Last night Tsem Rinpoche went for an outing with some of His students until past midnight, along way the back, Rinpoche would stop the enotourage of cars whenever he saw stray dogs in order to feed them. Rinpoche always carries along in the car boot a lot of dog food – dry food, wet canned food, milk, and the plates and bowls, so that whenever stray dogs were spotted, especially those that looked skinny and were seeen wandering around looking for food,  Rinpoche would ask His students to feed the dogs, and many times Rinpoche would watch to make sure that the dogs were eating well, only then would He moved on.

So as usual, a white and brown dog was spotted along the way, and upon further inspection, he only had three legs, and had a gaping wound at his back, Rinpoche was very concerned because that means the dog would have a tougher time looking for food in the wild and would suffer further, so after asking His students to feed the dog with a lot of dry and wet food and milk, Rinpoche had a discussion with His students on what to do and how to help the dog further.

It’s 3:30am in the early morning and Tsem Rinpoche was standing on a highway with a few of His students following the injured stray dog spotted along the highway, waiting for the tranquilizers and carrier to get here. Poor doggy only has three legs, and a gaping, festering hole in his back. Then, after five hours of running around, and six tranquilizer pills later, doggy is finally safely on his way to the vet! Look at how much pain he is in. Despite that, no crying from him and no struggling in his cage, and he didn’t puke on the winding driving down.

May we be able to help all animals in pain and relieve them of their sufferings.

Update: 24 June 2013

Dear Rinpoche,

1. The vet has been cleaning Sonam’s wound for the past 2 days. It is a repetitive process because they have to see if any maggots are left after each cleaning, and to see how the wound progresses each time.

2. Today, there was no more sign of maggots, which is a good sign.

3. The vet will monitor the healing of the wound for the next 2 days and let us know how it is doing. The vet will also let us know approximately when Sonam can be discharged.

4. Pastor Susan is looking for a temporary home for Sonam who can take him in temporarily so he doesn’t have to be boarded at the vet. More space for Sonam and it will also be less cost.

Thank you
BK

Update: 24 July 2013

Dear Rinpoche
Sonam is doing well..havent growled at me lately. He is eating well and clean little fella. He will go into the crate when he dirty the floor.
Tq. Susan

Update: 9 August 2013

Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing this article. Rinpoche always show us good example so that we as students will learn from him. We must have love for all beings in the world, no matter there are animals or human. This is truly the heart of a Bodhisattva. Many of us can only say it, action tells everything. Just read Pastor Jean Ai’s comment, it’s been three years, Rinpoche never stop rescuing and feeding stray dogs. Rinpoche’s love has no boundary, no limitation, no condition, true compassion. This is what we need to learn and develop.
Actually, my wife and I start trying, we keep a bag of dog food in the car as start, wherever we see dogs or cats or small animals, especially those are locked in cage, we chant mantra an blow on them. I find that by doing this, dogs bark at us less. Last time I was very scared of stray dogs, coz they chased me and barked at me. Now, whenever I see stray dogs, I just stay calm and chant mantra and try to blow at them. If I have food with me, I will feed them, stray dogs don’t bark at me anymore. They can sense it.
Thank you again Pastor Seng Piow for the article and Rinpoche for the unconditional love. We have a lot more to learn from here. _/\_

When it comes to Rinpoche, feeding and taking care of dogs is not a one-off activity…I’m posting this in 2016, three years after this blog post was published and Rinpoche is still helping strays in this manner.

Those around Rinpoche will know this well – stopping off by the side of the road to leave food for dogs, especially those who are pregnant or recently gave birth. They will have more mouths to feed and will also be weaker and more vulnerable, having more lives to take care of and having to produce milk. For this reason, Rinpoche will carry food in his car so we can stop whenever we have to, to feed hungry strays. It’s a simple, easy way that everyone can engage in to help other sentient beings with no agenda to receive anything in return.

  5. Ck siah on Oct 28, 2013 at 6:55 pm

URGENT help needed. Sonam has been sterilized and boarded at the vet for 1 week now. He has recovered from the procedure. I will not be able to take him in anymore and high possibility I will need to release him back to where he was found.

Sonam seemed fine with dogs but is barky. He barks at even the people who feeds him daily. Due to resource and space constraints, the noise will put the other dogs in jeopardy of complaints by neighbors.

