Where Does Leather Come From?

Dear friends around the world,

Please take five minutes out of your hectic day to read the article and understand the message it is trying to bring across. This really shocks me to the core and I am extremely sad to read this, we really took cruelty to the next level.

Every time we walk into a store and buy something made from leather, we are directly contributing towards the cruelty enacted upon these poor animals. Please everyone, please stop supporting cruelty towards animals, they are sentient living beings too who feel love and pain. Can you imagine yourself being skinned alive? Just the thought of it is painful, but this is what is happening to these animals, they are being skinned alive! And to add salt on wound, their limbs are cut off to prevent them from escaping, and all of these is done without anaesthetic, so you can imagine how painful and traumatic it is for the poor animals.

Please share this article with as many friends as you can to create awareness towards animal cruelty. Let’s stand up for these animals who cannot express themselves through words. Please always be kind to the animals, please always be kind to ourselves and stop hurting others.

Cows Skinned Alive For Leather Have Their Limbs Cut Off to Prevent Movement

The image above is a true statement from the fashion industry: in this sector, cruelty has no limits. Every time you buy a fashion item made from leather – be it a trendy handbag, a piece of comfortable shoes – please think about the tremendous cruelty that stands at the foundation of that product. This petition targets both the Chinese government – who has repeatedly failed to adopt animal welfare laws and has allowed this industry to thrive – as well as consumers worldwide, to take the pledge to go cruel-free and stop purchasing leather products.

The shocking image attached was taken in China, where countless cows are skinned alive for their leather. Their pain can hardly be described in words. In order to prevent these gentle creatures from escaping, often these beautiful animals have their limbs cut off; on other occasions, cows tails’ are often broken and a special powder is sprayed into their eyes, in order to force them to walk to the nearest abattoir (which could be miles away).

Even if your pricey pair of leather office shoes manufactured by a high-end designer are ‘Made In Italy’, the skin may still very well come from countries such as India (WHICH IS ALSO THE BIGGEST EXPORTER OF BEEF WHILE COW BEING THEIR HOLLY/SACRED ANIMAL), where there absolutely no regulations concerning animal welfare in place. This is what actually stands behind a pair of leather boots. Still think you look great in leather? Please reconsider. Those animals needed their skin to keep warm and their organs safe.

Please stop buying leather products from today. Consider opting for animal-friendly fashion items. A growing number of designers and fashion companies are offering items made from vegan leather, quality materials that do not harm animals or the planet.

Skinned alive, while you watch in agony.

There are alternative materials we can use for our shoes and bags. That is for sure.

Unfortunately, very few people are concerned for animal welfare. Nobody really care that the animals are in pain or that the leather shoes, wallet, belt and coat was derived from the skin of animals that have been sliced off animals and the amount of torture and pain is unspeakable. The only way around it is bring awareness to it just like what rinpoche is doing and hopefully with such graphic imagery, more and more people would be aware and come to avoid leather and fur products.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post. Is very sad to see we human being is so cruel because of our ignorance we create so much pain for all these animals I think is important to create awareness among the people in order to reduce this kind of trade to continue.

Totally devastated to see the photo of a cow being skinned alive and the limb being cut off. Just hope that more and more people will be moving towards leather-free products.

Why would we need leather to be used as our shoes? I am sure in these days and age, we can come up with some decent new products for our shoes without having to kill, don’t even mention skinned alive.

As Gandhi has said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” So compassionate New Zealand has taken its great stand to change people’s perception and feelings towards the poor animals, and discarding its veil of how the animals should be viewed, classified and treated, by passing its unprecedented amendment in its animal Welfare Bill, recognizing all animals as sentient Beings! Our wonderful Kindhearted Malaysia realizing that, “Life is as dear to a mute creature as it is to a man, just as one wants to live and not die, so do other creatures, as His Holiness, The 14th Dalai Lama has once written,” has followed suit with a new set of laws known as “The Animal Welfare Bill 2015” to protect the suffering animals, like New Zealand did! Meanwhile, please stop buying leather products and goods from now on! May we pray hard and hopefully look towards the whole World to follow such humane and sensitive needs for all living animals beings! Om Mani Padme Hung!

  8. Samfoonheei on Oct 23, 2017 at 1:49 pm

Oh dear …..shocking to see the suffering painful cow was skinned alive . For the leather which was sold to factories for consumers products like leather hand bags ,belts, shoes or anything that has leather made. Feeling sad how can this happening still ,right in front of the innocent children.. Hope all these will stop soon with the cooperation of the authorities and everyone stopped using leather from animals products .It will be wonderful if all consumers use leather free products. All animals do feel pain, please do not hurt them. Choose to be on vegetarian is the right healthy choice.
Thank you for sharing this article showing us what ‘s happening behind the scene which many of us wont know.

