truth. If the truth is negative, so it is the truth. Devote oneself to the guru, dharma work, dharma practice and bringing dharma to others compassionately. Choose to practice Vajra Yogini now with the preliminaries. Previous lives do resemble current lives especially if they are a recognized incarnation. If notice how similar the previous and current Trijang Rinpoche looks. The eyes, bone structure, expression, long neck, thin and overall look. Beautiful. I\'ve seen this phenomena over and over in many Rinpoche incarnations. Especially when you compare them with pictures of previous and current lives at around the same ages. Something powerfully karmic about this. Tsem Rinpoche

Kyabje Denma Gonsa Rinpoche telling people that it is important to have guru samaya. It use to be that way in the great monasteries. We should not create problems and schisms. If we want to practice a protector, then do so, if not it's okay, but don't make trouble. One should just practice the Buddha Dharma well. To do good practice. If you have faith in Dorje Shugden and trust all the way, he will definitely help you. But most important is to practice the dharma. This is his advice in short here. It's good to let more Tibetans hear this holy speech and appeal by this very senior Rinpoche. TR

Lia asked: If the ushnisha is actually supposed to be a bump, then do we change the visualization of the top knot and replace it with a bump covered in hair or do we keep the ushnisha as the thangkas show?

Dongho asked: I have been reading on the tunes of certain sects and would like to ask on this. From what I've read, there are certain tunes to each sect and school of certain chants. Exactly where can I find the sheet music for these percussion and horns with the chants, such as to the one for invoking Kache Marpo or Dorje Shugden? Would it be possible to use school instruments for this?
pastor answered: Dear Dongho, Thank you for your question, it is good to see you back and asking more questions. Yes you are right, there are differences in the tunes and chants between the lineages. The differences can vary significantly between the traditions, for example the Gelugpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism is known for its extremely deep throat singing which is very powerful and is characterised by a low, booming voice, in contrast to the other traditions. Even within a particular tradition, there can be slight variations as to the manner in which the chants and tunes are performed. For example those monasteries are which are affiliated with Gyume will have one way of throat singing, where those affiliated with Gyuto will have another. As far as I am aware there is no professional sheet music for the rituals, most probably because the music is actually an integral part of the ritual itself. Therefore the music, tunes, and chants are all taught at the same time the ritual and prayers are. The tunes, and use of the instruments all have specific meanings, because they are considered to be offerings to the deities in the form of sound. The monasteries would not have copies of sheet music either, because sheet music is western practice. The use of ritual music within Tibetan Buddhism is more of one based on memory. In the Kechara organisation, the puja team was trained in such ritual instruments at the same time they learnt the particular ritual from monks from the monastery, such as the puja of Dorje Shugden. From what I saw of the training, the musical tunes, and use of instruments was not written down but taught experientially at the same time as the chanting. I have not come across any other instruments being used in pujas apart from the traditional ritual instruments, because even the instruments themselves have a specific meaning. That is not say that school instruments cannot be used. This is because, as long as the offering is sincere, the Buddhas and enlightened deities will accept it, and in turn you will generate great amounts of merit. Offerings should be made to the best of our ability, therefore if you do not have access to the ritual instruments, or do not know how to play them, but you know how to play other instruments, and use these instruments as offerings to the Buddhas during pujas, the amount of merit you generate will be the same. This is because you are sincere with your offering. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Kunga asked: Does the Gelug have Begtse a protector? If so, could you please provide a sadhana for him here?
