Tsem Rinpoche: If we don’t learn dharma, then when obstacles arise in our mind which is often, we cannot apply dharma remedies and dharma methods. When we just work and eat and live and not learn dharma, then we can only apply secular methods which will only yield temporary results. Hence samsara continues on and on. It is important to read/listen to the many articles here on dharma and refresh ourselves and discuss here together without winning or losing, so that our knowledge can grow. With knowledge, when obstacles arise, then easier for us to apply dharma methods and remedies and solve our problems to continue. If we continue this way, we will advance. Tsem Rinpoche

For Od Howell – Thank you so much for sharing and your interest in His Eminence’s aunt Princess Nirgidma. Princess Nirgidma is indeed a remarkable and very intelligent lady who could hold her own with the men.

Pastor Jean Ai shared that “she had a traditional Torghut upbringing but thanks to her father who believed his children should have a Western education, she was also visionary for her time. I mean, an Asian woman married to a French diplomat? And fluent in French, and as well as English, Chinese and Russian? And holding conversations and intellectual discourses with men in a time when women were to be seen and not heard? Talk about forging a path for Mongolian women.” http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/me/my-great-aunt-the-princess.html

I’m sorry to inform you also that His Eminence has never met her and is not in contact with any of them in the family so we can not help with your request any further.

I wish you all the best with your research on Princess Nirgidma and looking forward to your fruitful results in the near future.

The Bionic Woman never remained quiet and hide or avoid – I LIKE PEOPLE WHO TAKE ACTION and not watch and remain silent when something can and should be done. I guess taking action to me is an expression of compassion in action and that is why we are Buddhists/spiritual. We have to be Buddhists in action, not in name only. Whatever religion we believe in or are theists, we are still human who can take good positive action to make a difference and we should make a difference. We should always try to make a difference. Life is not about only good things for ourselves, but the difference we can make in others’ lives. This is so important. ~ His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche

    (Thursday, Sep 18. 2014 12:32 AM)
Thank you Rinpoche . The narration of the relationship between Milarepa and Marpa was so entertaining that one will remember it always.
The training that Milarepa has to undergo reminds me of the Shaolin Temple shows where the student is made to carry water or rocks from distance river or quarry and how the master made the student work tirelessly to train their mind, to clear away the preconception mind one has.
It is so like us to have this attitude. I have seen this happening to people where for example they did something good or credible they have this projection that others should “look up at them” or “treat them like a VIP” and when all this does not happen they get angry and their ego comes in and they create so much trouble for others .
It is true that upbringing plays a big role . For example if a little toddler happens to walk and trip and if adults rush quickly to pick them up and start saying “oh you poor thing ” and then tells the child “let us beat the floor cause the floor made you fall” and the adult then goes to use hand to “beat the floor” what the child learns is “it’s never my fault, it’s always the fault of others”. This is crazy but I think most of you have seen adults doing this when a child falls.
I notice also in family with a few kids , the oldest are usually more stable and matured while the younger ones tends to be more “baby” even though they have grown up to be adults. This happens cause the oldest child are more independent when they are young, having to do most things themselves . Then comes little brother or sister and the older sibling loves playing the role of the older brother and sister. The older sibling will always run to the younger ones to help in just almost everything . Maybe younger one drops a toy and instead of picking it up himself and older sibling quickly dash over to pick up for the younger one. Thus the younger child will grow up with the preconception that others will be always at their feet doing everything for them and how they should be treated and when things don’t go their way their mind becomes neurotic.
Thus like Milarepa , one needs to change one’s attitude and preconception mind.
I will use the story of Milarepa to remind myself not to have a preconception of how things should be .
Thank you once again Rinpoche for this entertaining but educational video.

    dear his eminence tsem rinpoche,
although i should work on my disertation about the genocide in mongolia in 1937 as an effect from russian communist policy i can not resist continue to do research about your aunt nirgidma, since i found her story in internet by accident. is it that i am myself half mongolian half german, growing up in both cultures or does she appear to me as a spiritual sister to my beloved grandfather, son of a mongolian nobleman, who studied in 1926 in germany as one of the first mongolian students, i am so much fascinated about her. in opposite to my grandfather who was persecuted by the communists and even arrested twice for political reasons nirgimda seamed to had a happy end. i bought her publication she made 1937 in paris with old mongolian folk songs and gave it this summer when i was in mongolia to my relative, a famous composer, who said he never heard these songs before. i cant let go the idea of writing a book about her and record the songs again for the mongolians of nowerdays. it is very hard to find information in internet. today i even read the whole correspondence between teilhard de chardin and lucile swan to find fragments about nirgidma and it was a kind of revelation. your excellency, can you help me to find her children or any other descendants to find out, if a publication is wished by the family? we mongolians had a very difficult history within the past hundred years and this princess makes us so proud to know that she existed. when the russians banned buddhist religion in mongolia and even changed the alphabet from old mongolian into russian cyrillic letters it was a cut off from the mongolian culture and their traditions.
i would also like to know if tsedn dorzhi, nirgidmas half brother who stayed in china is still alive? he must be very old now. i hope very much to hear from you, may all the love and peace be with you, yours sincerely, od

    Question asked by Maria
    Your Excellency,
Greetings of love and peace. I am embarassed with my question but I am taking the courage to do so – why is it that during my recitation and meditation practice I am greatly disturbed by a sudden noise as if someone intentionally kicks the furnitures or noise from the incense and candle burning? I can feel shadows also in the room where I do my practice. I would like to know if there is a remedy on this because I get really startled each time thus preventing me from learning full concentration. The noises start to happen when my body begins to heat up. Is this a sign of obstacle Thank you Your Eminence.