  9. Lew on Oct 23, 2017 at 12:31 am

This is very sad to know cows are skinned alive for the skin, and for that, their limbs are being cut off. 🙁 We need to stop the demand (or at least reduce the demand) in order to stop the supply. There are some corporations stopped using fur, and I hope more can stop using leathers too.

We should stop all types of suffering caused to animals. 🙏

  10. Fong on Oct 22, 2017 at 2:12 pm

It’s very horrifying to see images like this. But, I guess it i needed to wake people up to the fact of the cruelty behind the leather industry. It was very difficult to see the images being put up bu PETA and animal rights group but they are only showing the truth of what goes behind the scenes. It’s like if we do not see the whole fish on the supermarket shelf, we cannot quite relate the piece of fillet being formerly a fish swimming free in the ocean.

Some of the vegan leather available as handbags or backpack are beautiful and well, kinder. In fact, they are cheaper both in terms of dollars and cents and lives. Hope more fashion houses will follow Gucci’s lead to reduce use of animal skin/fur.

  11. Callista on Oct 22, 2017 at 1:31 am

    Oh my goodness….
The animal is being skinned alive with tremendous of pain and without anesthetic
    This is really horrible.
Please do our part, discourage people from using leather products.
    Om Mani Padme Hung

  12. yin ping on Oct 22, 2017 at 12:13 am

Leather products are very common in fashion line where we never stop and think where the leather comes from and what happened to the animals who contributed their skins for our unending greedy wants. With every pair of leather shoe we buy, we are directly contributes to the factory farm as well as slaughterhouse because animal skin is the byproduct of the meat industry too.

So if we are wearing leather, we are supporting animal cruelty. Animals are sentient beings too. They can feel the pain as we do and they deserved to live freely. We still can be stylish by adopting compassionate fashion, choosing non leather or synthetics fashion products.

  13. Lin Mun on Oct 21, 2017 at 9:22 pm

This is horrible and it is a shame that we human can do such actions that bring tremendous pain to the animals. We should stop using leather products and this will directly stop the demand of leather goods. I hope authority of respective country will implement rules to protect animals welfare. It is only when there are laws that people will stop such act.

  14. Irene Lim on Oct 20, 2017 at 10:46 pm

The pain is beyond words to see animals being skinned alive. Om Mani Padme Hum to these animals and the perpetrators.

  15. Stella Cheang on Oct 20, 2017 at 9:58 pm

Thank you, Nicholas, for bringing this heart-shattering info to us. I cannot imagine why on earth would these profiteers want to skin the animal alive. Cruelty and inhumane can’t even begin to describe these people. Let’s get this horrid info to more people so that they can exercise their power of purchase, and make a change in the fate of the poor cows!

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. Chatral Rinpoche was a highly spiritual being and a revered master of the Dzogchen tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He has lived for more than 100 years. He lived a simple life, living as a wandering yogi retreating in remote areas of India and Nepal. Rinpoche was also a strict vegetarian. He did saved millions of fish from certain death by setting them free in the ocean outside Kolkata,. Chatral Rinpoche once said…….I would be committing sin and I would be getting negative karma.
Eating meat in one’s diet is much different than eating flesh to liberate a being through supernatural powers. I am just an ordinary practitioner.
What he said was indeed very powerful . a great example that eating meat is wrong. By not eating meat ,we can saved more animals. Choosing to be a vegetarian is a right choice.
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche and Pastor Loh Seng Piow.

Its awful and very cruel. How can these people making killing of live snakes and fish as a game or competing each other to be a winner.
Inhuman act in front of spectators could be in hundreds as I could see and hear the cheering .How would anyone wish to eat a half cooked fish or snakes when the animal is still moving and alive. Horrific to watch that video .Hope some authority will put an end to these animal cruelty.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these article to create awareness so as more people who feel the pain themselves to be a vegetarian.

Kyabje Chatral Sangye Dorjee Rinpoche was a disciple of the great master Khenpo Ngakchung, he was widely regarded as one of
the most highly realized Dzogchen yogis. He was also famous for his great realization and strict discipline.
A true Buddha in person ….. Kyabje Chatral Rinpoche remained for 103 years in this world helping beings immeasurably through
his vast wisdom mind and boundless compassionate activity. He rescued millions of animals and was a strict vegetarian for many years.
When he was in Lhasa ,he saw many animals being slaughtered for meat as foods and that’s where he decided to became vegetarian for
the rest of his life. Many of his disciples also followed him to became vegetarian. He has always against people eating meat and alcohol.
Kyabje Chatral Sangye Dorjee Rinpoche said. ,,,,,,,,This killing of animals for the dead person is an obstacle for the spiritual evolution of the dead and an impediment on the path to liberation. A good teaching .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this beautiful article of such a great Master of all time.