I am hoping someone will be able to foster or adopt and work with him before I have to decide to release him by end of this week.

Please contact me at susan.lim108@gmail.com for any help you can provide.

  9. Albert Ratchaga on Jul 23, 2013 at 9:08 am

3am while everyone are sleeping comfortably in their bed, what’s Rinpoche doing out there? Why aren’t Rinpoche stay in his house? rest in his bed? why is Rinpoche still out there? Many people asked me why does Rinpoche always sleep so “early”? Well, this is the answer.

Rinpoche always wanted to help the beings who are in suffering, he does not do it only when he’s convenient or when the situation is favourable to him, Rinpoche does it anytime and everytime. When a life is suffering, it will not wait until when you are free only they suffer, it will not wait till you woke up from the bed only they suffer, if to wait until we are ready to save them, it might be already too late.

Rinpoche has great compassion to everyone especially dogs, because they can’t talk, they can’t protect themselves when they are down with sickness, there is no proper healing process they can take, so Rinpoche will always make sure the animals are well taken care of, even for they strays, Rinpoche always has lots of dog food in the car, so that he can feed them anywhere when he sees them. Even to the strays, Rinpoche will never let them be and pretend to see nothing. He will step out from his car and feed them, to make sure they have a full stomach. Rinpoche’s car always full of the smell of dog food, but he never mind about it, in fact, he loves it, because these dog food are to save lives.

  10. Wan Wai Meng on Jul 20, 2013 at 11:14 pm

So many animals are saved by Tsem Rinpoche and Rinpoche is tireless in making animals are taken care off and healed . And for me the care does not stop there, what Rinpoche does for the animals and benefitting them goes way beyond just healing and feeding them I feel, so all animals helped by Lama are extremely fortunate.

To be very frank, I’m not an animal lover but because of Rinpoche’s kindness, and his love and care towards animals, I think becoming more warm toward animals.
It was just another night that we are driving back to Kechara Forest Retreat, it was Rinpoche, Seng Piow and myself in the same car.
Suddenly Rinpoche said: stop the car, that’s a hungry dog by the road side.
I jumped down the car together with Jean Ai, Beng Koi and a few others who followed Rinpoche in cars at the back. When we are approaching this poor dog (Sonam) with dog foods that Rinpoche always carried around in his car, Sonam was standing up and trying to run away. It’s only den we realized he have only 3 legs.
Rinpoche was extremely concern about him and Rinpoche was thinking how can we help him? Beng Koi and a few came out with an idea that we should bring Sonam to a vet and get treatment. We contacted Pastor Susan, who’s in charge of Kechara Animal Sanctuary, and she came immediately from KL to rescued Sonam.
We spent at least 3-4hours and finally we got him into a cage and sent to doctor.
By this act from Rinpoche, actually taught me that regardless who you are or what you are, everyone have right to be heal and happy. Rinpoche can scarified his own pleasure, time just to help someone, even an animal.
When we approached Sonam and he ran away actually makes me realized some beings just have no karma to received. Even though we are doing this base on good intention for him to get well, but due to his bad karma, he actually run away from help.
Many of us are the same, when sometimes something good happened to us, we actually run away from it, beacause of our bad karma, we couldn’t see the benefit.
It was a great night and i learned a lot from it. Thanks Rinpoche again.

Wow, this dog is in such a bad state, its incredible though from what happen is that despite its injuries it doesn’t moan or struggle. I am really happy Rinpoche and others helped this dog when many of us would not have even taken notice, thank you for showing us what great compassion Rinpoche has and that animals too derave the kindness from us. I hope the dog finds a good home for some to take care.

How many of us will spontaneously stock up our car with dog food going around town looking for strays to feed ? It has never crossed my mind to do that! Melissa and I have just decided that we will from now on keep some dog food in our car cause it will come in handy! A very small change in our lifestyle but certainly very beneficial thing to do. Thank you Rinpoche for always showing us ways we can benefit others !!
And dear Sonam , I pray for your speedy recovery ! You definitely did have lots of merits to have met Rinpoche !

