Guess what they got?

Dear friends,

When we want to do something we normally always have fear of the commitment, time, energy involved and even greater fear if we would be successful. We are worried about what others might think of us, if our work will be accepted by friends, family and peers. If we even have what it takes to do it is the question in our minds. That’s normal. Don’t wait though because time does run out.  I think none of us have what it takes to do anything if we don’t start. We learn along the way. We explore, try, fail, get up and do it again till we master it. It’s like as kids when we first learned how to walk. How many times did we fall before we can walk as we do now. Fear based on lack of experience is normal. How will we get experience if we don’t start. How will we perfect our craft waiting for everything to fall into place. Nothing fall into place, we have to make that happen through sheer hard work.

Taking care of animals is no easy feat. It almost seems like a thankless job but luckily society is having different views on animals and their welfare now. It’s getting better.  This is due to the brave souls who are activists for animal rights, the thousands of animals sanctuaries set up by compassionate people around the world and them educating the public. We have to let people know what we are doing by starting something and doing it. We have to ‘prove’ to people we are committed by starting and keeping at it. There is no failure, only not starting is the real failure. We have to let people know what we are doing and the help we need through social media and word of mouth. Embrace social media and don’t be resistant. Embrace begging for what we need. No dignity lost but confidence gained and our works fruitioning. Most important is that we do something. Our commitment and drive and sincerity will touch someone’s heart out there. We don’t need EVERYONE’S help if that is what we are afraid of, but just the few right persons that comes along to help and donate.

Please read this great article about Jeremy Wagner who donated his farm to an animal rescue/rehabilitation center! Wow! Kudos to Jeremy! Kudos to the animals rescue people who believed in themselves and the welfare of animals to start something up that a compassionate and generous person like Jeremy Wagner can donate to! If we start something and let people know what we need, we can find help. There are rejections, but ignore those and keep going. Life is full of rejections, so what! We can find like minded compassionate people to help eventually. If the animals rescue people never did anything or started anything, then there would be nothing to donate to. The moral of the story is to start and don’t be afraid. If we do, others will come and help. But we have to let them know. If we don’t start, then nothing happens.

Tsem Rinpoche

P.S. The second post below is about another wonderful person who shows so much love and concern to animals. I like the way she fundraises for the supplies. She list everything out very transparently and it’s easy for us to understand. Two great lessons to be learned here. Beautiful people who take care of animals.

Never hurt or damage or eat animals.

Broken Hope Guitarist Donates Farm to No Kill Animal Rescue

Jeremy Wagner, founding member and guitarist of the heavy metal band *Broken Hope, has decided to donate his whole rural Illinois farm, buildings and all, to an animal rescue and rehabilitation organization. The death metal guitarist made the following statement on his Facebook fan page:

“Today I made the biggest donation of my life. I signed off and gave away my entire farm to the animal rescue rehab group I’ve been working with since I purchased the property last summer. I’m too busy to manage and enjoy the place, but it does my heart & soul good knowing I have now given a refuge and paradise for many animals who will be given help and love and new homes for many years to come. My generosity and good will for the benefit of animals will never stop. Giving my farm away for free was a super-huge sacrifice, but it was an awesome one and it won’t be the last time I do it. In this life money doesn’t mean shit if you don’t do good with it. So I do as much good as I can before I leave this rock. Cheers!”

Wagner will still have a hand in helping the organization, when he has the chance to visit on occasion. Since last summer they have rescued 40 plus dogs, dozens of cats, rats, raccoons, and a rooster. With new stalls, new electric water and heat installed in the barn, horses, cows and other livestock that would have been destined to die will be saved.

Wagner definitely has a big heart, this animal rescue will go a long way to help countless dog, cats and animals live happy lives in a beautiful place they can enjoy. It goes to show that while Death Metal and Metal music might hold a dark stigma to outsiders, it proves that when you look outside of appearances there are kind and caring rockers too!

