Blog Chat Etiquette

These are some simple guidelines to make the blog chat room a positive, enjoyable and enlightening experience for everyone. Please note that as this is a chat room, we chat! Do not flood the chat room, or post without interacting with others.

EXPAND
Be friendly

Remember that these are real people you are chatting with. They may have different opinions to you and come from different cultures. Treat them as you would face to face, and respect their opinions, and they will treat you the same.

Be Patient

Give the room a chance to answer you. Patience is a virtue. And if after awhile, people don't respond, perhaps they don't know the answer or they did not see your question. Do ask again or address someone directly. Do not be offended if people do not or are unable to respond to you.

Be Relevant

This is the blog of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche. Please respect this space. We request that all participants here are respectful of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and his organisation, Kechara.

Be polite

Avoid the use of language or attitudes which may be offensive to others. If someone is disrespectful to you, ignore them instead of arguing with them.

Please be advised that anyone who contravenes these guidelines may be banned from the chatroom. Banning is at the complete discretion of the administrator of this blog. Should anyone wish to make an appeal or complaint about the behaviour of someone in the chatroom, please copy paste the relevant chat in an email to us at [email protected] and state the date and time of the respective conversation.

Please let this be a conducive space for discussions, both light and profound.

Prior to 1996, all Dorje Shugden practitioners and non-Dorje Shugden practitioners were in the same monasteries, the same hospitals, the same schools, the same government positions, the same kind of meetings/gatherings. They all went to the same Lamas but after 1996, when the ban was introduced and heavily enforced, then suddenly there were Dorje Shugden monasteries and non-Dorje Shugden monasteries. Dorje Shugden people cannot go to the hospitals, cannot go to the schools, cannot have the equal educational opportunities and jobs within the Tibetan community that non-Dorje Shugden people have.

In general, Tibetans are very poor and they can’t afford statues and beautiful offering items. Therefore, tsa tsas become a very practical and affordable object of refuge that they can put on the altar to make their offerings and worship.

“Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche: At the end of the day, education is brainwashing. Brainwashing is inevitable. We human beings love doing that. We are already brainwashed—we don’t know otherwise. So since we are going to brainwash anyway, it’s good to brainwash with good motivation and so that we can be kind, harmonious, and also decent. Becoming decent human beings seems to be not so much in the modern education agenda because, as we all know, modern education seems to be so much about what we can have. Human beings are defined by what we have, like cars and houses. And then modern education is also so much geared towards getting a job. There are very few schools that teach you anything other than what will benefit you in getting a job”

His friends entreated him to return to Amdo and they also gave him a letter from his mother. She also requested him to return to Amdo and had slipped one of her white hairs in the letter too. Touched by this, Tsongkhapa considered returning to Amdo for a while. However, when he contemplated deeper. he realized that if he left for Amdo, he would be disrupting his practices of mental discipline. As there was no benefit, he sadly decided not to return to his homeland. Instead he sent a thangka of a painting of himself to his mother in Amdo. When his mother opened it, the picture spoke to her and it was as if Tsongkhapa was there with her, which brought her great joy. In a letter accompanying the thangka, Tsongkhapa requested his mother and sister to build a stupa around the sandalwood tree which had sprung up at his birth. His mother and sister complied and from that stupa, the holy monastery of Kumbum developed.

David McCollester: Throughout history, the greatest remembered men of moral and spiritual conviction have all been ostracized, oppressed contrarians. Christ, Buddha, Lennon, Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln…etc. And all of their bodies met their end with a bullet from someone who misunderstood peace and tolerance. However, the world witnesses that the idea of the man lives stronger with each passing generation. This is the way of Love and the vibration of the awakened. The seeking and sewing of Love is not all rainbows and unicorns. It is a trial by fire. A test of resolve and commitment.

People cling to their miserable mental boxes and identity constructs, and lash out when they are threatened in any way. The ego is an insolent child like that. It is to be expected. Love always brings to the surface that which is unlike itself. It’s like a salve that draws out the nasties.

So, you’re in tough territory. Welcome aboard. Everyone who has different ideas, different bodies, different colors, different languages, even different species, are treated terribly by the sleeping masses. This isn’t just a religious problem. Life on Earth for the contrarian will hit you where the sun doesn’t shine and try to drag you down into darkness with it. It is how you take it that distinguishes you from the rest. Your own non-reactivity or reactivity becomes your testament and others are healed and enlightened just by witnessing it in action; amidst the vitriolic remarks, spit, physical violence, threats and vanquishment.

To me, you will always be a great man; a transcendent being.
I honestly don’t think you can change that, and the world, being what it is, is certainly not going to allow you to relax into it. So, be strong light warrior. It doesn’t matter if you wear the cloth of Buddha-ism or not, you will always attract criticism. It’s just vibrationally who you are and it’s all perfectly karmic. Continue to be the burning torch in a dark room Rinpoche.

What Am I Writing Now

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

This is powerful. We are in a great place and that is Kechara. Some in the past and present and maybe future may think otherwise. And that is ok. Everyone has their karma to contend with. But if we put our efforts in Kechara and it's our genuine efforts, it can be no different than other places and even better. Where we put our efforts is where we will get the results. I guess this illustration says it all. "The grass isn't greener on the other side. It's greener where YOU water it.". Where we 'water' it is the effort we put in. Since we are here, we should do our best instead of doing little or mediocre thinking there is a better place and this is just a transition place. Because maybe this is the best place but some of us don't see it because we are blinded by our projections. Just my thoughts. Tsem Rinpoche