Rinpoches shown us how his really care and love to those animal are facing suffering and putting in action to reduce their suffering as much as possible. Thanks for Rinpoches teaching and shown us the practice how we can do more if we wanted to.

Thanks Seng Piow for sharing, we always sleep, online, watch DVD etc at 3.30am but Rinpoche and team saving a injure stray dog at this moment…

Normally if we are driving at this hour, we always no much care about the situation beside us but Rinpoche due to his compassion to all sentient beings may saw the injured stray dog and save the dog.

Rinpoche and team is the Real Example for us to generate more compassion towards all sentient beings…

May the dog recover soon and able to find a adopter to take care of the dog…

  18. AdelineTan on Jun 26, 2013 at 6:01 pm

Sonam in deed has such good merits to meet Rinpoche at such a critical time of his life, he does not have to suffer any longer once he is under the care of Rinpoche. May he will have swift and complete recovery from his injury and lots of love and care from the people around him.

  19. Joy on Jun 26, 2013 at 4:19 am

I am glad we were there with Rinpoche when Rinpoche spotted this poor mumu now named Sonam by Rinpoche. Sonam means “merit”… it is awesome that this 3 legged wounded doggy had the good karma to receive help from Rinpoche and us… some dogs do not. Why I say “good karma” because from us rescuing him to be treated means there is a higher chance of Sonam living longer, healthier, happier life and Dharma imprinted in him although he may not comprehend it now.

Sonam and many stray dogs also kinda remind me of the many different people who received help from Rinpoche or who could have received help from Rinpoche but ran away because they felt their comfort zones, attachments threatened. This is rather sad because it is like giving food and wanting to help a hungry stray who is scared due to ignorance. Now I understand the meaning of no karma to even receive good things… wonder what they have done to create such a karma.

This is so touching, that Rinpoche always show much care and love to animals. It is so sad for this doggy was injured and Rinpoche saved this doggy from street. Hope this doggy recover soon and no need suffering of the pain.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post.

Deer Rinpoche, hope the dog is not feeling any pain when the vet is cleaning the wound for him and hope that he will find his temporary home for him to rest to speed up the healing speed. whenever I look at the picture of his wound i couldn’t imagine how pain was he at that state. Rinpoche can you explain to me why would living things suffer like that.

  22. HelenaC on Jun 25, 2013 at 12:52 pm

Its is so sad to see them suffering without help in the middle of nowhere. But Sonam is very lucky and fortunate to meet Rinpoche and the fellow students the night. I am sure with Rinpoche’s blessing Sonam will be recover soon.
By staying up at 3am to help a doggie is truly shows compassionate and care to other beings. It’s really touched. I am gonna put some dog food in my car too like Rinpoche 🙂 Thank you for the wonderful post and help for Sonam.

  23. MartinC on Jun 25, 2013 at 5:59 am

There are quite a number of things that Tsem Rinpoche does continuously without fail and one of them is looking out for homeless, injured and unwanted animals. And over the years Rinpoche has personally seen to the rescue of live fish (heading for slaughter) from restaurants, birds that are unwanted due to injury/deformity and of course countless dogs. And from Rinpoche’s example, it is very common for Kecharians to care for animals wherever they go.

That the dog was spotted to begin with was due to the fact that it is a very common practice for Rinpoche to stop by the roadside and feed stray dogs and it is only by this, that Sonam came to be noticed.

Sonam the injured 3-legged dog will now join many others who are under Rinpoche’s care. What is noteworthy is how Rinpoche and a handful of Kecharians committed to saving thing dog – an exercise that started at 3am in the morning and lasted some 5-6 hours. For me, this is one of the most unique traits of Kechara that Rinpoche has instilled deep into all his students.

To me, whenever Rinpoche requests for the students’ help in an animal rescue, it is as much for the animal as it is for us the students because the act of rescue serves also as great opportunities for us to practice compassion and gain merits. And this applies to anyone, not just to Rinpoche’s students. Anyone can also gain merits by simply being kind to animals and where possible, go a bit out of the way to help them.

Very good to know that Sonam will be well.