That is cruel , what those dinners did to the poor octopus. I will never eat it ,how can they do t. Maybe that’s the way they cook it and eat. Errr not me
Have heard from my friends when they visited Japanese restaurant ,which they saw. It seem nobody from their group dare to eat it.
First time watching this video live cooking of the octopus , horrible act, so inhuman. Those dinners seem to be have a lot of fun , How can they
be so selfish to torture other beings for their pleasure . But I do hope the authority can stop these type of cooking in future. Choosing to go no
vegetarian is the right choice. Never harm or hurt any animals .They deserved to live like us.

Thank you, Rinpoche. We are so blessed to have the statues of Buddha Nageshvaraja and Loma Gyonma here in Kechara Forest Retreat, Malaysia. When we prostrate to Buddha Nageshvaraja, it will help us purify heavy negative actions. http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/dorje-shugden-wangze-for-power-and-influence.html

Dear students and friends, I have previously blogged the complete commentary and prayers for two of Dorje Shugden’s emanations, which are Trakze, the wrathful form and Gyenze, the increase form. Ever since then, I have been receiving many requests for teachings on the other forms of Dorje Shugden. So, it is with great pleasure that I would like to offer you this explanation and commentary to Wangze’s practice, along with a condensed prayer to this form of Dorje Shugden.

    2. Tagpu Pemavajra and Visions from Gaden Heaven
    http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/tagpu-pemavajra-and-visions-from-gaden-heaven.html

Dear friends around the world, Yesterday I was inspired to speak on a topic related to the enlightened Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. I wanted to address one of the reasons why the Tibetan leadership says we cannot engage in this practice. According to the Tibetan leadership, Dorje Shugden is a spirit and when we rely on him, we are actually engaging in spirit practice. In doing so, we break our refuge and monk vows, and are no longer considered a Buddhist. That’s according to the Tibetan leadership.

    3. Kukai Kobo Daishi: The Esoteric Monk of Shingon Buddhism
    http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/kukai-kobo-daishi-the-esoteric-monk-of-shingon-buddhism.html

Kukai, also known posthumously as Kobo Daishi, was an influential and beloved figure in Japan. He played an instrumental role in establishing and spreading the Shingon Buddhist doctrine (also known as Shingon Mikkyo), one of the few esoteric forms of Buddhism outside Tibetan Buddhism, which he received from his root guru, Hui Kuo (746-805 CE). Hui Kuo was a close disciple of Amoghavajra (705-774 CE), a renowned 8th Century Indian monk. Kukai himself is considered to be one of the eight patriarchs of Shingon Buddhism.

    4. Helena Roerich: Writer, Philosopher and Peacemaker
    http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/art-architecture/helena-roerich-writer-philosopher-and-peacemaker.html

The graceful and talented Russian writer, artist, theosophist, explorer, healer and philosopher, Helena Ivanovna Roerich was born on February 12, 1879. She was the beloved wife of the famous painter, Nicholas Roerich. They were both disciples of Master Morya, the teacher of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (Madame Blavatsky), founder of the Theosophical Society. With the help and collaboration of various teachers from the East, Helena and Nicholas Roerich founded the Agni Yoga Society in New York in the early 20th Century. The Agni Yoga Society advocated the philosophical teachings known as Living Ethics.

    5. Wonderful Okinawa
    http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/art-architecture/wonderful-okinawa.html

When the word ‘Japan’ comes to mind, people will usually think about Hokkaido, Tokyo, or Osaka, as these prefectures are the most popular tourist destinations. Another prefecture that should not be left out on any trip to Japan, one that is distinct from mainland Japan with its similarly ancient culture, different languages, art and distinct cuisine, is Okinawa.

    6. Top Ten Events and Festivals to Visit in Malaysia
    http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/travel/top-ten-events-and-festivals-to-visit-in-malaysia.html

Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity is reflected in the country’s packed calendar of events and festivals. Most of these celebrations have religious or cultural origins and many are also designated as either state or national holidays. Celebrated by everyone in the country, the colourful festivities which observe the ethnic traditions and beliefs of the varied backgrounds of the population are what gives Malaysia the label of “Truly Asia” that it is so well known for. The national events and festivals of Malaysia are occasions for family reunions and for joyful community get-togethers. They are world-class examples of how diversity can be inclusive and celebrated. Many of these days of observation follow the lunar calendar, thus the dates they fall on vary from year to year.