pastor answered: Dear Kunga, Yes the Dharma protector Begtse exists within the Gelug tradition. He is also known as Chamsing. Begtse’s practice stems from India and was introduced to Tibet and therefore Tibetan Buddhism by the translator Nyen Lotsawa. Marpa Lotsawa also practiced Begtse, and so the practice exists in the Kagyu traditions. This practice was eventually transmitted to Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, the first of the five patriarchs of the Sakya tradition, who were the founding fathers of that tradition. Over time the practice of Begtse was incorporated into the Gelug tradition, founded by Lama Tsongkhapa, and was notably practiced by the 1st and 2nd Dalai Lamas. Over time the practice gained popularity within the lineage, especially when it spread to Mongolia. There the practice became an important one within the lineage as upheld there. Begtse is also affectionately known as the Dharma protector of Mongolia, because his practice is so popular there. If I am not mistaken, there is an oracle of Begtse in Mongolia as well. There is a mistaken account that the practice originated around the time of the 3rd Dalai Lama, with the subjugation of a Mongolian war god, but Begtse was definitely practiced before that time in the Gelug, Kagyu and Sakya traditions. While the practice of Begtse is very effective, I have not come across the practice of Begtse in my personal practice, therefore I do not have access to the Begtse sadhana to provide to you. Instead Begtse is propitiated in prayers that incorporate many other Dharma protectors, and Begtse is also considered one of the nine protectors of the Hayagriva (Tamdrin) cycle of tantric teachings. Therefore Begtse is included in the Dharma protector sections of the Hayagriva tantras. Surrounding Begtse are his sister, Sing Ma, and his main minister, Le Khan Mar Po. His inner retinue comprises of eight butchers who wield copper swords in their right hands and skull-cups full of blood in their left hands. They are portrayed as naked and are very ugly. His outer retinue comprises a further twenty-one butchers, who hold copper swords in their right hands, and this time, the entrails of butchered enemies. They wear the skins humans and oxen as clothes, with ornaments made from human bone. While this may seem violent, Begtse is actually a very powerful and beneficial protector, who helps practitioners clear their obstacles and create conducive conditions for their spiritual evolution. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Azair asked: Venerable Rinpoche, I am doing a study in Kalachakra Tantra and I've heard from most of the lama's too that if you practice the Kalachakra Tantra, you'll be able to take control of your next rebirth. Ofcourse, it has been said that we will get our rebirth according to our Karma and desires but whether those dreams will get fulfilled will depend upon the actions that we take in this life. Thus, practicing the Kalachakra(till the end) after initiation will give you the opportunity to take rebirth anywhere you desire regardless of your Karma. My question is that, is there some truth in this statement.? Does this statement hold true for other tantra practices, such as Vajrayogini Tantra, Ghuyasamaja Tantra, Heruka Tantra, etc. I would really really like to know. Thankyou in anticipation, regards, Azair
pastor answered: Dear Azair, Thank you for your question. Yes there is truth to this statement, both from a scriptural perspective and also by example, as the great masters have shown us. This is a unique feature of all Anuttarayoga Tantras or Highest Yoga Tantras, which Kalachakra, Vajrayogini, Guhyasama and Heruka are all examples of. This category of tantric practice can actually lead a practitioner to full enlightenment in this very lifetime. Even if enlightenment is not reached, very high levels of attainment can be reached nonetheless. This includes the ability to take control over your next rebirth. This is primarily engaged in so that the practitioner is born in an environment where they can eventually pick up their practice and further their spiritual path to enlightenment, or in order to be born in a place where they can benefit sentient beings the most, as part of the spiritual journey over many lifetimes. One of the reasons such an ability is very necessary on the spiritual path, is that usual death and rebirth occurs at the mercy of ones karma, specifically what is known as the ‘throwing karma’ or the karma that dictates what sort of rebirth a person is going to take. This opens up at the time of ordinary death, which most people have no control over. During the death process, many of our disturbing emotions will arise. Whichever of these is the strongest at the point of death triggers open a latent karmic potential, which becomes the ‘throwing karma’ and dictates where we are going to take rebirth and if that life will generally be full of suffering or not. Within Anuttarayoga Tantra, one of the key points of practice is to prepare for one’s death. This is done by simulating the dying process during one’s meditations, so that one becomes familiar with it. At the most pivotal part of this process, one practices achieving either the rainbow body or great bliss (in the case of the father tantras); or clear light (in the case of mother tantras). The tantras themselves are not defined in terms of the gender of the central deity, but by the method used to gain enlightenment. This is either the rainbow body/great bliss (classified as male, therefore labelled ‘father’) or clear light (classified as female, therefore labelled ‘mother’). Non-dual tantras such as the Kalachakra tantra can employ either of the two methods, a mixture of both, or alternate methods. In the case of superior practitioners, due to the power of their practice, they can achieve either of these two methods in their current body. Since they have familiarised themselves with the dying process, and a particular method of practice, they can also achieve enlightenment during their physical death. The great Lama Tsongkhapa is said to have achieved enlightenment at the moment of physical death, using the second of these. For other practitioners, they may not be able to achieve this either in their meditations while they are alive, or during the death process. However because they have familiarised themselves with the dying process, they remain in complete concentration at the time of death, not allowing any disturbing emotions to arise. Due to this level of concentration, meditation and awareness during the dying process, they are able to control where they next take rebirth. This is evident in the tantric scriptures themselves, and the life stories of many masters, who can state exactly where, when and to whom they will take their next rebirth, as they are in full control of the dying and rebirth process. There is a type of meditation called ‘thukdam’ which has been translated into ‘death meditation’. This is a final meditation some masters choose to engage in. During this meditation, the master themselves consciously begin the physical dying process themselves, engage in the meditation of dissolving the winds into the heart centre and remain in the most pivotal part of the death process, the mind of clear light of death. During this point they engage in meditations, either the methods of the father or mother tantras as mentioned previously, and or consciously choose where they are to next take rebirth. They can remain in this death meditation for long periods of time, days at an end, in which their consciousness has not yet left their body, although for all intents and purposes they are dead according to medical science, e.g. they have no heartbeat. At the end of their meditation, a drop of blood will be emitted from their nostril, and their head will slump over a little. Masters who engage in this meditation usually sit in full meditation posture, and their body remain supple and soft even though they have passed away from a medical point of view. I hope this brief explanation helps. Thank you.