  25. uncle eddie on Jun 24, 2013 at 4:13 pm

So deep is the compassion of Rinpoche, whose virtuous mind always wishes to see all living beings be free from suffering, irrespective animals or human beings. That’s he reason why, even at 3.30am in the morning, we can still find Rinpoche feeding an ailing and hungry injured dog with only three legs, while waiting for the tranquilisors to take effect before carting it over to the vet clinic for treatment. The dog is said to be suffering from a big fester hole, but yet no crying nor struggling were made when Rinpoche’s people later on safely carted him over to the vet clinic. Heartfelt thanks to Rinpoche for his immensed act of compassion for saving this poor suffering animal’s life.

  26. Patsy on Jun 24, 2013 at 2:55 pm

Sonam was very lucky that Rinpoche saw him by the roadside and went down to feed him, only to discover that he is three legged and had a bad wound. Poor Sonam, he must be hungry and in pain.

Thank you, Rinpoche, for reminding us to be compassionate at all times by setting a good example for us to follow. Another life is saved because of Rinpoche’s compassion. May Sonam wound heals quickly.

  27. Jace Chong on Jun 24, 2013 at 1:03 pm

Thank you Rinpoche for saving the dog and showing us again and again, what we can do for others.

No matter dogs, cats, birds…injured beings feel pain just like we do. If we didn’t manage to stop all the pain, at least we can stop inflicting pain on others.

The most easiest thing we can do now is to stop eating meat, stop demanding any food that requires people to kill for you. This is not only a way for us to practice compassion for others, but also a healthy living style.

    Please be a vegetarian now.

Animals are part of us, they have feelings, emotions and all the senses like us but they only do not speak human language. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the blog with us. Heart wrenching to see Sonam in pain. This morning on the way out from house i see a poor kitten laid and dead on the road, must had been hit by careless driver. It is true that whatever that happens is due to one’s karma but it is still painful to see these. We should stop harming animals and one of the way to do so is become vegetarian. If we can sympathize what the animal is going through why are we still able to enjoy the meat on the plate.

    Dear all,

We received this update from Beng Kooi with regards to this doggie which Rinpoche has named him Sonam from the vet earlier.

Sonam is doing well at the vet, he is a young boy but overall healthy. The wound on his back can be caused by a dog bite that became inflamed and infected or can be abscess that has ruptured then became inflected. Vet has administrated the relevant medication and will observe Sonam for 3 more days.

Will keep u guys inform whenever we get any more news.

  37. Sharon Saw on Jun 22, 2013 at 10:27 pm

So many animals are suffering because of human beings’ lack of care. We can say that it is the animals’ own karma that they are in that situation but since we are all in samsara, we are suffering, so we should help one another, especially those who have no voice, like these poor animals.

Sonam was very lucky that Rinpoche saw him and rescued him. I am sure he must have some good karma for his path to cross with Rinpoche. May he get well soon!

Poor thing… lucky Rinpoche saved him or he would not have survived on the streets for long with that type of injury.

Rinpoche always shows us consistently that we must be kind to animals, everytime Rinpoche goes out, there’s packets of dog food in the car in case Rinpoche sees a hungry dog there will be food to feed it. Nowadays, I too keep dog food in my car to feed any dogs I see on the streets. Rinpoche shows us by action, so we too must follow suit as we all do aspire to have the great compassion of our Guru.

I believe that Rinpoche had named him Sonam, which means merit in Tibetan. I think he is very lucky to have met Rinpoche otherwise, it would have been a long struggle to survive by the roadside. Being born a stray animal has a lot of pitfalls and is a very lonely and scary existence. Meeting kind and compassionate people like Rinpoche and his students is really a rare occasion.

It is very easy to neglect and ignore the sufferings of animals when we often ignore our own closest friends and family. It is definitely great to care for animals because it is training for us to care for others without an expectation of a return. When we don’t hold on too tightly that care and kindness to be reciprocated, we have spiritually evolved to another level.

Rinpoche always show us his compassion not just to us but also to animals.
We r very fortunate to have such a guru with folded hand Ithank you Rinpoche for teaching us.

Thank you Rinpoche for letting me witness how Rinpoche treats these little souls. Feeding them with extra food so that they will have food for the next few days.

Even saving this little guy, Sonam(merit), asking a few of us to bring him to the vet.

I am glad that this little fella has got the medical attention that is needed. I am so happy for the group that stayed on to take care of Sonam. May he be blessed with speedy recovery, and have a good rebirth in the future.