Have heard of this group is called the WSPA, non-profit animal welfare organization before but did not much of it till I read this article. Amazing…what they did, its seem they have been helping animals by looking to their welfare as well., Their vision is a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty. They do amazing work around the world,…….and are creating awareness to everyone and every where in every countries. They helped to repair and installed equipment and launched campaign on disasters preparedness , providing aids to those in the disaster area, to stop bears hunting in South Korea and so forth. Love what they did to help those animals been suffered in the hands of entertainments exploitation .

What a beautiful sight with 2 different species a piglet and a tiger cub, hugging, playing and enjoying each other together. No one would imagine that yet they did having a good time . Very unusual to see such a case and that behaviour is a learnt and habituated process.
We can change our behaviour for the better. I do enjoyed watching the video…..so cute both of them.

All birds are fascinating creatures, hummingbird are special small, colourful birds with iridescent feathers. First time coming across these beautiful birds. They are among the smallest of birds, and most specialized nectar-eating birds. Little birds with big appeal. Most of them live in tropical rain forests. These sparkling jewels of summer are easy to love but with much care heavy responsibility of offering them fresh, healthy food and safe, clean feeders. Feeders must be kept clean and free from mold and fungus else these unique birds might develop serious fungus infection. This infection will causes the tiny birds’s tongue to swell and cause a slow suffering death. Proper care and clean is the basic , save them from extinction before its too late.
Thank you pastor Loh Seng Piow for sharing this informative article. Care and love for all sentient beings nor matter how small there are.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

This is so good. I need to remember this and not allow people to do this to me anymore. Being kind is one thing, but when they are doing it and it harms, it is not a matter of kindness anymore but taking advantage.

A gorgeous Dorje Shugden painted in traditional art style of China. Chinese art has flourished for over 5,000 years and highly sought after. This form of Dorje Shugden is sitting on a seat as you see painted in his chapel (Trode Khangsar) in Lhasa, Tibet. Dorje Shugden can be on a seat or Lion. Dear friends, The Dorje Shugden oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery was authorized and blessed by both Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. He was a favorite among high lamas for his smooth trances and clear prophecies. This video is a one-of-a-kind where you see the Choyang Dulzin Kuten oracle take trance of the peaceful form of Dorje Shugden wearing the robes of a high lama giving teachings, blessings and transmissions. Very sacred and rare video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pawS1TMOe8k

The Huffington Post extensively covers the Dorje Shugden issue. I had no idea that this article was being written. I was not contacted, not asked for an interview or asked for any comments, and then it was published and my students alerted me to it. So it was a very, very pleasant and encouraging surprise to read such balanced coverage from such a reputable news website. You can read it here: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=149806

Recently Beng Kooi and Martin on behalf of myself and Kechara was lucky to have audience with His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He lives in around Paris, France. His Holiness is 91 years old and very healthy and alert. He was the 101st throne holder for Tsongkapa and was the head of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism and was very successful during his tenure. He is a strong practitioner of both Sutra and Tantra of Je Tsongkapa\'s tradition and a master of all Buddhist knowledge. He holds steadfast to his protector Dorje Shugden very strongly. So we can see even the highest throneholders who are masters of Sutra and Tantra also practices Dorje Shugden knowing the benefits.

Beng Kooi and Martin brought photo albums of Kechara Forest Retreat/Kechara and updates on Kechara and our works. His Holiness was very pleased to listen and offered some gifts back.

This is a beautiful picture and the great blessings bestowed on us from His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal.

I always like my rooms to smell clean, fresh, woodsy and a bit like the forest. my favorite types of essential oils to burn daily or as an offering to the Buddhas are Juniper, Cypress, Black Spruce, Peppermint and sometimes Rosemary. I like the smell of the forest, woods and wooded areas very much. I\'ve been using essential oils in my rooms for years. I don\'t necessarily purchase the brand you see in the picture as I buy any brand as long as it\'s made naturally. Tsem Rinpoche

In the bitter coldness of Yachen Gar, Tibet, several nuns are practicing meditation. You can see many small single \'huts\' in the background. They do this yearly and throughout the year. It is very inspiring to see people practice even under extreme conditions because they realize how samsara is so full of deceptions. Praise to the Dharma that liberates us with truth and practice. What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

These are the heartbreaking scenes we see over and over again, that we share in the hopes of telling the stories of those who otherwise would have suffered and vanished from this earth without a trace. This is Norma Jean. Free for a little over five months, she knew more happiness than millions of her sisters ever will. But she couldn’t escape the fate genetically programmed into her as an egg producing machine. She seemed more lethargic than usual this morning, so we brought her inside to administer fluids and antibiotics in the hopes of pulling her through until we could get her in to see our vet. She couldn’t hang on. She died this evening shortly after this video was taken, severely infected from the rotting egg yolk adhered to various organs throughout her abdominal cavity. Like virtually every single one of her sisters, caged or free range, rescued or not, she paid the ultimate price for eggs (from FB)