Wow …That is inspiring of a compassionate man Jeremy Wagner giving away his entire properties to the animal rescue rehab group .With these big farm which he owns will definitely able to help every homeless and abandoned animals. He is just aguitarist of the heavy metal band and he realised joy and happiness through giving(.In this life money doesn’t mean shit if you don’t do good with it)……..well said by Wagner.
Hope there will be more compassionate and generous people be inspired by Wagner .

Jeremy Wagner is a very compassion and generous man. It is a very inspiring act to donate his farm to be an animal rescue and rehabilitation organization. Many people would have just keep it to generate profit but he showed us that helping the animals and giving them freedom and chance to live is more important than anything else. We should not only think for the benefit of ourselves but extend it to all living beings. Something that we should remember and practise always.

“In this life money doesn’t mean shit if you don’t do good with it. So I do as much good as I can before I leave this rock.”

Jeremy Wagner’s words are wise and full of depth. He realises that to focus out on the welfare of others is the key to one’s happiness. Money can be a distraction that enhances our selfish pursuits, bringing us nowhere near peace and happiness.

Animals can’t voice out their sufferings and are often abused. Mr. Wagner’s generosity bring hope and a sense of relief to the animals. Hopefully more people will be inspired to do more for animals.

“None of us have what it takes to do anything if we don’t start.”

I like this statement/quote a lot. It is so true. Just start and do it. The worse that can ever happen is we fail, we make mistakes but we also learn from it. Start again and again. Try again and again. It’s better than staying stagnant and just sitting there doing nothing but let the world pass by until it’s our time for us to go.

Another celebrity who donate their wealth to a charitable humanitarian cause. We can change the world on many humanitarian and environmental issues, one step at a time and it begin by us starting.

  6. Beatrix Ooi on Dec 17, 2015 at 9:58 pm

I am so happy to read about this article, it was very kind of Jeremy to donate his entire farm away for a good cause. I am also very glad to know that there are still people out there who really care about the animals.

Most of the animals around the world are tormented to death, literally. We humans always have this kind of mindset where humans are the most superior and that animals are inferior to us. This is a very wrong thinking, every single living being should be treated with equality. Just because animals can’t talk it, it doesn’t mean they are in abide in the lower rank than us, we must also remember humans were once apes, we are considered as animals too.

I hope more people will come to realise that animals deserve respect too, we must stop taking advantage on them,

  7. Edward Ooi on Sep 5, 2015 at 11:09 pm

    1) We have to start something in order to accomplish something else. It is important that we do not let our ideas remain as ideas, we must take a step forward so that we have a greater chance of accomplishing them. When we say what do we want to accomplish in life, we better do it or it will just be another lie. Do not fear to fail in life, we will fail somehow and somewhere in life and besides, we can do it all over once again. Keep striving for your goals and you will never have to regret doing it.

    2) We must not let our ego, fear, jealousy, laziness, anger and hatred control us, never. Because when we let these negative emotions control us, we might hurt the people around us and we won’t be able to think logically. Why? Because when we are angry, all we want to do is hurt others or ourselves, but when we are calm, we are able to think positively and logically. So it is also important for us to stay calm all the time.

    3) It is true that whenever I hear these words (heavy metal artists) I will automatically think of people who are high all the time, cold-blooded and people who take drugs. I never thought for one moment that a heavy metal artist would do something so compassionate that most people will not do it. I guess I should change my projections towards other things. Never judge a book by its cover.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Posts like these give me hope for the world, reminding me that it’s not such the big cynical ball of gloom I sometimes think it is. 🙂

To think a heavy metal rocker would do such a generous act…. how cool is that?! The world is full of subtle, pleasant surprises. We just git to look in the right direction. 😉 Thank you, Jeremy and Claire for being such good people! The world would be lost without humans like you.

Thank you, Rinpoche, for sharing this post. 🙂

    Your humble student,
    Keng Hwa.