Thank you for the sharing Seng Piow. Hoping for the fortunate doggy quick recovery.Fortunate as to meet up with Rinpoche and those who cares…

Rinpoche shows compassion 24/7. At 3 am, Rinpoche is rescuing an injured dog on the highway. Then he waits with the dog until the tranquilizers, to ease its pain, arrive. Meanwhile the poor three-legged dog,in severe pain with a gaping wound on his back, is fed.Much do we learn from this situation. That when we want to show kindness, we go all the way.

Thank you, Rinpoche, for always reminding us to be caring and compassionate at all times , by your fine example.

  51. Sean Wang on Jun 22, 2013 at 2:25 pm

Rinpoche always shows kindness towards animals and will help any animal across the street. It is due to actions like these that inspired me to be part of Animal Befrienders Coalition. The doggy must have been in so much pain. It is nice to hear that the doggy has been saved.

Imagine what would’ve happened if Rinpoche did not save the dog. It will continually suffer and now because of Rinpoche’s help the dog can be happy.

  52. Lucas Roth on Jun 22, 2013 at 1:36 pm

Rinpoche has saved another life from suffering, poor doggie must have been through so much pain and his/her injuries were really bad. i hope this doggie is okay now.

Thank you Rinpoche for showing us what is the qualities of a Dharma practitioner must have that are Compassion and wisdom. These two qualities are the foundation for becoming a Buddha and achieve full enlightenment. Rinpoche you always using skillful mean on Dharma and also shown us that once we engaging in Dharma practice we must let go of comfort zone. With folded hands, Hecelus Tan

So sad 🙁 this dog must be in so much pain. I am soooo happy that Rinpoche had saved this dog from the streets. I am sure that it will become better now. I hope it does. I wish that more people would be as kind to animals as Rinpoche is, the world would be a better place for animals.

Dear Rinpoche, I think this doggy is so badly injured because of a fight. I must say, this cute doggy is very lucky to be rescued by Rinpoche. I hope its injury is not in a serious condition and also may its injury heals fast. I hope its okay.

Dear Changzo Beng kooi and our wonderful Kechara blog team including writers, researchers and technical team,

With the deepest respects, lit incense billowing, prayers and great faith and some tears in my eyes, I have humbly published the story of Lord Atisha the incomparable for the world to read on our blog-site. I am just so happy to have Him on our blog-site. He is so holy and the guru of gurus. May all be blessed by Lord Atisha and Lady Tara by seeing this post and reading about Him. May all gain renunciation, bodhicitta and sunyata completely by studying Atisha’s teachings.- http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=158941

Lord Atisha’s benefits, teachings, writings, presence, works, life, sacrifice and pure monk-hood really is such a jewel among jewels. 900 years later He still inspires us so much.

The pith of the Dharma is to transform the mind (within lojong teachings) and Atisha exemplified and stressed this throughout His life. Lojong brings the mind of an ordinary person to an exalted being (bodhisattva). From attachment to samsara and wrong projections to seeing samsara for the poisonous nature it really is and brings us to easily develop necessary qualities of endurance, patience, tolerance, compassion and acceptance. Lojong is a most important teaching and essence of Lord Buddha’s path. The Lam Rim composed by Atisha embodies this very much. It is very much worth your time to read. It is in this post for your convenience.

Thank you all for your hard work towards such a beneficial post.

    Gratefully, Tsem Rinpoche

    P.S.

    1. I love the new tab system in this post you have where every content can be seen so easily at a glance. Makes it easier for the readers. I really want our blog visitors to benefit.

    2. I love all the prayers listed by Atisha you have made available. You made it convenient for the downloadable books regarding Atisha for everyone. I am so happy to have Atisha’s Lam Rim here to be accessible for everyone which is so holy. I love all the videos and I really like the gallery with many Atisha pictures of thangkas and statues. That was a nice touch. A real triumph of a post!!

Tsi’u Marpo: History, Narrative & Myth by Cameron Bailey, December 28th, 2015

According to the Tantra of the Red-Razored One the being that would become the deity Tsi’u Marpo was born during the dispensation of the Buddha Kashyapa as the Khotanese Prince Chorwa. Chorwa is said to have had faith in Buddhism and to have taken monastic ordination. One day, when he was meditating alone in the forest, the daughter of the local king was bathing nearby when she was bitten by a venomous snake. Chorwa was able to save her life by giving her a medicinal antidote, but when two evil ministers saw this, they spread the false rumour that the monk and the princess were making love.

