Emperor Kangxi and Wu Tai Shan

(By Tsem Rinpoche and Pastor Shin) China’s great history spans over five thousand years, and with 446 rulers and 67 dynasties, not many emperors stand out. However, there are a few exceptions and these great memorable rulers have been immortalised in Chinese folk culture and history books around the world. Emperor Kangxi (1654-1722) was...

Toyols: The Child-Spirits

Dear friends, Tales, myths and folklore are embroidered into the very fabric of society, especially in Southeast Asia. There is a wide spectrum of ghost myths in the region, especially in Malaysia as the result of the remnants of old animist beliefs that have been shaped by Hindu-Buddhist cosmology, the Islamic religion, as well...

Blog Chat Etiquette

These are some simple guidelines to make the blog chat room a positive, enjoyable and enlightening experience for everyone. Please note that as this is a chat room, we chat! Do not flood the chat room, or post without interacting with others.

EXPAND
Be friendly

Remember that these are real people you are chatting with. They may have different opinions to you and come from different cultures. Treat them as you would face to face, and respect their opinions, and they will treat you the same.

Be Patient

Give the room a chance to answer you. Patience is a virtue. And if after awhile, people don't respond, perhaps they don't know the answer or they did not see your question. Do ask again or address someone directly. Do not be offended if people do not or are unable to respond to you.

Be Relevant

This is the blog of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche. Please respect this space. We request that all participants here are respectful of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and his organisation, Kechara.

Be polite

Avoid the use of language or attitudes which may be offensive to others. If someone is disrespectful to you, ignore them instead of arguing with them.

Please be advised that anyone who contravenes these guidelines may be banned from the chatroom. Banning is at the complete discretion of the administrator of this blog. Should anyone wish to make an appeal or complaint about the behaviour of someone in the chatroom, please copy paste the relevant chat in an email to us at care@kechara.com and state the date and time of the respective conversation.

Please let this be a conducive space for discussions, both light and profound.

The best gift that we can give to the children is to instill dharma in them.
In this pilgrimage trip, Lew and family able to make offerings and do prayers together that created causes to gain the same qualities as per enlightened beings. Lew and Wei Theng decided to bring their children for this pilgrimage trip of Sri Lanka instead of other places is really inspiring and be a good example to many other parents to consider and make the same aspirations for their family.

Thank you Rinpoche and Lew sharing this wonderful article. This has opened my eyes to the beauty and significance of Buddha’s relic of such as Buddha’s tooth and hair.

Amazing! This lion really remembers and remembers fondly too. The scene ow he and his rescuer bond after few years is touching and tearjerking. We humans, have plenty to learn from this lion.

How cruel! “Everything done to her is an attempt at removing her from instinct and desire and what she wants and needs.” This expression really caught my eyes because I realise humans are capable of imposing onto others what they have not felt or not capable of enduring. When the table is turned, it will be a different story completely. Thank you for this sharing. I am glad I am a vegetarian.

Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion is equal to all sentient beings, regardless if they are a homeless, a friend, an animal or just a stranger. Rinpoche will make sure their basic needs like food are being taken care of. It is inspiring to read stories of Rinpoche helping others. Thank for this sharing.

This man does not deserve the loyalty of his dog. For whatever reasons or problems the dog might have brought him, this man can do better than this. I hope he will be penalised by the authorities for this act of abandonment.

This book “The Power of Habit” written by Charles Duhigg, ,have a useful advice about how to change at least some of our bad habits. Interesting review of this book…..We can develop the habits that can change our life and make everyday life possible for good or bad. Have positive thinking, focus on our goal , eliminate the non-essential and so forth to change ourselves. Many us have been trying desperately to break bad habits for a better. Charles Duhigg, an investigative reporter has did a research all through reading hundreds of scientific papers and interviewed many of the scientists has discovered interesting findings of how habit formation . It seem that by understanding the nature of habits we can change our habits. Scientific discoveries has found that why habits exist and how they can be changed. We must be the change that if we wish to see in the world. To progress in our lives it is impossible without change, and if we cannot change our minds set we cannot change anything.
    Thank you for sharing.

Amazing…… it really widen my knowledge to know more of this mysterious temple with fantastic stories behind it . The origin of the Temple of Sree Padmanabhaswamy is lost in antiquity which the locals referred to. This temple has been a fascination in India for many thousands of years and has concealed in mystery and fear having interesting legends surrounding the temple. Researchers discovered mysterious six vaults and unearthed mass treasures of golds etc.. It reminds me of Indiana Jones movie though. According to an ancient legend, there is an ancient curse on those who defile the sacred site and open those vaults which they did except vault B. Not until recently they managed to open after few attempts to open that particular vault .What was inside was amazing … an extra terrestrial unidentified flying object (UFO) and preserved mummies, and more has not been revealed so far. But I guess vault B contains even more incredible ancient treasures and even more surprising artifacts.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this amazing discovery.

Compassion motivates people to go out of their way to help the physical, mental or emotional pains of another and themselves. Practice loving kindness and compassion at all times nor matter where. Researchers have confirmed that compassion and can be cultivated with training and practice in long run. Compassion training may also benefit people who have social anxiety. Compassion brings great warmth and kindness to all of us.
    Thank you or this sharing.

Giving of Dharma is the highest form of generosity as per the Buddhist tenets. It is essentially the key to the doorway to liberation. Liberation from what? From the endless suffering of samsara, as depicted in the Four Noble Truth; birth, sick and death, as well as everything in between. If we cannot be the perfect vessel to give Dharma to others, the least we can do is to support such meritorious activities or organisation so that everyone will eventually be free from suffering through the practice of Dharma.

Thank you, Rinpoche and PNP for this powerful sharing on what drives habits and how to change it. The formation of habit depicted in the story of Eugene Pauly is quite relatable; just imagine how we drive from home to office daily using the same route, autopilot. Most of the people will not change or try new routes. Most people will react to the reward of a shorter travelling time to induce that change of route. This whole 4-steps guide to transformation works, which is why Waze (of Google) is so popular when it comes to going from point A to point B. People just switch it on because it gives exactly these 4 steps in a nutshell, on the phone.

Wonderful approach by former US president Bill Clinton to take up meditation as he knew the many benefits of it. After gone through few heart problems and surgeries, he has taken his exercise routine to learn Buddhist meditation. He even hired his own personal Buddhist monk to teach him how to meditate properly. Since then he has changed his lifestyle becoming vegan and he has been studying and practicing some forms of Buddhism too . He saw mindfulness as a cure to the stress of modern life and inspired few politicians to join him .
    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

The 14th Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and the Tibetan people. In the past, Dalai Lamas have also served as the political leaders of Tibet. Because of his stand regarding the ban on Dorje Shugden , has cause disunity, hardship. suffering and so forth among practitioner and non-practitioners all over the globe. Many countries are then avoiding him in reality , treating him as any other common world leader. The global political scenario is amazingly changing in China’s favour. Despite the development, China’s control of Tibet still remains a sensitive issue. Chinese government is more polite and allow religious freedom.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this.