  9. Lucas Roth on Aug 23, 2015 at 2:56 pm

Rinpoche is totally right. Hard work into something you believe in and keeping your work consistant with commitment. Especially with animals, because they can’t say thank you. But they can show it so there is something there. With your work being shown to the world and how people can see you and how you work for what you believe in and how you set an example that shows you have beaten the fears that Rinpoche talked about. You created your own success.

I love it when those successes are in working with animals and helping and saving them. People that do that truly have a kind heart for those who have less rights and cannot speak. They understand life and how it is not just us. I kind of thought that it was kind of ironic on how a death metal guitarist can donate something so big to help life. Oh well thats life, full of suprises. So I say thank you to that man and how he has helped. Work with animals to help them truly makes me happy.

So that man’s work has been showed off because he is doing what he wants and it looks good because he has worked for it and like Rinpoche said if you don’t start at all that is the biggest loss. Both Jeremy and Claire are doing good work and it truly makes me happy to read these stories and articles about helping and spreading love to all life forms with people that understand that there is more than one type of life form that matters in the world.

  10. Julien Roth on Aug 23, 2015 at 1:38 pm

Its always so nice to read articles about positive things. Especially when it comes to animals. I love animals and i only want the best for them.

Knowing that there are people like Jeremy and Claire in this world really puts a smile on my face because i know that this is the start to better animal welfare. When people help animals, others will follow. We all need to remember that.

I just want to say, i like what Jeremy said when he posted on facebook: ‘In this life money doesn’t mean shit if you don’t do good with it.’ I think this is very powerful as many people are selfish with the way they spend their money, and people like Jeremy shine out as very good icons to the world for many people to follow.

What Claire does reminds me of Kechara Soup Kitchen! Feeding the homeless is just as good as feeding dogs. Claire is so kind to take the time out of her personal life and weekends to help animals. She spends her own money to cook for the dogs. How inspiring is that? I want to be able to contribute to the world like that in the future.

These two posts show us that if we are sincere and if we really care about something and passionate about it, our family and friends will support us one way or another.

If we start something and it failed at least we know we have tried and we can try to to better the next time. It’s better to fail than not trying at all. It’s the fear of failing that keeps us from doing anything. Thinking about it won’t matter much, but doing it matters the most.

Thank you Rinpoche for always inspiring us.

Guitarist Jeremy Wagner, who donated a farm to an animal rescue and rehab organization, has this to say : ” It does my heart & soul good knowing I have now given a refuge and paradise for many animals who will be given help and love and new homes for many years to come.”

It is heart-warming to read about how some brave individuals, like Wagner and also Claire Nash( who cooks a special meal for each of the residents of a dogs’ home on Sundays),have taken the extra step to help beings who can’t speak up about their needs and suffering.

These stories inspire us to be committed enough to plunge in and do the necessary for a cause , like helping and rescuing stray and homeless animals and giving them a home and maintaining that home or shelter. In fact, it can be extended to any worthy cause, where we can make use of the social media to create awareness and support for what we want to do or are doing.Thinking of the happiness that will result from what we are going to do is good enough.

  13. Joy Kam on Aug 12, 2015 at 1:38 am

These two post just goes to show that if we are sincere and if we really care about something, people will feel our genuinity and people will donate and give. We definitely must do our part and keep trying. Thank you Rinpoche for your kind words of advice on starting something, a project, whatever we are passionate about, just start doing it and get it going because by procrastination due to fear and our insecurities is never gonna get us anywhere.

If we started something and it failed at least we know we tried better than not trying, not knowing, not learning anything. I will keep this words of wisdom to heart and apply it daily…”There is no failure, only not starting is the real failure.” Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring post.

Thanks Rinpoche for sharing these wonderful blog post.

Both Jeremy and Claire are inspiring! It’s glad to know that there are getting more and more people around the world focusing out from themselves to others and animals, because that’s the way to live a meaningful human life.