The king, outraged by this, sent men to kill the monk. The princess attempted to dissuade him by telling him the truth of the matter, but he did not listen, and out of protest she vowed to be reborn as the hostile spirit sister of the monk in a future life, then threw herself off a cliff, committing suicide, in protest. Chorwa, meanwhile, fled to the Himalayas, and his mind became downcast and full of evil intentions. He then proceeded to go on a killing and raping spree, but eventually the king’s army caught up to him and stabbed him to death. Before he died, the monk swore to be reborn as a tsen demon, and the “executioner of all beings.”

Thereafter he hatched from an egg produced from the union of a deity named “Lekpa” and a female tsen. When he was born, he had six other tsen demon brothers growing inside his body – (2) the “black obstacle might demon” in his head, the (3) “divine might demon” in his bones, (4) “rock might demon” in his body heat, (5) “knife might demon” in his blood, (6) “serpentine might demon” in his pus, and (7) “defiling might demon” in his ‘messy rotten garments of flesh.’ Together they became the seven wild tsen brothers.

Tsiu Marpo is a Tibetan worldly god, Warrior Class (drala), that functions as a Buddhist protector deity. The practice was popularized by the teacher Ngari Panchen Pema Wangyal (1487-1542 [P1669]). Ngari Panchen was a teacher originating from Mustang, Nepal, and he principally practised the Nyingma and Sakya Traditions. He popularised the cult of the protector deity Tsiu Marpo which was likely an adaptation of the local Bon mountain protector unique for the town of Lo Monthang called Tsengo Dragpa Gyaltsen. The mountain is located due west of the Mustang capital and Dragpa Gyaltsen remains to this day the special protector deity to the Mustang royal family. As a Terton, the principal ‘Terma’ Revealed Treasure cycle of Ngari Panchen is known as the Ngarpan Terdzo.

According to popular accounts, Tsiu Marpo became known as the special protector of Samye Monastery in the 17th century after the long time protector of the monastery, Pehar Gyalpo, moved to Nechung next to Drepung Monastery just outside of Lhasa. The practices of Tsiu Marpo as a Buddhist protector have now been adopted by almost all of the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

This is an interesting article. Through the lens of Carlos Castaneda, we are introduced to the Yaqui Indian’s sorcery and the uses of drugs and herbs that are associated with it. The acute description of Carlos’ teacher, Don Juan and the landscape of Mexico in his books made him popular and rich. Allowing him to crystallise Don Juan’s shamanistic concepts into a modern teaching, i..e the Tensegrity. Carlos’ life was not short of entanglements; his background had 2 versions, he had several marriages but ended up only the first on was valid and legal, and more critically, the authenticity of his works came under question. Despite strangled marriage and hearth issue, Carlos lived till the age of 72, left behind sizeable wealth as well as a legacy of New Age Movement.

I think it is very important that our government has the foresight and take strict action against rudeness and cyberbully in social media. While online provide lots of opportunities for many sectors but it also comes with threat if we abuse the functions. Many people are not responsible when sharing information and some may intentional use it to defame, instigate or even create hatred against others. We as user have to be wise in our actions or we will be fine by the government for wrongly sharing or exposing info. Glad our local authority taken steps to prevent before it the negative impact get worse.

Venerable Ajahn Chah a Thai Buddhist monk was an influential teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest. Ajahn Chah’s early monastic life followed a traditional pattern, of studying Buddhist teachings and the Pali scriptural language. His father passing has caused him to think deeply about life’s real purpose. He left everything and set off on mendicant pilgrimage. Despite all the hardships he had gone through many more disciples increased and that where he started the first monastery . His teachings is indeed simple yet a profound and has attracted many Westerners. Venerable Sumedho is the first westerner came to stay with him. Venerable Ajahn Chah did travel as far as England and America to spread his teachings to the west. He left the world a legacy of his life teachings, experiences, and realisations of the Buddhadharma. Wow …it seem that more than a million people from all over the world attended his funeral which include the Thai royal family. His teachings is still well know till today…..he was a man of compassion .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this interesting post .