    Response by tsemtulku
Dear Maria, many experience what you experience. It’s sometimes ‘common’. Do Sindongma’s prayer and mantra for one round before starting your practice daily and the ‘shadows’ will dispel with time. I wish you luck. Tsem Rinpoche

    From His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche

Today was not a very good day for me. I was washing in the shower and the shower is very small and always had a problem due to lack of air. So I had hyperventilated and starting blacking out and hard to breathe. I had this problems for months now, but only today I almost blacked out. Lucky Pastor Seng Piow was around to help me and wipe me down and get me to a chair. Also when showering due to my weight, my back hurts and hard to wash the legs, so when I bend to wash, it is very difficult. Need a chair in the shower, but cannot fit one. Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for your help and wiping me down. Now I am better with the fan on me.

This is a special statue of Je Tsongkapa. It was made during Tsongkapa’s time by a student and offered to Him. It is said to resemble Tsongkapa very much. And this holy statue is now housed in Tashi Lunpo Monastery, Shigatse Tibet. To see, hear and contemplate Je Tsongkapa is so meaningful and collect one aeons of merits. ~ His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

I have just finished doing 50+ tweets on mind, Buddhism, spirituality, acceptance, love, entanglements, thoughts and inner battles. Do enjoy reading them and sharing them. It might help someone I humbly hope. I do so every few days to share about wisdom, kechara and our spiritual journey. If it can reach people and benefit them, why not. Our lives and being alive is totally about benefitting others. That is the purpose of breathing and being human... Tsem Rinpoche Do follow me on tweets: http://www.twitter.com/tsemtulku

I would love to live in the Mt. Shasta area of Northern California. It has been recognized by the Native American Indian people to be a spiritually charged area. It has a power vortex under the ground in that area that energizes the place to be very blessed for spiritual practice, meditation and contemplations. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear Andree Duckworth, Thank you very much for your feedback on our Kechara Pastors. They work very hard, they have great knowledge and very patient. I started the program so people who wish to bring dharma to others can have a lay life as well as a spiritual life recognized by others. Halfway to monk/nun-hood without being ordained. So naming them Pastors and having basic lay vows is good and it helps the public in Malaysia to identify with them easily. It worked out very much. I hope you will let them know you are benefitted by their hardwork. They will appreciate it very much as I do. Tsem R

I get thanks and appreciations very often from people all around the world for my blog (www.tsemrinpoche.com). Majority of the people I do not have the pleasure to know who they are. Yet they write in always. They read and leave comments on the blog also. We get now between 100,000 to 120,000 views per month now on my blog I am told and it is consistent ever month. I am AMAZED, HUMBLED AND HAPPY. I am glad so many around the world learn and benefit from my humble blog. I received two messages today. One from Penang (North Malaysia) and one from Italy thanking me for the blog and how much they learn from my blog and how much they appreciate it. It makes all the hard work worth it. Wonderful. Wonderful! Today I went out briefly from my retreat and I found a BEAUTIFUL holy Dalai Lama pendant in a store. Am not going out much these days at all. It's nice to have His Holiness close to my heart. I wore the pendant immediately. When I was a child, people had similar ones and I always wanted one. Many of the Kalmyk people would wear it. Now I have one of my own. I really like it. Tsem Rinpoche.. Myself requesting H.H. Dalai Lama to bestow on me ordination: http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=19322

A beautiful Lord Manjushri arrived and He is in standing form. Absolutely beautiful. only around 8 inches in height and very graceful. I really treasure all forms of Manjushri and He is gracing my working table where I can see him very clearly. I offer incense to Him throughout the day as I do my work. I like to have incense and offerings throughout the day as much as possible. In fact 24 hours a day.

The Girl Who Couldn't Cry - Water is Life
It's really hard to educate a generation of people born in conditions where they take things for granted. A simple slogan campaign that says, "Save water, It's precious" isn't sticky enough to make inroads. That's exactly where this video steps in: to make people realize how precious water actually is. A brilliant video that follows the heartbreaking story of a young girl that cannot cry. Sounds like fiction? Sadly, it is not.

We all want to be a part of something big and with good results. But the only way we can be a part of that is if we work hard together with the other members of our Kechara. The time will pass. It can pass with you taking on difficulties or it can pass with you doing nothing. I feel it's better to work hard now and enjoy later than to enjoy nothing now and then end up nowhere later. Prayers and dedications are ok, but hard work must be part of the prayer. ~Tsem Rinpoche From: June Tang (Khjb)

Yamantaka is an emanation of the Bodhisattva Manjushri in the form of Dorje Jigjet. Yamantaka is perhaps the archetypal form of the wrathful (dragpo) class of Tibetan deity, and his practice has always been associated with extremely agonistic ritual powers, often used explicitly to defend not simply the Buddhist Dharma, but those countries and sovereign powers that espouse it.