A guy with a big heart. Jeremy showed selflessness as a model to society that compassion over animals

  17. Jacinta Goh on Aug 6, 2015 at 11:17 pm

When I was reading this blog post, the name Jace Chong came into my mind. She is doing exactly what Claire has been doing, i.e asking for funds to take care of her dogs/cats/tortoises and as well as keep updating us about it through FB. It seems easy but actually it needs tremendous time and effort to do what what she has been doing for those animals who are under her care. A big round of applause to her and her partner Khoo too.

In essence, I think Rinpoche has made it clear that in order to have a successful KFR or success in any other projects under Kechara, we should join in forces to promote Kechara to others especially through social media, skillfully.I believe, it will be better if we can carry ourselves well too, as ‘action speaks louder than words’. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing Your thoughts on this.

    • Jace Chong on Aug 9, 2015 at 12:26 am

      Dear Jacinta,
Thank you for you for your kind words. Both Khoo and me still have a long way to go but like Rinpoche mentioned in the post, we must start something somewhere.

I have a lot more to learn to do better for the animals. Thanks Rinpoche for always giving practical guidance and sharing many inspiring story on this blog.

      Thank you!
      Jace

Buddhist art has a rich and intricate tradition of expressing the divine iconography of awakened beings. They are not just beautiful works of art but contain powerful symbolism and are representations of the stages of an awakened mind. Therefore, they serve not just to entice our senses but also to invoke the presence of these awakened beings, empower our meditations and plant powerful blessings into our mind stream. The e-books featured below contain a treasure house of precious knowledge about Buddhist art, iconography, pantheons of deities and so forth. These e-books serve to guide people in their artistic representations of the divine and also in personal practice. I hope you enjoy reading them and come back to them again and again in your study of Buddhist iconography.~Tsem Rinpoche

The most famous Vajrayogini pilgrimage site I think is in Nepal. Tsem Rinpoche has written many articles about Vajrayogini in Nepal. But did you know in India, there are also a few Vajrayogini temples? One of them is the sixty-four yogini temple in Hirapur, Odisha. It is a very ancient temple for people to worship the yogini.

I don’t know much about Vajrayogini until I came across one of Rinpoche’s blog post “Starting On Vajra Yogini NOW!” 2 years ago. Since then, I paid more attention to read and understand the posts that related to Vajrayogini.

Vajrayogini practice is considered the most suitable for people of these degenerate times due to the stronger desire. And Vajrayogini has ability to transform desire energy into enlightened virtue. That is most encouraging and inspiring when Vajrayogini appeared to HH Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche and promised him that those who received Vajra Yogini practice from him, and inclusive of the following 4 generations, would be taken to Kechara Paradise within 7 lifetimes. From here we can see Vajrayogini is so compassionate and wanting us to be free from suffering soonest possible. Of course, we should not forget our precious guru in this spiritual path. Without our guru, we may not have opportunity to learn and practice dharma. Without our guru, we know nothing about Vajrayogini and her sacred practice.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful post that let me develop a strong faith in Vajrayogini.

Human is the biggest destroyer of our living environment. In the process of development, many trees are cut down and the wildlife animals lost their habitat. Eventually, the wildlife animals extinct and the weather becomes warmer as the eco-system is disturbed. It is a good news to know that India in planting more than 66 million trees in 12 hours to try to save our planet from human destruction.

When disasters strike, it is normal that we will be running for our lives, leaving for a safer place. When we are running for our lives, are we also taking our pets with us? When the flood happened in Houston, Texas, many pet dogs and cats were tied up and left behind to die, this is extremely cruel.

The 17th Karmapa escaped from China and went to India thinking he could learn the Buddhist doctrine from qualified masters. However, this was not the case as these qualified masters are not easily accessible. He has expressed his disappointment and frustration in a video he has recorded. The 17th Karmapa was sad because he could not do what he is supposed to do, i.e. to teach Dharma. It is sad to know a high lama like him is not able to do Dharma work as much as he wants to.