    Dear friends,

We all go to school, dress, learn, work and have careers to be rich, famous, travel, have great relationships, eat delicious foods, stay in the best houses, park in glamorous hotels. We all do this to be happy. To have ‘freedom’.To be at peace. Yet Kate Spade had a child and loving husband, extremely successful business, rich, connected,’free’, talented and very famous commits suicide by hanging herself with a scarf on a door knob in her high fashion New York apartment. Om Mani Peme Hung. Her maid found her. She ate the best, was seen with the best and lived in the most ‘exciting’ city in the world and yet at 55 had enough and ended it. Why is it people who have EVERYTHING are not happy? Why is it we push ourselves, our kids, our friends to emulate them when we know that is not where happiness is? Why do we keep deceiving ourselves?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XLPTbHg2Vw&feature=youtu.be

Massive celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain had a award winning show, travels to all the exotic places, has a beautiful girlfriend, lovely 11 year old daughter, rich, succesful, famous, ate the best foods, has a top best selling books, has so many powerful influential friends, known the world over and has ‘freedom’ to do what he likes. We all strive to be like him. To have what he had so we can be ‘happy’. But the question is at 61, being a fit Jiu Jitsu enthusiast hung himself on a belt of his bathrobe in his Paris five star hotel. He didn’t even leave a note. Om Mani Peme Hung. What else is missing in his life? Why so unhappy? Now what was missing?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WLEHciltIo

Why do we push ourselves to emulate, admire or try to become like these people? Why look up to what they had? Why wish to live our lives similar to their life? Obviously and blatantly it shows travel, fun, friends, relationships, money, ‘freedom’, education, fashion, food and having fame brings nothing. Nothing but adds to our sense of emptiness. Because outer possessions and relationships can NEVER solve the inner dilemmas, loneliness and a sense of impermanence. We become more empty in fact. In truth they have to hide their pain even more because why aren’t they happy since they have EVERYTHING? They have pretend for the sake of all they sacrificed to get where they are and for the camera. They had to perpetuate the lie that being famous, rich and all that makes you happy when it does not. They have to pretend to be happy yet they have everything and they are not happy. A powerful lesson to learn before it’s too late for us. Sometimes they stop pretending as these two persons did as well as many in the past and many in the future. Sad to say.

We need to teach ourselves and our kids that wealth, job, money, travel, fun, friend and relationships DEFINITELY are not the answer to human happiness. And if we push ourselves and others towards this direction, if anything happens to them, we are a part of it. Why perpetuate this? Happiness in in the mind. The only thing that can make us happy is in investigating and transforming the mind. To bring our mind to live on a higher level of consciousness. That discipline, samaya, vows, patience, right livelihood, compassion, generosity, meditation and wisdom are the true wealth and we should strive towards that for true happiness. To be aware of karma and to stop creating further negative karma. There are many spiritual traditions that can help us in this. The important thing is to do something about our mind before our time is up. Time is short. Practicing Dharma all the way is the best we can ever do with our short lives. To encouarge others to practice dharma. To create dharma places and encouraged loved ones to dharma. If we really loved those we love, we would make sure we lead them to dharma. We would guarantee their happiness in that way. To realize renounciation, compassion and gain wisdom. To merge with our Buddha-yidam and our Buddha nature within us. To be within a spiritual community where we encourage each other, because alone we will not have the discipline for sure for now. To practice. This is so important now.

As I progress in life, I am ever so grateful for meeting my teacher, receiving teachings and practicing. I am grateful for having something that has true worth in my life. As I am not any different than anyone else, my guru made the difference for me and in me. I am grateful to my teacher.

I am grateful for my spirituality and a place to practice it in Kechara Forest Retreat and many other places like this. A retreat sanctuary to protect me from my own mind. A place I can find real happiness if I apply myself.

    Tsem Rinpoche

P.S. I mean no disrespect to the two persons mentioned who passed on, but I am making a point that it may be too late for them although they had everything, but it’s not too late for us. Forgive me. We must make meaning of their deaths by ascending to a higher consciousness of thinking which is refuge in spirituality and mind.