Brad asked: What is the significance of offering the Seven precious emblems of royalty to the Buddhas and enlightened Dharma Protectors? What are we symbolically offering up?
pastor answered: Dear Brad, Thank you for your question. The ‘saptaratna’ or seven precious emblems represent on the one hand the ultimate state of temporal power, and on the other hand the ultimate spiritual attainments that we can achieve. By offering these to the Buddhas, we are actually creating the causes to achieve what they represent. Therefore it is good to know the meaning of each, so we can understand what we are creating the causes for by offering them up: Please see below for an explanation of the seven royal emblems: 1. The Precious Wheel: a thousand spoked wheel, representing the universal power of the Buddhas, as well as the teachings of the thousand Buddhas of our aeon. It is represented by the Dharmachakra, symbolising the ‘turning of the wheel’ or teaching of the Noble Eightfold Path. It is a symbol of a universal emperor’s spiritual and temporal power. It is also represents one of the factors of enlightenment, which is perfect mindfulness, especially that of our own mind, thoughts, delusions and afflictions. 2. The Precious Jewel: an eight sided wish-granting gem, which fulfils all the needs of a universal emperor. This jewel has eight special qualities: it illuminates the night sky for hundreds of leagues; it is cooling when the temperature is hot and warming when the temperature is cold; it makes manifest whatever the holder wants; when thirsty it causes a fresh-water spring to appear; it has the ability to control the nagas, and other supernatural beings, as well as preventing natural disasters such as storms, floods, etc.; it gives off multi-coloured lighted which heals the various mental and emotional afflictions; it cures all illnesses; and it ensures that one dies a natural death, not an untimely one. It is a symbol of a universal emperor’s spiritual and temporal power. It is also represents one of the factors of enlightenment, which is perfect mindfulness, or perfect discrimination, so one knows what to abandon and what to keep in the mindstream during the spiritual journey to enlightenment. 3. The Precious Queen: the most beautiful and virtuous of all women. She is described as a goddess who is the epitome of someone: with devotion; without jealousy; who is the embodiment of fertility; who works for the welfare of all beings; who possess feminine wisdom; speaks the truth; not attract to sensual pleasures or material possessions; and does not have false views. She is adored by all. She also represents one of the factors of enlightenment, which is perfect effort. This is necessary to keep meditating until one gains spiritual attainments. 4. The Precious Minister: who has sharp intelligence, patience, and the ability to give wise counsel to the emperor. He is so attuned to the emperor that even before the emperor has spoken, the minister is already carrying out his command. He only wishes to support the Dharma, help sentient beings, and is an excellent strategist. He also represents one of the factors of enlightenment, which is perfect joy. This is also akin to the attainment of the first bodhisattva level, because you have come to an understanding of your own mind, which is like pouring ice-cold water into boiling water. The water stops boiling, as does the thoughts, projections, and delusions in the mind. He represents the path of the bodhisattva. 5. The Precious Elephant: who has the strength of a thousand normal elephants. He is white, with the perfect features that an elephant could have. He is majestic, graceful, and gentle, but in battle is fearsome, fearless and unyielding. He communicates with the emperor through a telepathic link. He represents one of the factors of enlightenment, which is perfect adaptability. This is important, as one needs to be able to adapt to the various mental afflictions as they arise, and suitably counter them. 6. The Precious Horse: who has all the marks of a celestial horse. Known as wind-horse, he is able to travel extremely fast, and can circumambulate the entire universe three time in just a single day. He is never fearful or startled, never makes a sound when galloping, and has extremely soft hairs on his body. He represents one of the factors of enlightenment, which is single-pointed concentration. This is important because without this form of concentration, once cannot engage in the analytical meditations that lead to an understanding of emptiness, and therefore enlightenment. 7. The Precious General: who has mastered the arts of war and always wins in battle. He wears battle armour and holds many different weapons. He tries to avoid battle, but when necessary fights, and never gives up until he has won. He is fearless, and courageous in carrying out the emperors commands and ensures the emperors army carries out their duties. He represents one of the factors of enlightenment, which is perfect equanimity. This is because he overcomes all warfare, which is akin to the battle between things were are attached to and things we have an aversion for in our minds. In short, what you are offering up is the highest of all temporal treasures and abilities, as well as the entire path of the Dharma. Doing so creates the causes for you to receive all of this on your spiritual journey towards enlightenment. I hope this helps. Thank you.