Pastor Antoinette Kass first came to Malaysia all the way from half a globe away – Luxembourg to meet His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche in 2011, after getting know and learning Dharma from Rinpoche just from online resources (Youtube, blog, Facebook…). She has always been spiritual and had visited places like Findhorn in search of spirituality. On the first meeting, Rinpoche had a nice chat with her and presented her a Vajrayogini statue to encourage her in the Dharma path.

She did not have personal contact with Rinpoche after that, and yet from that single meeting of just one hour and her promise to Rinpoche to do more Dharma, she has been keeping her promise and is very consistent about it. Since then, she has been coming back to Malaysia yearly to volunteer and learn in Kechara (most of the time did not have the opportunity to meet Rinpoche), and lately made plans to relocate to Malaysia so that she can pursue her Dharma aspirations full-time.

This is a miraculous White Tara statue from the Majapahit empire in Indonesia. The statue was made 800 years ago and its was hidden in a well with gold and silver as offerings. When it was discovered and being owned by a collector named Yan, two lamas wanted to bless it. It was Lama Chokyong Yeshi Dorje, who is a Bhutanese oracle for the deity Tsiu Marpo (In Gelug tradition: Kache Marpo), and Lama Rangbar Nyimai Ozer, the founder and President of the Bodhivastu Foundation in the United States. During the blessing ceremony, there are miracles manifested and realise that this white tara statue is a terma. Lama Chokyong Yeshi Dorje saw a mantra from the back of the statue and wrote it down. This image, shot by photographer Ding Zuhe and called, “Monk’s Posture,” won first prize in the China category for National Geographic’s 2017 photography contest. Here are six people, all in some form of sleep, lethargy, stupor, or unconsciousness. There are two women (the one in the foreground looks older), and four males: a child in the foreground, a teen or young adult to the far left, and a young man plus a slightly older one in the right corner. Ding leaves open to interpretation how they feel; for all we know they might be comfortable. However, it doesn’t look like as if they are. Then we have the monk: sitting in a classical Zen posture, his head slightly bowed, cross-legged, dignified, a noble contrast to the six sloppy engines of flesh splayed out around him.

The current form of Naro Kachö Vajra Yogini appeared to the Indian Mahasiddha Naropa after he meditated intensely on her practice inside a cave. He beheld her glorious form in a vision. This unique form later became known as Naropa’s Vajra Yogini or Naro Kachö, as it had never existed before. Later, in Tibet, His Holiness Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche also had visions of Vajra Yogini. His vision differed slightly from the vision of her that Naropa beheld. In the original Naro Kachö form, Vajra Yogini looks towards her pure land named Kechara. However in Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche’s vision, she looked straight at him, symbolic of the deity empowering him to bestow her practice onto many people in order to benefit them. The practice of Vajra Yogini belongs to the Highest Yoga Tantra classification that leads to tremendous inner transformation and can even grant Enlightenment within just one lifetime.

This is a really good documentary where Bill Porter traveled into the Zhongnan Mountains where many had came to enter into hermitage. The hermits he meet all are very kind. The first thing they do is always offer him some food or hot tea even though they have very little themselves. They are so generous and kind. Then when they start to talk about their whole experience being a hermitage, I cans see that all of them have a gentle expression on their face which is the expression of content and peaceful. Who knows that they have none of the money, branded items, and big cars can live so happily with content. While many those who have everything but they still feel depress and some had even committed suicide. This is a very good documentary to widen our mind and think about what is the purpose of life.