Its has proven that the Drukpa Kagyus of Bhutan propitiated, worshipped and invoked Dorje Shugden . They were encouraged by none other than Jigme Norbu, the 4th mind emanation (incarnation) of Ngawang Namgyal, who is the lama who founded the Bhutanese nation. Dorje Shugden is not a Gelug-only Dharma Protector as is claimed but in reality fact, it was widely practised amongst the Kagyu, Sakya and Nyingma traditions.
His Holiness the 4th Zhabdrung Jigme Norbu even composed prayers to Dorje Shugden. If Dorje Shugden’s practice was evil and harmful, why would this Drukpa Kagyu high lama, compose prayers to Dorje Shugden and in his vast collection of works. All these are stated in the collected works of Zhabdrung Jigme Norbu, published by the National Library of Bhutan. So this evidence showed that the Kagyu do propitiate and invoke Dorje Shugden centuries ago.
Thank you Rinpoche and writers for such insight post to clear all the doubts and misconception about Dorje Shugden.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

It is important to merge our minds with the Buddha\'s mind. Start by letting go of saying Dharma is hard. Dharma seen as hard is a concept we hold onto in order to excuse ourselves to improve our minds. Dharma is not hard, but samsara is hard. See the truth in this before time runs out. Tsem Rinpoche

Environment is stronger because when you are in a spiritual environment with other spiritual brothers and sisters, the chance to learn and transform is much higher. If we rely on our own willpower and go at it alone to practice spirituality, very small chance we can succeed. Because most of the time we don\'t have the willpower and our willpower does not sustain us. That is why we have monasteries where clusers of people live together spiritually to enhance each other and the whole for thousands of years. That is why we have spiritual communities like Findhorn and Kechara Forest Retreat so that we are in a spiritual environment and being in this type of environment encourages us to grow inwardly. It gives us strength and support and in turn we give others strength and support. Tsem Rinpoche

Daily do your prayers/mantra to Lord Manjushri as it\'s a powerful blessing on a daily basis. It is so important to have sharp mind, good memory and quick wisdom and Manjushri can bestow this. I have heard many tell me that Manjushri\'s practice is very effective. We must also do Manjushri\'s intensive retreats at least twice a year. It would be very beneficial. Sacred mantra of Manjushri: Om Ah-Ra Ba-za Na-Dhi

A beautiful painting of the enlightened protector Dorje Shugden in the very rich tradition of Aztec art of South America. I wanted to commission something in this rich tradition which is filled with spiritual journeys into other worlds, magic, purification, the supernatural, astral visitations, gods and other dimensions and it has manifested. I have successfully combined the divinity of Tibet with the rich artistic tradition of the Aztecs. The artist we had is amazing. We have many more beautiful art pieces here for you to enjoy and download: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=144924

In the Lankavatara Sutra, Lord Buddha says: \"For innumerable reasons, the Bodhisattva, whose nature is compassion, is not to any meat. Thus Mahamati, whenever there is the evolution of living beings, let people cherish the thought of kinship with them, and thinking that all beings are [to be loved as if they were] and only child, let them refrain from eating meat. Mahamati, meat is not eaten by anybody for any reason, there will be no destroyer of life. Thus, Mahamati, meat-eating I have not permitted to anyone, I do not permit, I will not permit.\"

Super neat footage of Patty the Bigfoot!
In 1967, Bob Gimlin and Roger Patterson stumbled across an incredible sight whilst out in Bluff Creek, in the California wilderness. At a creek which had been freshly washed-out by recent floods, they witnessed a female Bigfoot swiftly traverse the rugged landscape. Since their filmed encounter with the Bigfoot, who has since been nicknamed Patty, many have disputed the authenticity of their recording but no one has been able to successfully prove that it is a fake. Credits for this video goes to entirely to windvale for the original footage.

The children and their little well-wishing voices are adorable!! It is a must listen. They recite prayers to Dorje Shugden to invoke blessings for everyone for the New Year 2018! At one point, they sprinkle some of the drink into the air as per tradition as an offering to Dorje Shugden. Shugden's practice in Tibet has been strong for four hundred years and is continuing to grow. Happy New Year (Losar) to everyone. May everyone have peace. Sarva Mangalam!

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