The Third Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso, was born to a rich family. At the age of three, Sonam Dakpa Gyaltsen, the ruler of Tibet, and Panchen Sonam Dakpa recognized Sonam Gyatso as the reincarnation of Gedun Gyatso. He was escorted to Drepung monastery in a great procession and was enthroned. He founded many monasteries in Mongolia, Eastern Tibet Sonam Gyatso became the abbot of Drepung monastery and the abbot of Sera monastery. He was bestowed by the Mongolian ruler as The third Dalai Lama. He travelled extensively throughout Mongolia, performing miracles and teaching, spreading the Dharma till his death.
Thank you Rinpoche for this short biography of the third Dalai Lama.

Gendun Gyatso the Second Dalai Lama was born to in a noble family. His father was a well-known yogic practitioner. Gendun Gyatso was a special child ,at the age of four he could remembered his past lives and told his parents he wished to live in the Tashilhunpo monastery. He could even told his parents, his birth name and his father was Lobsang Drakpa, which was Tsongkapa’s ordination name. .At age of eleven he was recognized as the reincarnation of Gendun Drupa, the first Dalai Lama, and was enthroned at Tashi Lhunpo monastery. Interesting read.
Thank you Rinpoche for this biography of the second Dalai Lama.

In 1989, Bill Porter, also known by his pen name ‘Red Pine’, travelled to the Zhongnan Mountains in China to meet some of these hermits and learn about their way of life. This resulted in his publishing the work titled Road to Heaven: Encounters with Chinese Hermits in 1993. 25 years later, Bill Porter travelled back to the same mountains to see if life there had changed. The outcome of this particular trip was a documentary titled Hermit, about a modern-day journey into the heart of the hermit tradition in China. This is a must watch documentary with so much to learn to enhance our lives which will give us hope as we are all drowning in materialism’s false promises.~Tsem Rinpoche

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Wrathful Dakini Ucchusma-In the form of wrathful dakini, Ucchusma has 3 eyes; with both hands holding a vase with nectar at her heart level, her hair loose, and no ornaments. She wears a garment of black silk, with two legs, feet together, standing on a lotus and sun disc. This deity functions to remove negative energy and pollutions from body, speech and mind. The practice was conferred by a Dakini to Drupangsa. -Mantra: Om ar-kham zir-kam bu-ma-na-se ou-cus-ha-ma ma-ha tro-da hung phet

Stunning photo of offerings on my shrine photographed by Victor Choi. The lighting is beautiful. Offerings of food, fruits, drinks, flowers and incense are made on my shrine daily. For me the shrine is a portal to the Enlightened Beings and connecting to their blessings. Blessings to accomplish positive things in my life for others and myself. We do need this connection very much in our unpredictable lives where can experience so much anxiety, pain and a feeling of senselessness. We should never lose our connection to the Enlightened Beings and be firm about it. We will eventually need them no matter how \'good\' things seem now. Today this photograph taken is beautiful and I wanted to share it.

May everyone who visit my page here be blessed, your obstacles cleared, be healthy and have a long life.~Tsem Rinpoche

We have to discipline ourselves in order that our mind can allow the Buddha Dharma to take root. When it takes root, our lives will change for the better. What we perceive in the world around us is dependent on the attitude within us. Never give up improving on ourselves because that is the true road to peace and happiness. We are worth it. Others are worth seeing us in our best.~ Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Precious opportunity in Kechara Forest Retreat! "As Kechara Forest Retreat is a sacred land, filled with holy and blessed statues and many holy items, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche encouraged Kecharians living and working in Kechara Forest Retreat to embark on a spiritual pilgrimage of its holy sites." ~Tsem Rinpoche

We have many outdoor sacred images of various Buddhas. The ones that were visited were Tsongkapa, Nageshvaraja, Loma Gyoma, Tara, Nagarakshasa and then back to Tsongkapa. At each location circumambulations and lamp offerings were done. We walked the vast land while chanting Migtseyma mantras. The very elderly followed to each location in cars. Kechara Forest retreat is 70 acres of land located in rural Bentong, one hour from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. ~Tsem Rinpoche For more information: www.tsemrinpoche.com
